  1. Very thought out response and worth the read for anyone considering any swap. I have just two words to add. I'm screwed
  2. As someone else has mentioned, there were some additional choices for this poll that I feel are required. "Once used and doesn't support legalization." I would have prefered to have this as an option over my other 2 choices, being I've smoked before. I for one can go along with alot of what is being said concerning this topic, including the rediculous notion that it would generate revenue for the gov. As for it being a passive drug, I literally don't remember 3 1/2 years of my life, straight out of highschool. Thats a good example of being passive, considering during that 3 1/2 years I didn't do anything with my life except smoke pot or look to score more pot. On to the subject of it being a window drug. Yes and no. Do to the fact that most places you can get pot can also get you about anything else you want, the availability is there, it bowls down to the person. I ended up trying many other drugs that I don't think I would have ever tried if the availability wasn't there. Looking back on what experience I have of the subject, I don't see me ever doing any of the drugs again, that I once tried. Not one of them contributes to life, except diluting reality. Not one of them can be beneficial health wise. And not one of them can help you make proper decisions while under their influence. And due to short memory loss, I may have replied to this post before and have forgotten I can totally relate to something in the article presented. Anxiety can be directly related to being paranoid. I quit smoking pot mainly do to a heart pulpatation(sp?) that I started encountering while being high, which led to anxiety of my health. Whether it was being paranoid that caused it to start, I don't know. It could be I had heart problems before. It seemed like a good idea at the time to eliminate pot out of the equation. I haven't had a problem with it since. For someone alittle more "laid back" then myself this may not be a problem. This again brings up everyone acts and reacts differently to given situations. Everyone has their own "drug" of choice. For some it's pot. Others it's work. And some may consider our Zcar's a drug. Unfortunately, some of the legal drugs can be more destructive then most illegal ones. It all comes down to the individuals responsiblity for their own actions. Whether pot should be legalized will always come down to if it can be made profitable. And being how easy it is to grow, I don't see that happening.
  3. It is the number you are given when you sign up to start using the ICQ program on the internet. ICQ is basically another type of messenger program that is freeware. This program isn't related to this site, just the general public uses it.
  4. You have that exactly right. After putting in the recommended 2.75 pints I've been trying to figure out how much comes out the vent, each time I drive it. I guess the rear bushings will be well lubed for some unknown date in the future. I guess I should have figured on the extra mass of the phantom grip in determining the actual amount of lube, but I didn't think it would be that much of a difference.
  5. Not that it makes the situation any better, but I hope the inmates do the same to him over and over again!
  6. When I got my painless kit I couldn't get it to turn the fan on for the life of me. I finally found out the thermo switch was bad. I got mine from perma-cool(I think). After a meeting with the speedshop in my area I got ahold of Summit, which supplied the speedshop with the same kit. Summit sent me out another thermo switch free of charge even though I didn't by it from them. Everything worked perfect after that. My $.02
  7. Let me restate what I said. With very little suspension travel you risk bending control arms, ovaling pivot points and blowing strut inserts. By sectioning your strut tubes you can get this travel back and lower your Z at the same time. If your to low though, then other things need to be addressed. Search for caster camber plates.
  8. If your going to do the coilovers, section your struts to fit the mentioned 1985-92 Golf/Jetta strut inserts for the front. You will not have much suspension travel after you get the car at a decent stance with the coilovers as the tubes will be to long right now. Do the same with the rear, but using the front 280 strut inserts, on the rear. This will again, get you the additional suspension travel needed on a lowered Z. I wish I had sectioned my struts while putting in coilovers. I like the ride, but I can't get it low enough without making the ride harsh.
  9. I put one in when I had everything torn apart for coilovers. As I've heard from others, mine didn't fit properly, which is the one for the 240sx if I remember correctly. Over all I only notice it when loosing traction. I haven't gotten the alignment done yet, so I don't know if the understeer I now have is do to the phantom grip or alignment. I installed the bump steer spacers at the same time and it could be those aswell. Once I get it aligned I'll have more info on it for you. I'm sure more will chime in.
  10. In reference to your last choice. I was told by someone in our club that heating up the head to 400* and then bolting it onto a good flat block will fix the warping. I have yet to try it, but I plan to with a warped head I had planned to rebuild. I will be posting my results in the next week or so.
  11. Thats funny. Here in Texas, or atleast in the D/FW area, I have yet to have a test drive. Even at Courtesy. They said, "no test drive except for buyers". What a crock! I atleast want to drive the damn thing fefore I drop 30 large for one!
