  1. It takes around 1,000 F to blue metal and a regular organic clutch can create blue spots on a flywheel. Getting the carbon clutch to an even higher temp might vaporize the oil but it will certainly ruin the friction surface of the flywheel. Its probalby better to make sure the rear main seal is good, the front trans seal is good, and install a good, non-leaking, throwout bearing.
  2. Go tot he local track and see which cars most folks run, then buy one of those models. When you're starting out it helps to have a commonality of parts and a good experience base to draw from.
  3. Semantics. Odd firing pulses (waves) going through the exhaust doesn't hurt but it doesn't help either. I keep harping on the TransAm guys but converting to 180 degree firing in the exhaust and running a 5" or 6" single exhaust got them a 10% increase in horsepower. Yes. That's the thinking behind a 6 into 1 exhaust, except that the primary lengths on the currently available 6 into 1 L6 header are unequal. In practice that header does not have even pulses at the collector merge. Depends on where in the rpm range you want to maximize scavenging. A 6 into 2 into 1 gives two somewhat narrow places in the rpm band where scavenging can be optimized. A 6 into 1 gives one somewhat broader place in the rpm band to maximize scavenging. The 6 into 1 can give a higher horsepower number then the 6 into 2 into 1 but the latter can give a broader range of power. All of this assumes a lot of development work and optimization.
  4. A Jerico or a Quaife can handle all the power your engine will ever put out. Call these guys: http://www.taylor-race.com/
  5. Its more true with multi-disk clutches then with the facing material. An 1/4 ounce of oil covers a larger percentage of a 5.5" OD clutch surface area then a 10" OD clutch.
  6. I've got a prototype of a pan that was going into production but never did. Its a copy of the Nissan Motorsports pan (except for the windage tray). I can send you pictures if you're interested.
  7. Carbon fiber does not turn yellow and chip. Do you guys just make this stuff up? The crappy clear coat put on most bling bling fake CF parts turns yellow and chips off. And yes, carbon fiber body parts are often primed and painted - look at any of Formula 1 race cars. EDIT: Also, if a polyester resin is used to make the carbon fiber part the resin itself will yellow and crack when exposed to ultraviolet light. Polyester resin is used for fiberglass parts. Epoxy resin is used for carbon fiber parts but some cheap composite shops use polyester when they work with carbon fiber.
  8. Exactly! As I told my co-driver who was having trouble getting the car moving, "3,500 rpm and come off the clutch while squeezing on the gas! Bitch slap the thing!" And be really, really smooth with the throttle at low speed. Its easy to get the car lurching and your foot will move in sympathy with the lurch and just make things worse. And then there's the issue of trying to run the car on a chassis dyno...
  9. FYI... Taylor set me up with my clutch, the flexplate, the annular release, etc. Great folks to work with and they know Nissans.
  10. Version 2 of the prototype set is at the gear cutters today. No pics.
  11. L6 engines (like most engines) like a lot of duration if the head, induction, and exhaust systems are modified. Something over 280 is good.
  12. If you mean the quote in my sig that's from Shakespeare's Henry V, Act III.
  13. Its only heavy on my chest when I'm laying on my back. I was just doing some size comparisons and found that I'm hung like a Beluga whale.
  14. I ran the Quartermaster Pro Aluminum 5.5" dual carbon/carbon disc setup and loved it. Launching was tough but that was more a function of the 2.391 first gear in the Quaife and 25.2" tall tires then the clutch. But on a road race track having just a 1,500 rpm drop in each gear from 3rd through 5th made things real nice. I could run 65 mph in first gear at an autocross and it just made each run silly. Notice which way the course is going, which way the car is going, and which way the wheels are turned. None are the same.
  15. Naaah, the tire just hits the frame up front or the TC rod in back. Self limiting, but it makes a awful racket if you're going anything over a couple miles an hour.
  16. The only advice against a rotisserie I might have had was mounting the car with the driveline and suspension still installed. I've put three cars on rotisseries and had them media blasted. It reduced the blasting price by $250 and made a nicer job.
  17. The Dartz Prombron Monaco Red Diamond Edition also comes in a Kosher model. Its called the Dartz Prombron Monaco Red Diamond Circumcised Edition. EDIT: I'll probably have to close this thread in a while given the direction its going (blame me).
  18. I think "Corinthian" means whale penis in Spanish. Why else would Ricardo Montalban make such a big deal about the leather in a crappy Chrysler? "I know my own needs..." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIL3fbGbU2o
  19. Gives a whole new meaning to a dickhead driver: http://jalopnik.com/5380680/15m-russian-suv-features-diamonds-whale-penis-leather
  20. Cause if you hit the car from the side with blaster it can start spinning on the rotisserie so fast it will fly out of the booth?
  21. Yes but the market for those items is too small to justify the cost of the tooling. CF dash makers have come and gone. RaceOn does make a fiberglass cowl with a layer of CF on it. Doors would be tough because its hard to find an original, undamaged/repaired door.
  22. No. Arizona Z Car is still alive and well and owned and run by the same guy, David Epstein.
  23. He should be able to work it out just fine. If anything he can draw the outline on a work table and then bend to that drawing.
