bucket240z
I own a 1972 240z and there is this button at the very top of the gas pedal that is only pushed at WOT or near it and i was wondering what it does. I've searched and come up with nothing. Any experience with this button and its purpose? Thanks in advance
badjuju
is it an auto? possibly a drop cable to let the tranny know to downshift? My 81 280zx turbo was an auto, and it would click something at the WOT.
naviathan
Does it look stock? I've never heard of said button. Any pics?

naviathan
Looks as though it's been there a while. I doubt it's an N2O switch. Have you traced the wires to see where they go? Kind of reminds me of those stupid eBay electric turbos.
strotter
I can confirm that the switch and pad on the throttle is not present on my manual '72. This does, however, look like the "kickdown" switch on my ex '74 automatic. I think you're not the first one to make some improvements to that Z! cygnusx1
Was the car ever equipped with A/C. Some cars shut down the compressor at full throttle.
Administrators RTz Posted December 22, 2007 Administrators Share Posted December 22, 2007 Looks like automatic kickdown. It also looks like your Lokar throttle cable is waiting for an opportunity to fail. That kink where it passes through the firewall will eventually break. stony
no my car isnt auto but who knows it could have been. not sure how to post a pic but here it goes: Ok this is weird... i know what it is now but at first glance i see a birdseye view of a dark hair dark skin kid with a white shirt on standing in the grass. Left side of the pic about 2 inches up.... see it???? or is it just me????

gregkring
Another vote for WOT switch for an auto car. Looks liek your car has been converted to a stick. Future location for the NOS switch. Also like Ron said, remove your pedal and bend that rod over an inch in a vise so the cable lines up correctly. oldskoolZ
Ever heard if those things parents put on their kids cars that record how often they floor it? looks like the PO parents were just pretty creative, and didnt want to spend the extra bucks to buy a normal one, lol
zgeezer
Looks like automatic kickdown. It also looks like your Lokar throttle cable is waiting for an opportunity to fail. That kink where it passes through the firewall will eventually break. My '71 had an automatic and has the same square tab on the throttle rod and a very similar mount on the inside firewall. No switch. I'm sure it is a kick down switch. g g

Dragonfly
It is deffinately the kickdown switch for a former auto, I have owned about 4 automatic Z's and everyone of them had that, none of my manual Z's have had it. I recreated something similar to that in my current manual Z for mounting a WOT switch. Dragonfly
