gjc5500
I was wondering if someone sells a gearbox that would bolt into the bellhousing for the l24. If not, is there one that could be made to fit the back of the block and have a custom driveshaft made?
Nismo280zEd
I was thinking about this today... a company called MVP makes a bellhousing adapter for the KA24de motor to use the 6spd SR transmission. Which means it should bolt up to the L24/L28 the same way. But finding a 6spd SR tranny isn't exactly easy either.
gjc5500
So sr trannies will bolt up to a L6? i had actualy thot about a custom bellhousing and put a benz 7speed but way too much money for it
e_racer1999
with that MVP bellhousing i'm assuming
Sparks280zt
No offense but I think a l24 in a 6th gear would be lugging the crap out of it. You can have a real low turning 5th gear by getting the right 5spd and rear end. But alas, a six speed has been put on an L28. 510six has a t56 behind his L. 510six
The transmission of choice was entirely based on the amount of HP it could handle. The T56 could handle the shock loads I was planning on putting through it.
johnc
Taylor Race Engineering has put Quaife, Jerico, T56, and other gearboxes behind the L6. http://www.taylor-race.com
Matt K
The S15 6-speed (SR) isn't what you think it is...it's actually weaker than the 5 speed it replaced & the 6th gear is the same ratio as 5th in the older 5-speeds, very close to the ZX 5th gear, so not worth it really, other than having the close ratio nature of the 6-speed. You'll just be shifting more with it...
gjc5500
I want that really tight gear ration. shifting alot really dosnt bother me. I drove my friends evo9 MR around and its kinda fun going thru 6 gears.
gjc5500
So what would be the swap possibilities if i changed to a custom driveline?
Mr.INSANE
It would be much cheaper to switch your rear end put in a higher/lower ratio depending on what you want. and tag in a 5 Speed BW. But Hey its your car do what you want :
JMortensen
So what would be the swap possibilities if i changed to a custom driveline? Yes you can put a 6 speed in your Z if you have the bellhousing and driveshaft work done. If you go custom you can have pretty much any 6 speed you want. John Coffey even recommended a shop that has adapted different transmissions. If you have another question ask it, but I think we're starting to cover the same ground again here. I'm with the others who don't see the point, but if that's what you want to spend your money on, go for it.
gjc5500
Im looking to do it because i want to use the car at the track, but at the same time, use it on the street and get decent milage. i want short gears for good acceleration, but tall 6th gear so i have good top end and ability to cruise at freeway speeds w/o being above 3k. JMortensen
Is there a question in there?
gjc5500
No, i was making a statement for why i want a 6speed. is what i put in my other post correct? because with my 4speed, im at almost3k when crusing at like 60~
e_racer1999
honestly, the gains on either side are not that great. if you are going it for cruising/fuel economy, then you are going to spend WAY more on the tranny swap than you will save if you switch out the tranny. if you go with a decent 5 speed you will get a better result, since if you autoX you won't waste time shifting. Shift
I need to mention this. The SR 6speed doesn't have the speedo sensor on the tranny (s15) its located on the diff. so If you are planning to go that route. I suggest getting the diff also. I believe most that came in the s15 are lsd'd.
naviathan
Personally I'd hit up the R200 3.54 diff and run a standard 5 speed until you can afford to upgrade to the T56.
Lunar240z
s15 tranny ratios taken from the fsm 1 3.626 2 2.200 3 1.541 4 1.213 5 1.0 6 .767 I have one. [car doesn't run yet] I like shifting.
