A couple of the scratches can grab a finger nail and no I haven't tried any polishing. -
Engine woes- read on if you dare

Waiting to hear from the machinist since they assembled the short block. It's sad that the ZX block sitting in my garage with 100K miles looks better then this:( -

So I have been doing some searching - could this be from dirt? I've never run this engine without a filter, but maybe I got careless and had dirt in my CAI? It's the only explanation I can think of that would score the bores ALL the way to the top of the bore. It would have to be wedged between the piston and bore. -

245 tires without flared fenders?
madkaw replied to Newoldschool's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
I get slight rub with 245/45/17's on my 240 with lowering springs and NO coilovers. This is a +4 offset. Like KTM-I believe the +10 offset is the key for maximizing under stock fender. You will have to use a spacer up front. My fronts clear now that I beat in the spring perch a tad. Very rarey the front touches the air dam when reversing in a tight turn and hitting a bump. I'm going with 225's since I messed up with the offset. I think 235's would clear with the +4 offset. Tires are General Ultima XP 17X8.5 rims +4 offset -
I have an adjustable sprocket , but the numbers came out slightly advanced when I was done. I couldn't get it dead on the specs-probably because of head shave and block shave, so I leaned towards numbers that advanced intake.

I ran the 274f Schneider grind and it had very good low end. Power band was as advertised

Well the picture isn't very good-sorry about that. The injectors do run parallel to the port, you can't see them in that pic. The existing holes would probably have to be enlarged for electronic injectors or bungs installed.

Schneider says there is no such thing as new "nissan" rockers anymore-only after market. The kit I purchased was back in 2006, so they said more likely they were Nissans. No way to know for sure, unless someone can tell me. As far as checking rockers, I will be checking rockers for consistancy between the two surfaces to make sure they are truly parallel and flat . -

Side loading it is. The lash pads showed evidence of this with wear marks on just half the bottom of the pad. It increased the tolerance between valve and guide. The rockers were supposedly new from Nissan included in the Schneider cam kits offered years ago. Delta cams rockers will be checked as well as anyone who does my rockers. I'm all for more wide open throttle:) -
I'd love to tinker with these!! I think I would convert to electronic FI . There's no real markings on them, bso don't know who made them. The owner thinks he snatched these out from under Tony D on an Ebay bid. That could be a story in itself-lol

Engine is apart and I do have some issues. The head is at the machinist and looks like the bad rockers took their toll on my valves and guides. I will be replacing guides and valves and touching up the seats. The cam is at Schneider for evaluation. The rockers are on the way back from Delta with a fresh regrind. You can see from the pics that there is a lot of junk on the back of the valves(intake). Lots of soot on the top of the pistons. Right now I am in the process of cleaning everything up to put back together for when the head is done. If the cam needs to be reground, then I will get more aggressive with the grind-why not-lol I will probably bump up CR a bit too. The engine builder questioned my PCV system. He worried that I was pulling too much crud into the intake. My PCV was hooked to my vacuum log. Any input? -
Talked to James at DatsunZfiberglass via e-mail . He already makes a FG dash-OEM replacement and would make a CF dash on request. He said this would be hand laid, laminated and buffed for 550$. Apparently James makes high end CF parts already and is a Datsun enthusiast. Just a possible option.

car wont rev past 3500rpm, 280ZX dizzy issues on SU carbs?
madkaw replied to ol doc gully's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
Until you narrow down the timing issue, you will chasing your tail. Those numbers aren't even close-why? Does #1 wire line up with the rotor at TDC Compression-should be close. Keep vacuum advance disconnected until you get your number closer-it just confuses the issue. As mentioned-a tooth off? Does the tang line up on the dizzy drive at 11.25 oclock at TDC? -
Twin cam head for the L6 from Derek at Datsunworks

Truly --WOW. I commend the ability to brainstorm and then fabricate something like this. Makes me proud to be part of the Datsun crowd at Hybridz. Subscribed! -
Worked great for me - easy, cheap, less wires, less weight, etc....

not interested in this group buy, but would comment on the size. I run the Rota RB's with the same exact size. The wheel will make contact with the front spring perch on a 240-UNLESS you pound the the spring perch flat on the wheel side. This will gain you 1/4" clearance . This is with aftermarket springs on stock perches-your results may vary. Tire size will be limited to 225/45/17 . I run 245/45/17 and have rubbing issues on the rear inner fender during bumps. I am in the process of reducing to 225's which should resolve the issue. Lastly, I can keep my center caps on-not like the guys running the bigger RBR's FYI

I have no idea of the costs for creating a website, but they did themselves no justice the route they took. It does kind of make things 'cheeesy' as far as the presentation. Glad to see the products and hope they do well.

Well a member made me aware of these guys datsunzfiberglass You can try googling them, but they don't have what I consider their own website. It's almost frustrating to look at their products, but they do make a LOT of stuff for the Z -INCLUDING dashes.

Well as luck would have it my head is in the shop so I can't measure anything now, but I can find out for you in a day or so

The wear was so even on all the rockers I was beginning to believe they were machined that way. The wear was significant and I can't help to think it would have been heard while running. I think Delta was half the price of Schneider .

This might be a good thread for this question. Putting together a bunch of rockers to send to Delta and I pulled some off of an early e88 . The rockers had a low spot on the surface that rode on the cam lobe. The 'low spot' looked like an intentional groove machined into the center of the rocker face to hold oil? I have never seen this before. At first I thought I had a bad rocker, then I realized they were a that way. Any comments- sorry I should have taken a pic
-
My comments enlight of recent issues. Bad rockers will ruin your day. Don't assume new is good . Schnedier cams told me that they can have them done , but Delta did the job well and cheaper then who they contract. When degreeing my cam and not coming up with exact card specs - Schneider said that te rocker ratios can sometimes not be exact and this throws off the numbers. Identifying bad rockers is probably done better by using a engine builder familiar with Datsun geometry. My head was done by a local machinist that didn't look for a 'bad rocker' situation when putting together my head. Yes he got the wipe pattern perfect but didn't detect the improperly machined surfaces . Careful blaming rockers for cam failure. My Schneider cam - which has gotten some bad raps- looks great after 12k miles of hard driving. Too many variables involving to many builders gives too many outcomes. The cam is being sent to Schneider for an evaluation as we speak. We have also had issues with lash pads in the forums.

So I got to see the autoclave yesterday-WOW! Looked like a small submarine-LOL He was waiting on his compressor capable of pressurizing the capsule. He said the dashes would be made in this apparatus which would make a very clean precise part. Shawn is still very interested in doing the dash and is considering eating the mold costs and starting with or without me this winter. I told him my car was down for many months so I might consider pulling my dash to use for the mold. I told him that I would love see this happen and be able to display the results at Zcon 2015. The time frame seems very doable, but we know how these projects go. I still have a daughter to get married off in November before I can get serious about much.
