  1. my 7mgte swap, so far, has cost~$3000. It should start today. It's not really a "poor-man's" alternative to anything, this motor has a **** ton of potential. If anything, I'd say the JZ is the "rich man's" alternative to most other swaps. People seem to think they poop gold when they own a 2j. Given, it's a beautiful motor, but it's not worth 2-3x more because they mentioned it in The Fast and The Furious. Well, actually it is, because people will pay it, but I'm sure as hell not going to! Sorry, I've been meaning to go on that rant for a while. MANY supra owners just flat piss me off.
  2. is that to say... I done good?
  3. jeeeesus that's a lot of issues. Before I begin, this is probably better off in the MS forum here under engine management. First: is your first problem. What's your battery voltage at? Second: what kind of fuel pump are you using, is it behind a relay like it's supposed to be, and is the fuse blown? What size fuse are you using? Third: it sounds like your firing order might be just running backwards. This problem happened to me when my firing order was right, but was going the wrong direction on the dizzy. Fourth: what happens when you try to calibrate the TPS?
  4. thats pretty cool! ive only met a handful of alecs (including the great baldwin)

its nice to find another alec into Z's!

  5. I'm looking for a way to go from the 5\16" return line on my 7mgte to the 3\16" fuel return tube in the front of my 240z. I'm aware that I'll need to upgrade the fuel lines before I push too much power, but I know that it'll hold up for now, also. Any suggestions? I was thinking like a piece of 3\16 to a 3\16 to 5\16 male-male barb adapter, but I can't find anything of that sort! TIA, Alec
  6. I'm having a hell of a time getting VEMS to fire these ignition coils. does anyone know the dwell settings required for a 7mgte coil?
  7. dash is now done, aside from bondo and the finish, and it turns out i should have used aluminuminum, since it's just two flat faces.
  8. I removed two teeth from the 24 tooth wheel on the cps, two opposing teeth. I'm telling VEMS its'a 12-1 wheel, which will be super since it's on the cam.
  9. Just wanted to throw some praise in the air, AGAIN, for Matt @ DIYAutotune.com. I bought my original msns-e kit from him about 5 years ago, and have since sold the kit\motor. He was a huge help to me then, and I'm stuck on a problem with VEMS, a product I don't even think he sells, but I thought I'd give him a call and ask him his input, and he spent about ten minutes on the phone with me troubleshooting until I figured it out. The world needs more people like this, so if you get a chance to install Megasquirt in your ride, buy it from Matt. He tunes cars, and doesn't afraid of anything.
  10. I'm missing something pretty critical. I don't have the wiring harness side of the 9 pin plug that powers the wipers on the combo switch. I can't find a plug at any of the scrap yards around here, and the couple of z shops around town want $buttload to supply me with one. Since the Painless sticky's pinout diagram is for painless harness to the plug, and I don't have the plug, I'm screwed! I have no idea which wire on the one side of the plug matches up to which wire on the other side of the plug. Can somebody make me a pinout of the 9 pin connector underneath the column? I need to know which color on one side corresponds to which color on the other side. Or better yet, if there's anyone in the Seattle area willing to let me sit in their drivers seat with a pad and a pen, I'd appreciate that too. Thanks everyone, and if you're in Seattle, gimme a call at 425-772-1481.

  12. Sorry to ask such a stupid question but... On the combo switch, are the wires on either side of that 9 pin plug the same colors? I dont have the harness side of it! Havent been able to find one at a yard either :\
  13. you'll be fine running a turbo on an NA motor. You will get more power gain per pound of boost through the turbo since the compression of the motor is higher, but you will be able to run less boost overall, again since the compression is higher.
  14. some months later, I get back to the boards... lol Both. I have all but finished a painless harness for the entire car, and about 80% done with the VEMS harness.
  15. Haven't found any quirks yet, but then, I haven't tried starting it yet! I'm still out due to a shoulder surgery back in jan. There is nothing this unit needs, there are enough extra inputs\outputs to do anything you would feasibly want to do. I can put you in touch with a good friend of mine who built my unit if you're interested.
  16. I wouldn't drop that much money on something I couldn't see run first. More importantly, though, you can't verify the mileage on the motor or tranny. Chances are everything is fine, but with the number of z parts I have laying around, I could put together a scrap tranny, scrap motor with decent enough compression to sell, and probably could find an ecu that I had to replace at one point, doll them up a bit and sell them as a rear clip. Probably just some guy selling his camaro that got rear ended though. $3500 is a little steep to begin with, depending on what he means by "accessories".
  17. .. and it will still be cheaper than buying all the speedhuts I wanted to use
  18. I bought 3 speedhut gauges for $600, my Speedo, Oil Pres, and Fuel Gauge, and the rest is all going to be read off of megatune or VEMStune via my in dash 15" lcd
  19. damn, thanks for the info dude!
  20. Im alive and well... 3 5mg tabs of oxycodone (perkacet - the tylonol) every 3 hrs 1 g of tylonol every 6 hrs 600 mg advil every 4 hours pain is almost managable, lol how did you other guys turn out?
  21. Searched a bit, but im typing with one arm through an oxy haze 15mg thick. Has anyone tried fitting a pair of these puppies up? http://www.eurosporthighperformance.com/Images/M3_For_Sale/Passenger_Vader.jpg
  22. Having my posterior labrum fixed up in my right shoulder today. Go general anesthesia, go!
  23. I am, but it won't be as pretty as the 240's original dash. The main point of this was to get the carputer in, so I can tune whenevvs
