  1. This project started with this: My 280zx turbo. Poik (turbobricks and ls1tech) and I drove from Edmonds, Washington, to Grant's Pass, Oregon, to get a Turbocharged 280zx with T Tops, because there were like two in Washington for sale, both of them being rust buckets. Note: long. f*cking. Drive. Next, I purchased a fuel rail from Pallnet (Great guy, hell of a product), along with a set of 311 ccmin NA Supra Injectors. I did not do any tuning. I simply bumped my boost up. After deciding my car was considerably slower than before I did my "upgrade", I decided to embark on a journey towards Megasquirt. A journey which would make my family question my sanity, and eventually hold me as brilliant for "Boeing-ing out" my car, rather than pimping it out. Turns out the '81 l28et is the only one of the L series motors which can not simply be modified to trigger megasquirt. Believe me. It was a bitch. It has an optical crank angle sensor, which sucks. I ended up just pulling the crank pulley off, drilling three holes in it, gluing magnets into it, and running a hall effect sensor. AMAZING how simple it was to get running. It took like six months to finally just do this simple, $60 triggering system. Here are a couple pics of the first iteration of my megasquirt harness: The men in my family are all electricians. This wiring job was shameful. So, I decided a year after installing MS (and two years after buying the car), that I'd like to buy a 240z. I like the lines better, it's lighter, has about the same space in the engine bay, and the interior is WAY cooler looking. More round instead of boxy edges. From now On I'll be referring to the 240z as the S30 and the 280zx as the S130. And here's one which fully encapsulates the condition of the interior: The dash, is frickin perfect. I saw the dash, and knew this was the car for me. I've never seen an interior in as good of shape (without restoration) as this car. I decided that was a good indicator and bought it. Shortly after, I realized that the Holley 4 Barrel carb on the L24 (inline 2.4 liter) was a piece of crap. It only ran nice about 4k+ rpm wise, and a buddy of mine who knows about things such as carbs (knows a 4 bbl up and down), could not help me tune it at all. ^setup that came with the car I bought a brand new Holley 390, as well as the 4 barrel intake from http://www.arizonazcar.com. I powdercoated the manifold black: I did not get a pic when it was all done (like having the carb installed), but you've seen what it looks like. Imagine the first pic without carbon buildup.
  2. i haven't read this whole thread, and maybe this has been said, but why the hell are you taking pictures while you're driving 130?
  3. wasn't trying to start ♥♥♥♥, just playing around. sorry otm.
  4. $1.15 on highway 99 down in newberg, oregon. for some reason, the night my best friend and i went down to pick it up, there were like three tiburons that kept f*cking with us. 115 is an estimate based on rpm, since the speedo on the 280zxt only hits 85 mph.
  5. yeah, but you're talking about cast alum vs something that spins at 100,000 rpm.
  6. Gee, olderthanme, how did you ever spot this? it's a good thing we have such a sharp eye to keep us away from these clever scammers... LOL thanks for the post, i didn't know this crap was going on.
  7. yeah i figure i'll do it as i build the rest of the ecu.
  8. I say go with zg flares. I think they look great, and if you don't, there are certainly other types of flares out there. I hate the look of tires coming out way past the car. Reminds me of those hoopty pickups you see... you know, the old datsun or toyota pickups, lowered, with 13"x7" rims, with 5" tires on them, stretched out like a skinny pregnant chick. sorry. maybe took that one a little far, but at any rate, I think you should go with flares. zgs are cheap, look great, not to mention they'd help the rubbing problem you're likely to have.
  9. ^^might as well buy a vette for 36k, lol
  10. just turn your seat around and do with some rear wheel steering. p*ssies. lol jk I remember seeing one of these setups up for sale a couple years ago, wanted like 30k for it.
  11. Thanks a ton! I think what I'll end up doing is either gnawing off a tooth off the 24 tooth wheel, or just using the two trigger setup. I literally just[/] sold a full edis-6 setup, so I don't really want to go around hunting all those parts again, plus I think if you run edis you can't run launch control or a soft rev limiter.
  12. So that is to say that they currently have the code to use the toyota trigger? What I would like to do is run the stock cam sensor, and run the stock coil packs, driven by MSII-E
  13. Clifton, how are you triggering MSII? Are you firing the stock coil packs, and did you need to solder in drivers to do it?
  14. if you're looking to put 350hp to it, don't pay attention to how well it runs, it won't be running that motor setup when you hit your goal. If you're looking to run 350 hp through the chassis, pay attention to the body. jab at the floorboards with a screw driver and see what happens. look for rust on the subframe. $500 for a "well running car" means the rest of the car is probably shot.
  15. Well thanks a lot! I hope it all works out for you!
  16. s30. preference on looks. I think it's more of a muscle-looking car
  17. I'm sure it's been done, haven't seen one myself though. Curious... Why arent you going turbo?
  18. Is it just me or does it look like his drivers side rear wheel is mounted really far forward? Really nice setup man.
  19. If the user is running firefox, it'll underline spelling mistakes in red.
  20. LOL I was going to say... "is it just me or does your engine hoist sort of jab through the airdam then start somewhere else?
  21. I use the Clutchnet 4 puck, works great, and is pretty cheap, i think it cost me like $120 Not sure how much power it will hold up to, but check them out at http://www.clutchnet.com I sue the 4 puck sprung hub.
  22. Has anyone thought of just putting together tutorials? Just breaking down and giving people what they want? Most of us do it anyways, every new project we do a lot of us take pics and put up a thread anyhow...
  23. not really... we all drive old sports cars, lol
  24. I just had a guy offer me a trade... his 1u for my 7mgte.
