  1. It has been five yrs and you're still working on it . Taking your sweet time , huh . LOL . I'm in Denton , not an RB swap but an LS1 swap . Have any pic. ?
  2. Agreed . Correction , if you cut 1/2 a coil off , for most OE springs , you will get about 10% stiffer .
  3. According to my research , 1/2 a coil is about 25% stiffer .
  4. For those who are doing V8 swap with auto trans. , I've found this switch to replace stock brake switch . You'll need this for your brake lights and TCC signal to your ECM . Will work on the S30 and maybe other ZXs . It's only $15 . If you have a junk Toyota , check out the brake switch . Most have four wires and two sets of contacts .
  5. Thanks . Going to try my way first . I can always cut more off . It would be nice to know the end result before hand , it's not a fun job .
  6. I was thinking about doing that . I'm going to cut 1 coil off in the rear and 1/2 up front ( due to lighter LS1 motor ) . I'm shooting for 25% stiffer up front and maybe , 35% or so in the rear . Then i'm going to lower it by lowering the spring perches to get the stance that i'm looking for . Hopefully , i have enough strut travel so i don't have to sectioning the strut tubes . Thanks
  7. Here is my second LS1 conversion . - 78 Z . - Stock motor and auto trans from 02 Z28 with 60k miles . - Did all the fab myself : motor mounts , trans. xmember , exhaust sys. . - Reworked Z28 wiring harness . - Using stock fuel pump ( seems to be ok at this time , puts out 55 psi. ) . - Took about 6 weekends ( 4-5 hrs day ) to get her running and driving . Still have some detail work to do .
  8. Wow . 2 coils to get 2 1/2 in. . Bet the ride pretty harsh . Thanks . I was going to get 205/50R16 , but i need a little ground clearance . The exh. sys. sits pretty low with LS1 auto setup . Figured 25" tires will 1/2 " higher ground clearance and bridged the gap between tires and fenders . Also give me a little more room to lower the car .
  9. It seems like coilovers is the solution to my problem . Just don't want to go that route , not yet .
  10. That was rec to me in another post . The rear is not so bad , would like it to be a little stiffer and maybe an inch lower . Thanks .
  11. I have done this before on my 83 ZXT . After i converted it to LS1 w/ 6 spd , gutted the dash , replaced bumper reinforcements with lighter brackets to hold the body kit . I cut a coil off at each corner to get it back to its normal ride height . Ride is a little harsh , not bone breaking . The rear is not as stiff as the front and it reduces a lot of squatting during launch . The Z and ZX coils are not the same . I just need to know the amount of lowering with 1/2 a coil cut and 1 coil cut and so on . As you can see the above photos , after LS1 conversion , the front looks like a 4x4 . I just want to close the gap between the tires and the fenders . I went with larger tires , 25" diam. , to gain some ground clearance and narrow the gap by 1/2 " . The exh. sys. is low due auto trans. swap . Here are before and after pic. of the ZXT . Last one is a photoshop ( when she's done )
  12. How much lower would i get by cutting 1/2 a coil or 1 coil ? Need to lower the rear 1 in. and the front 2 in. Any inputs would be appreciated . 78 Z . The rear is not so bad . I can live it , but the front looks like a 4x4 . LOL . I posted this in " brake , susp. " , didn't the get the info. that i'm looking for . If you have pic of before and after , please post them . Thanks .
  13. If you don't have turbo zx center caps , you can pretty much use anything ( use your imagination ) that fit over them . I found that some rattle can caps will fit nicely .
  14. So , you cut a total of two coils . How much lower , in inches , did you get ?
  15. Actually the rear is not so bad . Would like the rear to be a little stiffer . I'm very happy with rear on 83 ZX , by cutting a coil it helps the car from squatting too much during launch . Since the LS1 motor is a little lighter , i don't need it to be very stiff up front . I might just cut half and go from there . Just need to know how low will i get with half cut off . Don't think i will get 2 inches that i'm looking for up front . Might have to lower the spring seats . Thanks the above for your inputs .
  16. Good job ! You are saving me some time to figure this one out . Thanks . Just mounted my XXR 527 on my 78 . Yours look great . Woundered if this method will work with RB/RBR , on my 83 . Don't see why not .
  17. Ok , i just finished my LS1 swap , 78 280 Z . Now , with new wheels and tires are mounted , i'm ready to move on to suspension mod. . Questions are for those who cut their OE springs : I was thinking of cutting 1/2 a coil in the rear , that should give me the look that i'm shooting for . And the front , i need at least 2 in. lower . For those who cut 1 coil off , i need to know how much lower and ride quality ? I have done this , cut a coil off , before on my 83 ZX ( LS1 and 6 spd. ) . Got the look i wanted but the ride is a little too harsh for me . Any inputs or other options will be appreciated . Don't want to do coilover at this time . Thanks
  18. Ryan , Just got tires mounted and on the car . Yeah , 225 are a little wider and an inch taller . Still has that 4x4 look . LOL . Just wounder what spring and strut combo you are running ? I want an inch or so lower in the rear and at least 2 inches in the front . Thanks
  19. But he had the fuel pump wired directly to the ignition switch at first .
  20. You might have security problem that prevents starter from cranking . Check starter signal at the starter to see if it gets 12v. during crank .
