  1. Yup. Generally by track day 4 the newbie has: 1. A couple close calls and was able to avoid going off the track - "I can catch it if things go wrong." 2. Has passed a number of people driving much more expensive and supposedly faster cars - "I'm a skilled MF because I just passed the guy driving a GT3RSR." 3. They've posted videos of their track day exploits on YouTube - "My peeps keep telling me how fast I am and the mad skills I have as a racer." 4. Has just purchased their first set of DOT-R tires - "I should be seconds per lap faster with these skins." 5. Has just moved into the intermediate group where they can pass with just a point by - "Everyone in this group recognizes my mad skills and will quickly give me the point-bys I need."
  2. Douche' Racing. FYI... the most dangerous and scariest person on a race track is someone who has done between 3 and 7 track days.
  3. Yes. Steve posted a notice and then the funeral and reception dates. I wasn't able to make it to those events. I checked, Floyd passed away in August 2009.
  4. Unfortunately, Floyd passed away a couple months ago.
  5. First off, never measure ride height that way. Measure from the ground to the bottom surface of the rocker panels front and rear. These cars are over 30 years old and the wheel wells may have been messed up in an accident. Your car might be level and the wheel wells poorly repaired. Second, measuring droop is meaningless for any kind of comparison. Third, if any of your wheels are wobbling, you've got a tire, wheel, or suspension problem.
  6. IMHO, those are kinda normal numbers for part throttle operation at least for how I tuned the SUs on my track car.
  7. What about using a fuel injector and associated plumbing/control if you're going to spray before the turbo? That should give a fully atomized spray. Also, a lot of the local autocrossers (especially the turbo guys) are switching to E85 and getting rid of meth/water injection.
  8. Thanks guys! Sorry for the missing upper perches, I can't for the life of me figure out where they went unless another customer received 6 instead of 4.
  9. Here's some of the original research papers on water injection: http://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/nasa/casi.ntrs.nasa.gov/19930093206_1993093206.pdf http://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/nasa/casi.ntrs.nasa.gov/19930093247_1993093247.pdf http://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/nasa/casi.ntrs.nasa.gov/19930093243_1993093243.pdf In all current piston aircraft applications water injection is done after the turbo (if water injection is used at all). Most race teams run enough fuel that they don't need water injection at all and they generally avoid it as yet another failure point (Koji forgot to fill the water bottle again). The general trend is to properly design the engine and systems to not require water injection to control detonation.
  10. "The company disco dancing contest at the picnic was going well until a killer soccer ball attacked Dwayne, the Account Department's resident Michael Jackson impersonator."
  11. To remove the side shafts from the diff its better to use a sharp impact (hammer on a punch) then a hard pull. You need to "pop" them out rather then pull them out.
  12. IMHO, there might be a couple causes: 1. Road debris from the rear wheel gets thrown into the little pocket at the bottom front of the rear wheel well and rusts into the rocker panel area. 2. Water leaks into the rocker area from the screw holes on the sill, weep holes underneath, and then works its way to the back and does its damage.
  13. That sucks. Big quality control issue there. Let MSA know because their Y pipe vendor is screwing up. I'm sure you're not the only one.
  14. Look at the strut and the strut tower in the body. Think about the angles if you move everything back 2".
  15. That's for the Illumina and even then 300 is pretty high. The HP can probable cope with 225/250 for a little while but the valving will eventually fail.
  16. I went through this thread and cleaned out posts that were not pertinent to the original intent of this thread. Again, this is a reference thread for good cage design to help people with their own design decisions.
  17. My guess would be 250hp crank if the engine internals are in great shape.
  18. The car was probably in a wreck and one of the struts was replaced with a later model strut. More common then most people think.
  19. I'm takin' pictures and posting them. "Another Homer moment - Doh!"
  20. Its mentally risky for business owner to do this. In essence he is turning over control of the operations part of the company to his employees. Until a lot of trust develops (going both ways) its probably not going to happen. Its a big mental step to go from "Its MY company" to "Its OUR company."
  21. Put the transmission in neutral, take the valve cover off the engine, remove the spark plugs, and (using a big adjustable wrench or the correct size 1/2" drive socket) try turning the camshaft clockwise using the bolt on the front of the cam gear. It should take no more then about 50 ft. lbs. to get the engine to turn.
  22. WTF are sticky280zx and dhp123166 doing? You guys starting pissing match over the classifieds? Why?
  23. Porsche can only lose, even if they win. There are thousands of rebuttal videos on YouTube and Porsche did link to this video in their response: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kh3A1ERsvY4. You need to earn the right to go up against the top contenders in any sport. In boxing, to get a title fight against the champ you have to earn it through many, many bouts within the lower ranks. Ya think any of us here would be allowed to race against Michael Schumacher at any time?
  24. Mini is not faster then Porsche. No one "needs to find out" because we already know. Take your shiny bald head and stupid T-shirt to the next cutesy mini-fest and impress the Brit wannabes.
