  1. you guys had shop class? man i went to the WRONG highschool. the closest thing i could get to working with my hands was art lol...they required 4 years of religion, and i never had to take PE....talk about priorities...
  2. isnt that only for FWD? RWD shouldnt be loosing that much...
  3. so where would the EDIS unit be located on a pre 94 ford? is it noticeable (i havent looked on the older car yet)
  4. okaay...really stupid question: where is the EDIS6 unit located? i found a 2003 4.0L Ranger, will the coil pack and EDIS6 module work from this? i even called ford dealership and the guy didnt know where it was (honestly i think he didn't know what it was...he sounded kinda confused). so i got the 36-1 wheel and VR sensor, so should i get the other parts from this car? its pretty new so im guessing it should have a lot of life left in it...the guy wanted $60 for the coil pack and spark plug wires...deal or no deal? thanks!
  5. hey sorry for jacking the thread here, but i didnt think it needed its own thread... my turbo outlet is 2" and i/c in/out is 3"...would it be okay to use 2" piping with reducers @ i/c ends, or from the turbo go to 2.5 inch piping and use the respective reducers?
  6. what "yard" are you going to that has multiple ZXT's in it?
  7. i am in the same position you are. i have decided to go MSnS v3.0 and run the EDIS wout of various ford vehicles. BRAAP has a few really good posts regarding the ignition addition of MS. from what i have gathered, MSII is kinda like overkill and it costs more. the advertisements will tell you what they say the differences are but you gotta ask someone who has it on thier car fist. ...my $0.02...
  8. yea i saw those links after the fact, but thank you. i am really scared about soldering/wiring the actual board...but i guess i will have to try right?
  9. thanks for your help! i will be making a trip to the jy tomorrow. any specific years to look for in specific? and these cars have to be 6 cyl right? now as far as wiring it all up and fabricating it, will there be any instructions with megasquirt or will i have to search some more on the forums? thanks again.
  10. for the 82 or 83 zx dist, does it have to be the turbo model? for the EDIS, would i have to find everything that BRAAP had in that picture to use no dizzy or would i have to use something else? I am trying to fihure out what would be easiest/cheapest to find from the jy. thanks. ps. any particular year explorer or aerostar? sorry for the ?'s, i want to know exatly what to get, already made that mistake when hunting for a diff. lol.
  11. I am looking into getting the MSnS and got the fuel part of the megasquirt figured out, but i want to be able to control ignition since i am adding turbo. I have a '77 L28 which the p/o switched to SU's so im gonna have to re-do everything. as far as eliminating the distributor to contol ignition, what have you guys done? i have read megamanual etc. but am really confused. moby's sticky helped some, but i want to know what/how to fabricate to be able to contol spark. some have mentioned the MSD 6AL or something and i thought that just added to the existing elec. ign...any help plz? i am really lost...
  12. flow maps can be easy to read...you just figure the boost (pressure ratio) on one axis and then input the desired rpm range you think you will get full boost by (3200~7000 is what i used) to plot two points then connect the two points and see where in the efficiency range it is at. the calculations can be found in the turbo faq sticky here...
  13. where could you get a Euro zxt dizzy? those might be hard to find yea?
  14. Got it...hopefully i can figure out how to install MSnS for this...
  15. did you mean .490 lift and 280* duration?
  16. Thanks for your reply, but again i think i mis-worded. i already have an intercooler and would not even think about boosting without it. the questions is: how much boost (with intercooler & megasquirt), 91 octane and 7.7:1 cr is safe? sorry for the confusion!
  17. do what all us noobs do...some research before you ask questions about building an engine... and also...
  18. search for cam tower shimming. i think thats the way your supposed to do it.
  19. that is a very good way to isolate battery drain that never occurred to me...thanks, good for future troubleshooting!
  20. headpipe? i got the 6-1 header from them and it looks pretty nice. ill post some pics if i can get some tomorrow.
  21. thanks for your posts everyone. i think i may have mis-stated my question. I know that when pressure increases, so does temp. i meant to ask maybe for some personal experiences as far as octane/CR/boost. i think the calculator meant before boosting VE, as much more air than the orig displacement is being forced into the pistons. Lesson learned: online calculators are junk. got it!
  22. ok i tried using the boost compression ratio calculator here and i was getting some depressing numbers. http://www.turbofast.com.au/TFcompB.html it says that with 16 psi boost, 7.4 static compression ratio i would need better than 96 octane. i am using 70% as a best/worst case scenario but would this change dramatically if i had an intercooler, efficient turbo, etc? im tryin to see how much boost i can run on 91 octane w/o water/alky injection. will be using megasquirt on a N42/P90. sorry if this has been gone over already...
  23. damn aerodymanics...whoever invented that sucks
  24. to put pics in the post you have to put the pic on a site like photobucket. then you can just copy and paste.
