Modifying the Brake Booster Reaction Disc?

Do you happen to have any pics of the setup without the booster. Did you have to fab up some type of mounting plate. Tom -
Modifying the Brake Booster Reaction Disc?
fhptom replied to 260DET's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Would a billet aluminum disk in the same dimensions as the OE rubber disk work? I have never really been a fan of brake booster setups and usually opt to connect the M/C directly to the brake pedal. But I don't think you can do that down there and still pass inspection. Hoov100, have you done this with the stock M/C or just after market ones like Wilwood or Tilton. I am not happy with not knowing which pedal feel I am going to have when I do track events. Or would this even affect the feel. I run Wilwood calipers F/R with stock m/c. Tom -
Your first post shows a June date. Did you really get all of this done in 2 months. It looks great. Hopefully no one will chime in a say that you ruined a perfectly good Japanese sports car by putting on racing stripes like they did when I did mine with stripes. Tom

Good deal and you won't have to look for rims and tires. Nice Panasports..

Steve, thanks for the offer. I found a place in CA that hopefully has the rings I need. They are supposedly on the way. Tom If they turn out to be the wrong ones I will take you up on the offer.

With all the success of Audi & Puegot in the 24hrs of LeMans I would love to take a complete Maxima diesel setup and put it in a z car and then give it to Gene Banks as a challenge to turn it into a screamer like he has done with so many other diesel motors/cars. His Banks Performance team has resources to solve a lot of the issues that seem to arise from this discussion and he always seems to take these challenges personal and does not like failure. Tom

OK< so I am starting my installation of my stroker motor and broke one of the rings while removing pistons to get them flycut. Everyplace I have tried says they cannot get just a single set of rings for 1 piston. Has anyone found a supplier that will sell rings for just one piston instead of whole motor. I am using the stock KA24 pistons out of the 240sx. Couple of machine shops I went to said its not worht all the time invested for a $6 part. Thanks, Tom

MSA and Brian both use Kameari gaskets which have to be ordered from Japan for $320.00. I will try Rebello to see if they have anything. Thanks Tom

The last thread on this subject that I found was back in 2009. I am doing my stroker motor and need a 91mm x 2mm metal head gasket. Has anyone had any luck finding any lately? Tom

Not to be the downer but most State laws require that your main headlights be white in color. If you make yours yellow accept the fact that you might get pulled over. Might not get a ticket but hope to not read a post about a cop harassing you when you know you have illegal stuff on your car. I personally would not pull anyone over for that but remember some get a little excited when they get a little power.

Thanks for everyone's response. It is what I was expecting to hear and probably what I all ready knew. My car is quietly fast and was just wondering when I get the stroker done if it was going to be more in your face fast. I have read about Marks car(thanks Myolive) and some of you other mid-eastern state track junkies and just wanted to re-vitalize my stroker build in my own mind. I am hoping to get in done during the HOT summer months and be ready for the fall track days. So off to the shop to start on yet another motor for the Z..... Tom

The drive in the truck was a reminder of what my Mustang & Camaro felt like. You see I spend at least 8 hrs a day patrolling in a dead Crown Vic so when I get in my truck with its lower gearing and exhaust tones it reminds me of some of my faster patrol cars. My 260 was dyno'd at 185 rwhp and has a R200 rear end w/4.11 gears and a Quaiffe limited slip. It was around 2300 lbs before I put my cage in so that is why it is quick around a race track. My stroker plans change daily, but I already have the bottom end(thanks to Ken Jones) complete and plan on using the N42 head I have in the car now. I am running 45mm OER triple carbs and MSD ignition. I am looking at using a ISKY cam with 530 lift and 256 duration to liven up the head a bit. Right now it has a MSA Stage III cam which is closer to 490 lift and 240ish duration. The point I was trying to get at was does an S30 with 250 to 260 rwhp(which is what I am hoping for with my stroker) give the feeling of driving a vehicle with more power due to its lighter weight. ie my Mustang or Camaro patrol cars. Since my track days are for fun and not to try to win some trophy for FTD I want it to also be exhilarating to the senses which for me is the feeling of being pushed back in the seat. So I guess I was wondering if the feeling of power can be found not exactly equivalent et times

I was out driving my Titan the other day and had to get over 2 lanes of traffic so I nailed it to get past a few other cars. The feel of pushing me back in the seat was nice. I am trying to get that feeling in my 260 track car and my next move is completing my stroker. Just wondering if anyone has replicated that feeling with a N/A L-6 motor. I know my Titan has 300+ hp but it also weighs a ton... You LS & turbo guys get that feeling easily. A N/A built car can get around the track quickly but that is helped with other mods we do to our cars. My Mustang and Camaro patrol cars gave me that feeling but again they are big V-8s. Can I get that feeling again with my L-6 without giving Rebello or someone else 5-10K? Tom

Brian, just a quick reply. The fronts are fenders and look just like the steel ones I took off. They have the opening in the front to bolt on the headlight buckets and a lip to bolt them to the inside fender wall. I wish they were the all in one fronts it would have made it easier to install.
-
The rears were a breeze to install. The fronts needed a little help but that is to be expected since regular steel fenders fit differently from car to car. Wish the headlight buckets were integrated into fender though. But very happy because this is the look I always wanted. Track day coming up next weekend at Moroso(West Palm)

Not the first one to ask that question. I originally sprayed the pieces off the car thinking it was easier not having to tape and paper the whole car. Same reason I go through 2 cheap chainsaws before I buy a Stihl. HARD HEADED....

They are Diamond Racing steel rims powder coated to match car. Kit could handle 10" front and 12" rear. Mine are 8.5" front and 10.5" rear because I already had them. Looking into spacing them out some to fill the void. Jon. I used a piece of AL angle to make a tab which attached to the body with nut serts. Also used nut serts to attach the rest of the flare to the body to make it easy to take off if need be. Mark, I got it from Roger(Z Wolf). I believe it came from the guy in TN.

Wide body finally installed and painted after 2 tries at color match. Also thanks to BJ Hines I have an Autopower full cage that he snagged from a car. Now just need to finish my stroker motor and I am set.

Sorry about not listing everything I forgot how much you guys are knowledge hungry. It has flat top pistons with block bored .04 at last rebuild 1999. I also have the MSA Stage III cam with stock valves & springs and the N42 head has been shaved quite a bit over the years and guessing comp is over10.5:1. I only run race gas 105 or higher and have a 5 speed out of a 280. I only do track days so my main concern is lap times so I don't think too much about one thing I have done to the car but every change I make.

Importance of a tires age.
fhptom replied to BRAAP's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
At the Daytona Z convention I was almost not allowed on track because my Hoosiers were considered to be too old. Luckily since it was not a race they allowed me to do my laps. But I did replace them before I did my next track session with NASA. Tom -
I have a f54 2.8L block with N42 head. Started off with dual SUs dyno showed 165 rwhp. Switched to Triple S&K 45mm carbs and jumped to 187 rwhp. Have to run high test fuel to keep detonation down. Have 3.1L stroker bottom end ready to switch to . Tom

I have one that I took out of my 260 plus 2 others I think. Yours for $30 cash. Let me know. Tom
