Guest 280ZForce
*NOTE* Don't forget to also check out the 2 other links on the bottom of this post. I know this should probably go in Member’s Projects, but I know many of you have told me to post the end results of the build and I know some of you would want to be able to respond to it. So, after the tear down, which I believe most of you read about back in Mid-Feb ‘07 (Tear Down Thread...Click Here). I immediately took the head, block and all the internals, etc to a machine shop johnc recommended me to, called JMS Race Engine out in El Monte, CA. Which is a good 45 miles from my house. But I figured it'd be worth it. So I got the news from the shop that the engine block was in really bad shape, didn't need just a resurface on the top, but it was also way outta roundness 0.038 thousandths and wondered how it is was still holding together so well. They said it had seen a lot of heat and would need a bigger bore, which would mean new pistons, which would mean more $$$. The whole rotating assembly was inspected and mic'd, etc and all turned out to be in excellent shape surprisingly. So I decided to stick w/ the pistons I had since they are 87mm Ross Forged Pistons. My friend John (73GreenMachine) gave me another block I could use and I had that bored out to fit my pistons. Then I had the rods magnafluxed, deburred, polished, shoot-peened, and lightened for added protection. The head I found out was not a full port and polish w/ angle valve job as mentioned in my last thread, but they confirmed it...it was an amateur port job, it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t thorough enough and not as big as I wanted. So I had the head ported and a 5-angle valve job, as well as all new performance valve train and a new cam (Isky Cam - Z-Gad Grind). The long block is completed now and back at my house ready to go, I still have some other things I'm finishing fabbing up and making other things fit as well. Should be w/in the next couple weeks and it should be back on the road as a new beast! Big thanks to johnc for the recommendation, also thanks to Aussie Dave (thehelix112), Jorge (Yorgee), & John (73GreenMachine) for all your hard work and effort in helping me make dreams come closer to a reality with this project and helping out when you could/can. johnc
Sounds like its going to be a killer engine. Glad it worked out with JMS. I was curious why they moved to El Monte so I called and got the story. Seems like Monrovia wanted their property for redevelopment so they bought JMS out and moved them. That's the second time old man Johnson has made a bunch of money from the city. Thanks guys, and nice engine bay zforce, keep up the good work. this thread isn't about the intake this 1 is about the whole build. The manifold I was lucky enough to get ahold of off a member on here who decided to go w/ a different engine. As far as I know these manifolds were only available in Japan years ago and have been NLA for quite some time over there, and the way I hear it, there is only a handful in the states and who knows how many still are usuable. Thanks for the compliments.
nbesheer
I'm curious as to how much it would cost to get the one you had reproduced, I'm sure you could find buyers for it. Anyways did you get your header and intake to fit yet ?

240Z Turbo
Such a nice setup and you skimp on the oil filter. Use the WIX brand or the NAPA Gold. You can also use the K&N, but it is just more expensive. FRAM blows!
