One thing to mention about the post for the adjustment on the latch mechanism is, on our Z's, it is located on the door jam side, not the door. Same principal though. What ever you do , don't over tighten the screws in the latch mechanism, either in the door or the jam.

Help!! what did I do wrong here?? car wash blues...
spotfitz replied to a topic in Body Kits & Paint
My X-girlfriend loved cloth diapers for here eclipse turbo and I must admit, the one time I let here wax my truck it came out swirl free. I've see several wax jobs that had the swirl to them, but my black truck didn't have a single one when she was done! She washed her car with them aswell. Just make sure you run them through the clothes washer after every use. -
I will be among the many here in the not so distant future. Once my Z gets back from paint jail, even though the suspension is done, it will be up on jack stands for about 3 years, so I can afford all the work being done to it. I do have pics of it on stands(if required) and come January, I'll have more! I've had it for 7 years and I've done more in the last 3 years(now owning a garage w/ a home, in that order)then any time I've owned it. Can I be what ever number is available now. I would like to shrink the JSR image so I don't have to shrink what ever image I have of my Z at the time. Will this be ok?

Terry, This is a very good idea as a use for the lazer pointer, but wouldn't it have been just as easy to put the sharpy on your adjustable swing arm? I know that takes all the fun out of it and finding new ways to do it is almost asmuch fun as actually doing it, but I'm curious.

The fun has just begun (the long process of fixing up a car)

Did you say sun visors, combo switch and 6AL? Contact me And for a cheap replacement for door weatherstriping, try mitsu. impulse or haundai excel(how ever you spell it). Around '88. Cut to fit. -
31 here. Only 2 years older then my Z and It's now finally getting in better shape then me. I once had a Monte Carlo in highschool that was made the same month and year I was born. I kept thinking I would die in that car. I almost did, but likely it was only an S-10 I T-boned doing 60.

With all that plastic surgery you would think his nose would be straight. Maybe he wanted it that way. He still reminds me of the women chimp in the latest "escape from the planet of the apes" movie.

Great Drifting Video....with a European Flavor
spotfitz replied to slownrusty's topic in Non Tech Board
Reminds me of my very first track event inwhich it had rained the night before and was still raining the day our club went. I had almost bald dry pavement tires on(for lack of replacements) and it was very easy to get in a 2 wheel slide, front or rear, aswell as 4 wheel drifts. Very fun day even though I don't think I got over 50mph, even in the straights. I got to see acouple 350Z, Z32's go off track along with some near misses. The amazing thing was this 280ZX(owned by a friend of mine) riding my bumper the whole time I was sliding around. He kept pushing me and pushing me. I kept trying to let him by. Towards the end he finally passed me. I only then felt comfortable about sliding around the corners. I'm looking forward to doing it again, especially in wet weather. Yes, drifting may be a craze, but damn it's fun! -
Thats the exact type of left rear replacement quarter I have for sale.

The one that Phyte posted is positioned right on the bracket. The tensioner pulley ends up just infront of the distributor and the bracket bolts to the same holes that the engine "hook" bolts to(just behind and below the mech. fuel pump) and if memory is correct it also bolts to the front of the head. I have actually seen 3 different types. I'll take pics of the other (2) I have that go on the passenger side tomorrow. I would highly suggest that Phyte get a compressor and bracket from a 280ZX. The '81 will have the holes/mount for the CAS(the shiny one I posted), but once bolted up it isn't that visible. I have a early '74 which had factory a/c and the compressor was on the drivers side with a bracket identical to the one I posted(black one) that I'm pretty sure came off a '78.
-
It looks like you have the dealer install bracket for the early Z's, as DCZ mentioned. I now have (2) that go on the drivers side and (2) that goes on the passenger side, like what you have. I didn't include the passenger side type. Sorry for the poor pics ,but what do you expect in 5 minutes without a digital. This one is off a '78 if I remember correctly, it is Very heavy: http://hybridz.org/phpBB2/album_pic.php?pic_id=2286 This one is from an '81 and is alot lighter, made of cast aluminum: http://hybridz.org/phpBB2/album_pic.php?pic_id=2287 I am willing to part with the heavy one, but I can get another light one without to much trouble. Either one will need the adjuster pulley.

I've seen worse pushed out and reworked, but if you need a drivers side replacement I have a new one from the body line down, still in the box. PM me if interested.

I put all the bolts back through the hole of the part it was holding on and then taped it in place. Labeling everything as I went. Connections in the harness, what part went where and if a part bolted to a part that was also being removed I would bolt them back together after removal. I have almost the whole garage for the parts so I stacked everything in sections as they came off. I didn't do the suspension(since I had already replaced everything), but the only thing left in my Z was the dash, the inside seat belt holder and the emergency brake handle(which will all be coming out once it comes back from paint jail). I'll let you know how my system worked in about a month. Like datsunlover, once I pull something apart, I can put it back together and seldom ever end up with extra parts.

I do love the stance of ZR8ED's Z. Definitely inspiring. That is actually the look I'll be going for on my '77! Now that he wants to live in our world I'll help him join mine since him and I haven't talked to each other in awhile. My '74 is now in paint jail(as noted by my sig pic) getting a great work over by a very good body man and then it will be sprayed with artic white and then a clear coat containing gun metal metallic. During this time I'm in the process of cleaning ALL the stainless steel from the Z in preperation of gun metal powder coat. Just as I get the Z back, the rims will get the same prep work in the center. I have plans for the hood vents, rear light surround and fiberglass bumpers to be painted the same gun metal metallic. As I get everything back I will start putting all the finished parts back together. The motor that was in it will go back in for now. This will get it back to driver/weekend status. I already have the rebuilt turbo block and p90 head, which needs a rebuild(I already have the parts for this). The '75 intake is being prep'd and DFI is on my list of credit debt. I've had the plan for some time it's just the funds to get me there. Remodeling my house has slowed it down some, but I see turbo by spring time hopefully! With help from all my friends in the area and from this board I WILL make this a show AND go package. to you ZR8ED for raising the bar to all of us.

