Looking good. Hey, I know about the "wrong parts." I have purchased more do nothing parts that look good then I care to admit, but I wish I had spent the money on stuff that would help me do the whole conversion correctly the first time. Davy

Really?!? Sorry, Terry, I couldn't resist. I nearly laughed out loud when I read that last comment, but I do know what you mean I also have shaved rails Davy

Hoowah. Maybe that's the reason why the Z guys aren't using them. Still, these are fiberglass and can be easily modifed. They are soooo sexy and agressive looking. I wish I had more time and money!! Now THAT is very interesting. Might make for one sick widebody V8 RX7. Yeah baby! Davy

I agree that it seems expensive, but after putting in $15,000 and up to make a perfect ZG clone, the $500 seems paltry in comparison. I think those are for purists, guys who like to keep the car "all Nissan." I have two sets of clear lenses, but they have rubber on the outsides. I'd love a pair with metal like these, but not for that price!!!!!!!!! Davy

Mike, we wait with baited breath... Davy

Yes, you must remove the old bumper first and then create custom brackets to hold the 240Z bumper. All it takes is a little fabrication. Do a good enough search (as stated above) and you'll find pictures of cars with the 240Z bumper that didn't come with them. Try a Google search and maybe you'll find a link to a site with a pic of all that someplace. One HybridZer has a website with the info...somewhere. Davy

Gorgeous car, David! Very nice find. I'd hang onto that and NOT modify it if at all possible. Just my $.02 BTW, putting Scarab emblems on a 350 powered Z is not the same a Type R sticker on a Honda. It's more like putting SS stickers on a 71 Camaro when it is actually an RS. Kinda like making a clone, not rice. Davy

REALLY??? Crap, they look much smaller then that, but it is a picture and I'm sure it looks a bit different in person. It's not that it looks bad mind you; as I said I was being overly critical. That car looks great! Davy

HEI (4-pin) and rpm spikes (was "Recommend an HEI coil and module")
DavyZ replied to pparaska's topic in MegaSquirt
Pete, I have an Accel HEI module I can send you for testing if you want me too; it's brand new and I ASSuME it works perfectly. For that matter, I have an Accel HEI Supercoil (new) that's mounted on top of the HEI...I can send that to you too. I'll gladly loan them out to you since my project is far from done *sigh*. Just email me or PM me. Davy -
Has any one actually tried making there own flares out of metal?
DavyZ replied to AK-Z's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Redoing what looks perfect?!?!??? Man, I wish I could have the skill to "redo" my Z! I love the lines and aggressive look of the car...kinda Mad Max like, only cleaner. Davy -
Extremely good advice here. I had the SAME problem, but mine was caused by moisture getting in through the bad weatherstripping. You must have had some kind of moisture in there. I took out the interior and cleaned it up. Then I installed new weatherstripping (my car's problem) and put on a car cover. The cover helped keep out any rain and now no more mold. You want to use a cleaner like Lysol, but be very careful on the vinyl and any plastic surface with paint on it (the white writing on the buttons will smear). I would even try alcohol in a spray bottle too. Wipe everything down. You could even have ChemDry do the seats for you. Just a thought. Also, as was mentioned earlier, use hardware store bought dessicant tubs or something like that too. Keep it dry. Davy

Warren, the custom mounted lights look great! Nice work. I was looking at the whole back end and wondering to myself "Does anything look odd?" The only thing that might need 'balance 'is the size of your exhaust tips (really). The original Datsun lamps had a division through the center which kind of broke them up, helping them to balance the look of the whole rear end. The Mustang lights look great there too, but since they are a different shape, I'm thinking that maybe the exhaust tips are a little bit weenie looking now in comparison? Not that it looks bad; I'm looking at it with an overly critical eye, no insults intended here. I want to see the car when it's finished!! Davy

Mike--that'd be very cool. At least we would have an idea of the feasibility of the project. BTW, I nominate you for trying this mod first!! Davy

Congrats to you and your son! Very cool indeed. Davy

Gosh, I'm glad they put it up there for everyone to copy I have some original Scarab literature, but it is not nearly as involved or detailed as this lot. I consider this to be a find, but it will go higher most likely and I'm not willing to put out cash for something I can copy from ebay... Great for history! What ever happened to Brian Marrow anyway????? Oooops! Back to David's original question: I would not modify the car in any way, but that is me. If this is a genuine Scarab, built by Scarab, the value is greater if you don't modify it. If it is merely a 'scarab' conversion then, by all means, modify the heck out of it. Even if you take it out and drive it once in a while, if you ever want to sell it again and put it up for sale at Barrett-Jackson, what do you think would command a higher price? That's the question I would ask. Davy

The song was #1 in Great Britain a number of months ago. Somehow I don't think it will do as well here, but I like it!! Davy

Pete, I'm glad you didn't get whiplash or worse--you're right: it's only metal and paint, but this "accident" was completely avoidable by the other driver. I feel your pain. I think you are going about getting your car repaired in the proper manner--getting Hagerty involved is a good idea and I'd love to know how this whole thing unfolds. You see, currently my car is uninsured (not driving either) and I have considered Hagerty for the 'custom' car it is after it is on the road again. Good luck with the repairs, man. Davy

This more sound advice and it should be heeded. DO NOT ever get confrontational with your postman--he is a government employee and they back him. Use the chain of command and do it the correct way, file the complaint and keep a diary of what you have been going through and what you are doing about it. Davy

Yes, that kit comes to mind and it doesn't look bad at all IMO. And I seriously doubt that anyone would mistake a 240Z with those flares for a 944, although one could expect it from the truly naiive. Glenn, that's good to know. I'm poor at the moment, but $350 or so for the flares is really not all that bad IMO. Oh yeah, I just need another $3000 or so for the Kinesis wheels You are overruled! I reject your reality and substitute my own!! I may be dreaming, but I would suspect the fit to be at the very least somewhat similar to the Z. I can hope can't I? Davy

OK, you need to speak personally to the Postmaster General and file a formal complaint. You need to do it with a level head and in a polite manner. You can tell him about the situation and then ask him to resolve the situation. Ask him what will be done and when (date) that it will be resolved. Thank him for his time. If you don't get satisfaction and find this problem reocurring, file another complaint---this will make for some serious paperwork and a file on the postman. If it does not get resolved in a reasonable amount of time by the second complaint, find out who you need to go to above the postmaster general's head---it'll help, after this second complaint, to politely ask the postmaster himself who that might be. This will take time, but I have had pretty good success with the postmaster in the past--they want to keep their jobs too. The nice thing is, you can test the situation and let the postmaster know that you be doing so because you have packages routinely sent to your home address. Being there all the time during PO hours is an excellent touch BTW. Now do the right thing. Davy

That totally rocks!! The wide angle lens makes all the difference in a picture! You'll have to get even more creative and do some 'mood' photos of your car at dusk, in tunnels, at night, etc. Cool!! Davy
