Gareth
On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at through the heart of Paris. No streets were closed; Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit. The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly 140 MPH in some stretches. Upon showing the film in public for the first time, Lelouch was arrested. He has never revealed the identity of the driver. http://youtube.com/watch?v=7RH7Ca4gUp4 I am pretty sure this video was proven to be a fake, or rather that it wasn't actually a ferrari, and the speeds weren't that high. The video was sped up. Something about the shifts not matching actual speeds, and a couple other things. I believe the british show fifth gear did a special on it. The fact is, that the movie was filmed from a camera mounted on a bumper of Lelouch's Mercedes. The film was sped up - you can hear that when listening to gear changes. Plus, the camera car was way too softly sprung to be a Ferrari 275GTB. At times, the film just doesn't FEEL fast. Although I really liked his other movies, this one was proven to be faked, so there's no point in arguing about it. By the way, the film was made in 1976, not '78. Here's a proof:

Juarez88
sorry to bump this thread but this video is pretty entertaining if you haven't seen it. Miata vs Lotus Elise. R.I.P Lotus
TrumpetRhapsody
Ouch, he just started getting reckless there at the end. Must've felt pressed by the MX5 keeping up with him in his mirrors and got cocky. Tisk tisk.
bschiltz
Yeah, he started getting loose in a couple corners before he lost it. You think that'd be a sign not to push it too much more?
johnc
The guy in the Elise was a wreck waiting to happen. Early apex every corner, miss the corner apex every time, jerk the car around with the steering wheel, and then finally lifting off the gas in the corner - tank slapper, BOOM! DavyZ
http://www.leechvideo.com/video/view2199127.html 911 "getaway" from police in Stockholm, Sweden. The police don't look like the genuine ones, but the video is great aside from the rap song in the beginning. Davy

jerryb
That cant be real...a delivery truck passed the Porche at the beginning and those cops are jumping around like B movie actors. Too corny....and I hated that song! http://www.leechvideo.com/video/view2199127.html 911 "getaway" from police in Stockholm, Sweden. TrumpetRhapsody
It seems like it's sped up, and then sound matched. There's not enough wind noise at the speeds he's supposedly going. Police were totally fake too IMO.

Early apex every corner, miss the corner apex every time, jerk the car around with the steering wheel, and then finally lifting off the gas in the corner - tank slapper, BOOM! John, I need some driver training to help me with these exact problems. For whatever reason I often hit my corner apex's too early. I am getting better at not unsettling the car. Care to come out to Oregon to give me a few pointers? I'm going to try and go to the June HPDE to improve my skills. http://www.cascadesportscarclub.org/training.asp?page=home
