Frankenstein Guitar project. Diversion #4267
wingnutthehutt replied to Z-TARD's topic in Non Tech Board
Schweeet. So can you make me a George Lynch when you're done with Franky? -
The Z600 is kinda cool, you see them for sale every once in a while. Honda had a tough time selling it here at first. They had to threaten motorcycle dealers with revoking their franchise if they didn't carry them. The ones who did sell them are LOADED now, that's for sure.

I think it's called "superior driving skills" or "hey, you drive behind me and make me look good ok?" Actually, it doesn't take much for a Z to have a better power to weight ratio than the pig of a Viper. On the subject of diffusers, Darius has one on his 240. It's too bad he's out here by me instead of out by the wind-tunnel. It'd be interesting to see what a YZ kit and diffuser can do.

Yeah, but it still wouldn't win street machine of the year or the ridler award. Trepanier's car that won the Ridler this year cost 2M.

He has two bids so far, can't be that far out of touch. With the cost of American Muscle skyrocketing, it's only a matter of time before less common Japanese cars start to become more sought after. No one grew up with pictures of a 74 Chrysler on their walls. Well, maybe somebody, but not as many as the Z cars.

Call Wilwood and ask them, their tech line is very knowledgeable and it's a free call. If you can't get ahold of them, call me at work and I'll call them for you. 916-388-0288 ext 247. -
****vote For The Best Custom Z Diecast****
wingnutthehutt replied to MOTORHEAD427's topic in Non Tech Board
So where's the build sheet on the "above the rest" car? I have been absent from HZ, so I didn't vote, but I would have voted for the winnah anyway. -

Thanks, I figured it was a no brainer but being at work, I'm in drag race mode. -
17x11's and 17x12's

For those of us who haven't the means to actually GO road racing, what does FTD FFTD and EM mean? Nice rims, good luck. Carl -
Good luck on your decision. The more I look at 1980 911s, the more of a good deal that one you have posted is looking. I know my buddy was offered 15K for his 78 at least once, and it's not as clean as that one appears to be, although it is lowered 1.5" and has wider wheels.

My friend, Mike, got his SC with a transplanted 3.2, I was under the impression that it was from an 83, but that could very well be wrong. He also had to rebuild the already rebuilt transmission becuase someone else had f-ed it up royally. We had the whole thing out so fast, using a lift, I couldn't believe it. It was almost painless. I can't see getting a ZXtt engine in or out in under two hours.
-
It took me a little while to adjust to the different driving style that they require. I at first was unimpressed with the car, and didn't understand why my friend loved it so much, but then I late braked into a car and all of a sudden the car just hooked and I was through the corner. I didn't know that they prefer to have the front end loaded up, having never driven a rear engine car before other than a few early VW Beetles. Also, he had a racing clutch in it and it was stiffer than anything I had EVER driven. Overall, I'd say "work" means adjust to a new and different car. His was/is a 78 911SC, also white. It has a 3.2L in it too.

MY vote goes to the 911. That's a really fair price for as good of shape as that car is in. Also, the Porsche isn't going to depreciate as quickly, and in fact, will most likely appreciate in the very near future. I've driven that generation and I have to say that while it made me work a little, it was overall an absolute blast. I've never driven a Z32 so I can't compare them from an incar standpoint. If you get bored with the power though, there's always the "HybridP" kit for an SBC.

Thanks for posting this story, I had small tears in the corner of my eyes reading about all the transfers taking place. I'm glad to see that their history and spirit lives on.

Splitfire Spark plugs Don't be fooled by the commercials
wingnutthehutt replied to nscason's topic in Ignition and Electrical
A word about splitfire plugs. As Tony D mentioned. They do exactly what they are designed to do. The drawback is shorter engine life. Also, Tony D had his plugs custom made to conform to a specific plug. If you look up the cross references for a Splitfire plug, you will see that there are FAR fewer different plugs than anyone else makes. My experience is limited to motorcycles, but if you look up a Splitfire, one plug may fit five to ten different NGK applications. As far as NGKs go, the more you pay, the less they foul. On a two stroke, or a very high performance engine, that's important. On a stock to moderate Z, not going to make a whole measurable lot of difference. You really don't want to spend $30 a plug do you? -
I had to read this twice before I got the general gist of what you're saying. Not to hijack the thread but... There is nothing about 25 year old cars in the CAVC. Maybe in other states, but not here in the state where we don't get tornados, hurricanes, or plagues of locusts. It WAS 30 years. Now, it's everything 76 and newer must go through a smog inspection. They must pass. To pass they must be within the guidelines for the year the model year they were made, AND (if it is a non stock engine) the make and model of the engine for it's date of manufacture. I've never heard of this bill, I'm betting no one here has. Personally, if there was such a bill, I would vote against it. I am for the rolling thirty, but nothing less. Sorry to go off on a tangent, I know this has all been rehashed a thousand times.
-
Ditto, mfg date 9/75
-
Exactly, savor the moment. One of the first things Arnold signed when he got into office was revoking the rolling 30 year no-smog law. Model year 76 and newer get smogged forever.

Yay, sanity triumphs again. That sherriff rules.

That's not the first time I've heard about someone being ticketed for the wrong thing out here. There are a lot of rookies in the LEO system right now. They're big on gusto, but short on common sense. gollum, where's your two cents at yo?

S30 Aerodynamics not really that bad?
wingnutthehutt replied to rudypoochris's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Mike, I remember that article, red 69ish Camaro right? I remember being very impressed. Father son project if I recall. I don't have the magazine but it would be cool to reread it and see what could be applied.
