My only advice I can give is to get quality tools you can afford. Yes, Snap-On stuff is somewhat nicer than Craftsman, but not for the money. I would only buy Snap-On if I was going to be working somewhere where a Snap-On truck would be coming by on at least a weekly basis. The same goes for Matco, MAC, etc...
If not, I would get a majority of S&K and Craftsman. The other one to look at for hand tools is Husky. They have some very nice ratchets.
