  1. Subframes connectors are installed to connect the subframes, not reinforce the rocker panels. A straight line is best so run them straight back from the front to the rear.
  2. No base weld melt into the bead. As mentioned above it could be dirt, not enough heat, or moving too fast.
  3. Please do some more searching. Check the Vendor forum for a solution to the Subie diff install.
  4. I dunno, he said "open headers." Merge collector angle is very dependent on the cam. On the 310 duration cam in my old race car I ran a 26 degree merge collector. On a customer's ITS prepared 2.4L (stock cam) I built a 14 degree merge collector. Both designs provided the best overall horsepower for their particular use based on engine dyno tests.
  5. There's no such thing. The 25 spline diff used in Subarus is a R160.
  6. Or, better yet, a 2.2 first gear, 1.8 second gear, 1.4 third gear, 1.0 fourth gear, and .80 fifth gear.
  7. Exactly, its not just engine torque, its the torque at the wheels. 4.62 gears, 275 ft. lbs. in my old 2,100 lb. NA race car pushed me and my passengers back in the seat very well from 4,000 to 7,500 rpms. I think the "feeling" of torque has more to do with how immediate that feeling is then the actual push-back. Again, using my old race car as an example, accelerating from 3,000 on up felt more gradual then from 5,000 on up. At 5,000 rpm the reaction to the throttle was instant, at 3,000 rpm there was a much softer reaction until the car came on the cam at 4,200.
  8. I disagree. You can gain additional scavenging benefits and power band tuning with piping after the header collector. Its very common to gain horsepower and broaden the torque band by adding tuned megaphones and secondary merge collectors. even F1 cars with their 18,000 rpm 2.4L engine run very specifically tuned pipe lengths.
  9. A lot depends on the condition of your car to begin with. If its structurally sound, the floor pans are reasonably flat, and the car hasn't been in any big wrecks then you should be able to weld the subframe connectors in just fine after leveling the car.
  10. Take the short drive over to these guys. They probably have some on the shelf. http://www.kssmotorsports.com/index_sunbelt.htm
  11. The parts for a coil over kit are only part of the expense. You also have the labor involved and the cheapest I've heard for that is $300 with $500 as a more typical price for the cutting and welding involved.
  12. Read the sticky in the Suspension forum regarding using 280Z Tokico springs on your 240. 16 x 7 wheels are fine for your plans and they will fit easily with 215 or 225/45-16s. Keep your tire diameter at 24" or less.
  13. This is not 'Nam! There are rules!
  14. Wouldn't matter. The helium molecules are so small they slowly permeate through the tire and you lose about 15psi per day.
  15. Although I'm not positive, the '75 and '76 California cars had the bulge and Nissan transitioned to bulges in all cars sometime during the 1976 model year.
  16. Remove the doors, seats, and side panels. Temporarily weld an "X" in each door opening. Temporarily weld a bar across the car at rear of the door opening, shoulder high. Cut the roof off.
  17. WTF? He should go out any buy a lottery ticket!
  18. And then there's these guys: http://www.olympia-charger.com/2006/06/oly_express_pre.html
  19. Custom aluminum dash, fiberglass hood and hatch, poly rear window, no interior, no door glass or window mechanisms. Later, Amir added some of these parts back in to drive it on the street.
  20. The primary reason for a roll cage is safety. SCCA, in the classes listed above, limit the body attachment points to 8. Option 1 is always the best but option 2 will work if the two tubes are welded in parallel. Any deviation puts that interim mount in shear and some percentage of the load transfer gets lost.
  21. The actual purpose of the rule was to clarify the existing rule as it applies to double firewall cars. The later model Miatas have the upper part of the firewall as a double box and some folks thought they had to go through the first wall to get to the second.
  22. In the case of our S30s the holes you mention are in the firewall. Since you attach the forward braces to the firewall it would make no sense to go through the firewall. And I'm not going to play Perry Mason and go down the "which came first: the firewall or wheelwell" argument.
  23. No. The rule applies only to the classes listed and is specific to the two front braces that go forward from the door hoops to the firewall, wheel well, or front bulkhead.
  24. All sold out. I'm starting a list for the next run of 10 sets. E-mail (not a PM) your name and e-mail address if you're interested. I need about 15 people before I'll do another run.
