Chickenman
Has something changed on this site recently. Members are getting a lot of Redirects to a site called VIGLINKS. Apparently this is an advertising site for Forum affiliates and is associated with Google. Doing a copy paste to a site such as Summit racing results in the Forum redirecting to this POS advertiser. Can the Web administrators do something about this? Edited December 18, 2016 by Chickenman

NewZed
Testing - https://www.summitracing.com/ Let's see what happens... You're right. Image copied below. Trying Amazon now. https://www.amazon.com/ Amazon works fine. Summit must have a problem. How about a hybridz.org link to be sure. Do loop... http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/126603-site-redirecting-links-to-viglink/?do=findComment&comment=1183339 Edited December 19, 2016 by NewZed
Administrators SuperDan Posted December 30, 2016 Administrators Share Posted December 30, 2016 Doing a copy paste to a site such as Summit racing results in the Forum redirecting to this POS advertiser. Can the Web administrators do something about this? Yeah, it's not supposed to do that. I found a setting that should not have been on and turned it off. Might take a little while to take effect. Doesn't the revenue from those ads help pay for the hosting? True. I actually have Adblock disabled for Hybridz and several other sites that I use for free and enjoy. Figure it's the least I can do... Thank you. Even if you don't click on the links it still helps. It's the number of impressions per day that matters. Since people have started using ad block our number of impressions has fallen over 50% and revenue per click is down to about %20 of what it was years ago. This has been an issue for EVERY website owner with google ads. Just an FYI, I will be upgrading the forum software early next year and it will require that you turn off adblock to access it. Derek
Can you make it so that donating members can continue to use ad block? I've been using it forever and I turned it on after I read your post as a courtesy. The first thing I got was a banner showing stuff I was looking at earlier in the day on amazon. This is why I use an ad blocker. Now it still may be tracking me behind my back but it's really troubling to actually see it in a banner on a site that is totally unaffiliated with amazon. Thanks Derek Edited January 2, 2017 by Derek
NewZed
Yeah, it's not supposed to do that. I found a setting that should not have been on and turned it off. Might take a little while to take effect. Clicking the Summit link still takes you to vigilink. If you go up to my post #3 and "copy link address" using a right-click, this is what you get when you paste it. So the vigilink redirect seems to be embedded in hybridz.org, disguised as summit.com. Must happen when it's pasted from outside. http://redirect.viglink.com/?format=go&jsonp=vglnk_148339678546515&key=f7179343930a8f28263c3ebbccb8a0a8&libId=ixgo325d0100guav000DA9f0ypd7v&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fforums.hybridz.org%2Ftopic%2F126603-site-redirecting-links-to-viglink%2F%23entry1184016&v=1&out=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.summitracing.com%2F&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fforums.hybridz.org%2Findex.php%3Fapp%3Dcore%26module%3Dsearch%26do%3Dactive%26search_app%3Dforums&title=Site%20redirecting%20links%20to%20VIGLINK%20-%20Site%20Support%20-%20HybridZ&txt=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.summitracing.com%2F Here's the summit link pasted from outside, again. https://www.summitracing.com/ Edit - just tried the newly pasted from outside Summit link and it still redirects. You've got some weird malware changing the content of the link as its pasted. Edited January 2, 2017 by NewZed
Zetsaz
Same thing still happening to me for summit racing
NewZed
Experiment - I'll type in the link address and see if it still gets changed by vigilink. www.summitracing.com Edit - it still changes to vigilink. So it's not a Paste thing. Must happen in between. That's the extent of my internet knowledge. Good luck SuperDan. bramagedained
Yeah, it's not supposed to do that. I found a setting that should not have been on and turned it off. This has been an issue for EVERY website owner with google ads. Just an FYI, I will be upgrading the forum software early next year and it will require that you turn off adblock to access it. The issue is that as a whole, 3rd party ads have proven to be untrustworthy, serve malware, hijack links, etc. So the safe option is to block everything, everywhere. This issue is just another example.

ryant67
Not sure what kind of ads you guys are getting on this site, but mine are generally tasteful and never offensive or malware... Right now as I type this I have an ad for Jaguar cars at the top, and another for TD Bank at the bottom. That said, if paid membership would allow folks to go ad free, I am sure many would be glad to go that route.

Derek
I wasn't concerned with adds. What got my attention was items from a shopping list that I had at amazon appearing in a banner. That's fairly intrusive in my book.
ryant67
Ah, stuff like that freaks me out a little. Browsing Amazon on my desktop computer then seeing ads for those items on Facebook on my phone. Guessing the ad vendors know who we are and what devices we use.
Chickenman
VigLink is back. Just tried posting a link to Tire Rack for a member asking about DOT Tires and got re-directed by VigLink. Here is the link to Tire Rack that I tried: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Toyo&tireModel=Proxes+R1R&sidewall=Blackwall&partnum=44WR7PR1RV2&tab=Sizes
