  1. How about a full fiberglass interior door panel with several speaker holes? I'm guaging interest since I have come across a fellow who is already producing them for other car(s) and the Z is the next best bet. I'm sure that the 240Z and early 260Z door panels are the same, but I have never looked at the late model 260Z. I suspect that the late 260Z and 280Z are roughly the same---anyone with a late model 260Z (big bumper) want to confirm that? Also, anyone in the SF Bay Area that has a 280Z door that I can borrow for a length of time for fabbing? I'm supplying the 240Z doors for the prototype. The advantage of the fiberglass panel is 1) cost of OEM sucks 2) the speaker holes will be in the correct places so no cutting up the metal of the door itself and 3) they look really cool whether you paint them or cover them. 2. The JTR kit will move that engine back until it is 1/2 inch or so from the firewall. It looks like you have a "Scarab" mounted V8. If you like your engine lower and further back, then the JTR kit is for you. After doing plenty of research and reading, I decided that the JTR kit just made more sense. Davy
  3. Ditto on that. I'm so glad he survived such a vicious explosion. He was divinely protected for sure. Davy
  4. That simply rocks, Mike! Way to go on......everything I guess Davy
  5. LOL!! Reality bites for those that live in fantasy, doesn't it? Davy
  6. You could post a picture of the engine bay and we could tell you. 1) I'm assuming this has a Chevy V8 small block 2) If it has an HEI distributor, as many SBCs do, if it is within 1 inch of the firewall, chances are it is a JTR conversion. With this setup, the hood latch is either removed completely or relocated, which leads to... 3) If the hood latch is all there and the disty is in front of that, you have a more traditional "Scarab" conversion. 7. Good advice from Guy---this is the absolute simplest way to do it if you don't have the opportunity to pick and choose your parts along the way. $30-$50 is paltry compared to the total cost of the swap. Just my $.02 Good luck. Davy
  8. Bob, you are a donating member so I'll be polite. Please don't post the same question in different forums. Also, you can find the answer to this question using the search function. I found a thread easily addressing this issue and answered your question in the Chevy forum. Hope it helps. Davy
  9. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=82276&highlight=differential+flange Got this by doing a search using your thread title. I'm sure there are more here if you search for them... Davy
  10. Hope & pray that he makes a full and complete recovery and then makes it safely back home to the USA eventually. My heart goes out to the guys like him and the families of the ones who don't make it back. Davy
  11. This is total steal. The car looks very nice too. Me wishes me had mo cash... Davy
  12. Good job keeping your heads, boys, and not letting this get out of hand. The RX7 is cool either way, rotary or V8. That said, I like pushrods! Davy
  13. Both. The 302 was basically a high performance engine from the 1960's Chevy used in the Trans Am cars (I think I'm correct) that had a limit of 5 liters of engine size. The 305 (slug) came later. Alf missed that and the 307 (not much better) in his list. The 383 is a 400 crank in a 350 block bored .010 over (I think I'm correct). Davy
  14. ANY purist will spit on you for 'adulterating' their brand favorite, period. I'm a Chevy guy, but I'm surely NOT a purist. I like fast whatever that may be. I happen to like old Chevys and newer Chevy powerplants, that's about it. Welcome to the forum and search a bit---yes, there are plenty of places that sell Datsun items, whatever you are looking for. Just keep reading and reading---you'll find everything you're searching for here. Davy
  15. Hahaha! Yep, WILD RICE! I like that Remember guys, that "rice" describes cars with numerous enhancements made to look fast, but are really not. Generally the louder the paint the slower the car... Just IMO. Davy
  16. I have owned a 760T, a 244, and a 242. The company 73turbo240Z just mentioned is ipd and I can assure you they make some serious suspension packages for Volvos. I installed their parts on my 242 and it just became a totally different (read: better) car from then on. Also, everything he said was spot on. I sold Volvos for years and used to know a lot about them. The 740 and 940 turbo models are the best IMO and have a little comfort level then the 240 series. Either is good, but the 7 series is a bit nicer. Parts can be a $$$ nightmare as even trim pieces and signal lights cost really big bucks. However, the money you save in buying a car that just seems to last and last offsets everything else. Plus, they are slightly overbuilt when it comes to safety and can take an extreme amount of accident abuse. "Boxy, but good." Davy
  17. Unbelievable! Very nice job on the car---in every way possible!! Does the interior match the quality of the paint and engine bay? Man, I love it. Davy
  18. Hmm, I reread my post and I did come across a bit sarcastic, not that I really meant to. Sorry, Bub. It just seems like the 240Z days are numbered. After passing through a couple of owners, the cars never seem to be the same. I guess it's just odds are that it may come down to that. I do hope you find your car and that you can buy it back. You never know. I would buy another decent one and make it into what I had, but that's just me. And yes, a Z with after market wheels and headlight covers is still "stock looking" to me. The other mods are internal and I can't see them from the street. I'm NOT 'dissing' the way your car looks, I actually like it, but it still looks stock to me. Good luck finding your car. There are often stories of people finding their old cars from their younger days and maybe this will be one of them. Good luck. Davy
  19. ROTFLMAO! Nice one, John C!!! Davy
  20. Gosh that was beautiful *sniff* and well spoken Davy
  21. You're serious? Yes, and 100 like it. Seriously, this is basically a stock looking Z car and there are quite a few in the greater Bay Area. It's just luck if you EVER see your car again. Not legally that I'm aware of----privacy laws and all that. Davy
  22. Mike, I think a V8 Porsche would be a cool thing to do. I like the 914 for the mid engine layout, but a 911 would be too cool as well. Here is another link to Rod Simpson Hybrids http://porchev.com/index.html The only thing that kept me from doing a Porsche swap was the cost; Datsuns are that much cheaper... Davy