Hell, I've been here since almost the start of this forum and I don't post that much. I'm what you might call "between stages"(for some time now). I'm in paint jail right now and I'm between pay checks. You can't get much done when your waiting to spend your next check like it was the lotto! My '74 was the color it is going to be, minus clear coat, this week. Then almost all of that paint came off during the "need more body work" stage. I'm hating this process! I do enjoy posting when I actually have something to contribute. For instance. For anyone on this forum. SPEND for the body work! You can get a $100 paint job with $3k worth of body work and have a really nice car, but spend $100 on the body work and it doesn't matter if you spend you'll life savings on the paint, it will still look like a $100 paint job. Body work IS EVERYTHING! Ok, thats my contribution this month.

As long as we stay with the 280 ZX. '70-'83 tranny are bolt in affairs. The only difference comes with the turbos/2+2's, which have a bigger flywheel/clutch. Either flywheel/clutch will work with either tranny.
-
I know I struggled with mating the tranny back up with the motor for about 4 hours one weekend. I refuse to mate them while one is still in the car now. I eventually got it, but after several choice words. The hardest part is being able to slide the tranny straight at the back of the motor. It needs to be perfectly lined up. I found that some angles would actually move the disc out of position, keeping the trans shaft from inserting the pilot bearing. Keep at it, it will go. Good luck.

Brake lines for rear ZX disk swap?
spotfitz replied to rags's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I ended up taking a bolt and drilling a hole through the center and then cut the head off. After some grinding everything went together without a leak. I'm sure there are easier ways to do it, but this worked for me. -
Coil over threaded sleeve question?
spotfitz replied to PETEW's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I have basically the same setup as Tim has described, on my '74. I welded a 1/2" "rest" on top of the original pirch weld for the sleeve to rest on and I have about the same gap between tire and fender as mentioned. New perch is sitting down about 3/4 down on the sleeve and I want it lower, by atleast an 1". I wish I would have welded mine about 1 1/2" to 2" lower then what it is now. Depending on your sleeve size(if 5") I would lower it atleast 1 1/2" below the original spring pirch weld. This should put the new spring pirch about half way down the sleeve(compared to 3/4 down). Once you have put the weight down on the suspension the car will not drop but about 1/2" once resting on the spring, with the spring weights of 200# front, 250# rear. I have pics somewhere, for comparison. I'll try to dig them up. With the suspension set up like it is now, if I jack the Z up(with suspension unloaded) I can turn and wiggle the springs. You loose alot of travel with it this low, but I want it lower. -
Phantom, Ok, excuses already. When are you going to put some real tires behind that beast, even if it is a street car. I hope I don't make you wish you had some DR's in my 17 sec blaZer BTW, I do want to run you in my blazer. If anything, just to make you look good. All joking aside, I'm sure you break the 12's if you can keep your foot out of the hole shot. A good launch and it should be in the bag from what I've seen/felt. PS, don't forget to double clutch Did I mention that I am getting rid of my blazer, so it doesn't matter what I do to it aslong as it makes it home. Oh yeah, rent-a-car baby!
-
Are you picking on the Vipers because everyone else is slow now? We really need to get Zack to the track and see what he can do. Sorry I missed the car show, but it's safe to say you need sunglasses to walk in my garage now, especially at night. This should really come in handy when I get my baby back from paint jail and start reassembling her. I just hope my neighbors don't start thinking I'm growing drugs in my garage. 8)

£8726, I am definitely going to hell!

The headers are the 180* as mentioned by Kid-Vid. After looking around I found a site which illustrates a restoration on one. Not something you can take likely and get away with it.

Looks like a detomaso pantera or is it a gt40? Can't really tell by the closeup, but my guess is the gt40 like this

I didn't get a chance to post anything on the other "subject" until tonight, but also wanted to hear something from the writer. I have always read any of DAW's post that I have come across, be it, on Zcar or here(about basically anything worth his input) and knew he had what he classified as a "black sense of humor" and sometimes didn't know how to take him, but always waited for his next post. It usually worked out to be someone taking the statements in the usual response, since there isn't much of a way to express emotions/expressions on the other world we like to call the internet. I for one don't post that often, but would be more then willing to take a newbee test for the honor of posting statements or questions on our little part of this world. I'd also be willing to bet that with the experience that I have from working on my Z for only 7 years and the knowledge gained from people on this site and others that I would have honorary marks after my first attempt of said "test". I know this subject of a test has been stated on another post in the past. My question is; is there a way to have someone meet certain criteria before having the ability to post? Say, you have to view so many posts and actually use the search function before you can post a question yourself. This ofcourse only being possible after you have answered certain questions in a test format. I know there are ways to keep track of posts and I'm sure there are ways to keep track of how long/how much a person is on this forum, but I'm not sure about keeping track of other aspects of someones forum time. I know I actually don't want to know how much time I spend on this forum, so it would be a good idea to keep this info private. BTW, if there was ever a statement about how much I think about what I am posting, when I do post, I would think that stating it took me atleast 20 minutes to write this out should be an example! OOps, ofcourse even proof reading does nothing without using the preview button, as indicated by my edit. Damn, I have to be up in 5 hours for work!