  12. Get your parents to take you to a scrap yard and pick up a junk motor/tranny to tear apart. Explain to the guy at the yard what your doing and you should be able to pick one up for next to nothing. I know I only got about $15 for an old motor/tranny and acouple suspension parts. Good luck with the place to pull these things apart.
  13. When I first did the headlight relays I had mine hooked up this way, only because I didn't have enough relays and thats how I had to drive around for acouple of days, even during the day do to switch problems. I had to adjust them down some, but it was alot brighter. I had considered leaving the brights that way after installing the other relay, but thought it may over heat the headlight housing or shorten the bulbs life, as previously stated.
  14. Does this mean I'll finally get to see your ZXT Sumo? Hope your bringing it.
  15. There are times when this can be a good thing. I've been watching for some SS windshield wipers on ebay. Not the arms, just the wipers. I found some. 1 bidder at $9 or so. I bid max $15 and watched it. Got up the next day with 1 hr 20 minutes left. Still in the winners circle. Went to work and checked it with about 2 minutes left, still the winner. Got home that evening and I had lost it by $.50. Good thing. Just today I picked up both complete SS arms and wipers, and a rear arm/wiper setup for an '82 to go on my '74 for, you guessed. $15
  16. Tim, I hate to say it, but you are probably right on your statement. Recently, I have heard some bad things about them and some of it was from acouple years ago. I'm sure they CAN do good work though. Sometimes you think you can cut corners and not have it turn you around, but thats the price of speed. On a lighter note, did you know we have formed a Zclub in Ft.Worth? Next meeting is on 11/14. Email me if you want some details.
  17. Within the last couple weeks there was an auction on ebay for an SU intake setup for nitrous. I had seen it come up several times. Here is the link, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1866640046&ssPageName=ADME:B:DS:US:3 Since this last auction I linked to, it hasn't come back up. You may be able to email him and ask how much he'll take for it. Hope it helps.
  18. 720mph, or about that. Discovery Channel, speed without limits just had an acticle about it. It happened when they were testing for going into outer space. A guy went up in a balloon and at some point just before outer space he jumped out a did a free fall for about 4 minutes until he opend his parachute. Or was it the guys doing 150 down the slopes? I love that channel. PS, did I win something if I got it right?
  19. I've actually cut through a 1 1/8" crankshaft with one before. It took about 6 cutting wheels. The hardest part was keeping the cut on the same plan as the disc. Once you start to get in a bind, kiss the wheel good bye. They shatter very easily. Eye protection is a must.
  20. Not the reply I was hoping for, but excellent info! Thanks
  21. Since I'm just now pulling the back cover off my diff. for the first time, even after picking it up from the JY and just installing it, I have a question. I know about the normal stampings for ratios, but if there is another number, which is hand written on the planetary, does this indicate a rebuild or just possibly an inspection. Writting is " 28 --> 3 " ,Without the quotes. Everything looks super clean and tight. Anyone have a clue?
  22. I also hope I didn't upset anyone. I never intended my statements to be taken the wrong way. I just wanted to point out what problems I had encountered with my design which was "similiar" to Cheezer240's. Although what I pointed out in my design may or may not have been a problem in his design, I am still trying to figure a solution on my problem, if there is one. Did that make since? Something I would like to point out though. After looking at Cheezer's pic again, it appears to have more "meat" then mine does in the crucial areas, especially considering mine were fill welded together. Which have held up nicely after several "tests"
  23. This is great news, considering I'm finally getting to putting mine in.
  24. FWIW, I am not saying this to sway anyone from these, but the bracket that is being offered here is alot like what I have in many ways. Please read on!(copy/paste: http://www.geocities.com/spotfitz/Bracket.JPG )The e-brake isn't much of a problem. You don't need to add or subtract anything. What I did was actually switch the sides the cable goes to. This makes them shorter. I then reused the spring clip to hold them away from the half shafts, hooking them to the control arm. Hooking the cable up was more or less a no brainer. Worked like a charm. Heres where the problem is. The only thing that I have found that is a problem with this setup is the fact that at the 45* angle the bracket on the ZX caliper for the e-brake lever hits the bottom of the car right at the seam where there are spot welds. If I remember correctly this is actually right where the flex line bracket is mounted to the car. In the first pic you can see where the bracket was. In this pic you can see straight above the caliper where the bracket use to be. Thats where it gets hit by the e-brake lever. (copy/paste: http://www.geocities.com/spotfitz/Reardisc.jpg ) This may have been caused from my suspension being totally shot. I think I remember needing to move the brake line bracket for this reason. I will know for sure in acouple weeks when I get it all back together after coil overs. Maybe sooner. Hope this helps.
