JacktheRiffer Posted May 1, 2012 Share Posted May 1, 2012 looking at buying a 240z with a 4bbl carb setup installed and was wondering: It does not start and the seller has narrowed the problem to be between the battery, ignition and starter...any ideas as to what could be wrong? Instead buy a clean 240Z that runs, has not had the wiring chopped up, is not a rust bucket and has not received a bunch of il-fitting parts forming a disgusting whole. You will thank yourself later. NewZed Posted May 2, 2012 Share Posted May 2, 2012 With a carb you should be able to hot-wire it from under the hood. Power to the coil positive and a screwdriver on the starter posts. At least you'll get an idea of engine quality and can decide if fixing the wiring is worth it. Make sure it's in neutral before you jump the starter. After sitting for a while it could be bad gas or some other fuel related problem. For the price I would try to check the compression. If it has good compression you should be able to get it running without to much work. Also, try starting with ether. If will run for a minute on ether you will know it has spark at least, and you will get an opportunity to listen for any major noises. How hard are these to replace? The fusible link is not hard to change. The 240Z only has 1 fusible link (from the factory). If it is bad nothing will work. No lights, no horn, won't crank, nothing. From the vague description you have given I would offer 650 and take the car before u fix his problem and raises the price or sells it out from under you to someone else.
