  1. Yeah it sucks for sure. Just when I thought I was going to be able to enjoy the car again. My tranny is computer controlled, no TV cable. I pulled the pan but didn't see anything wrong, like I know what I'm looking at, LOL. Nothing weird in the fluid. I have all the bolts out and am ready to pull it out. As soon as I decide what I am going to replace it with. There is Mad Dog Transmissions in Cumming that sound good, I think I may run up there today and check them out. Not the cheapest way to go but I want something a bit more robust than a stock tranny.
  2. Well we're going to give it a shot. I would hate to have to pull all that stuff off the engine again since I just put it on, LOL. BTW I see you finally got your car painted, looks nice.
  3. Yep everything in the tranny is stock. I did have the shift pressures bumped by the computer when I first installed the old LT1. I'm thinking going with a 2500 stall TC and a better built 4L60E.
  4. Thanks Warren. I don't think I will be taking on any rebuild, way beyond my mechanical abilities. I will probably pull a cooler line and see if its still pumping fuild and then drop the pan to see if anything is in there that doesn't belong.
  5. It possible I guess, but yes I have an external cooler. This is the same tranny and cooler I had with the old engine. Like I said everything seemed fine until I started hitting the engine hard. First few pulls were fine but it got steadily worse quickly. Somone suggested that either to pump isn't pumping or the TC had gone south??????????????
  6. I finally got enough miles on the new engine to see what it will do. I took it out Tuesday and flogged it a few times, its fast. But on the last flog the tranny didn't seem to shift right, like it was slipping badly going from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. I didn't drive it yesterday but this morning I took it out and there is definitely something wrong. At first all seemed fine but after about 10 minutes it was not shifting right at all even driving normal. I barely go it home. Even starting off I really had to go easy, it was slipping badly. The tranny seems full, I tried putting more fluid in (thinking maybe that Lokar dip stick was not accurate) but it didn't make any difference. I guess I will attempt to pull the tranny without pulling the engine. I think its possible. Of course I have no clue why it suddenly decided to go bad since all was good with the old engine and the tranny doesn't have that many miles on it since the PO had it rebuilt (11,000 miles). The tranny seemed to be working perfect during all the driving (500 miles) I did before I put my foot into the new engine.
  7. What rule allows you to throw a race?? Fans go to the races to see competition, not who can manipulate the outcome to keep their sponsor happy. Unfortunately these days its not the fans that matter, its TV and sponsor money that pays the bills. Like every orther sport there is so much money available the sport itself pays the price. I'll step off my soapbox now.
  8. I beleive that race did take place and Tony won, like he said you do what is right and the fans excpet an honest race I agree with what you said about Ashely. I like John, always have. But if he is throwing races to keep sponsors happy maybe it time for him to move on. I just don't think that sort of thing belongs in racing.
  9. Personally I would pull the tank even though I know its a PITA. At least you could look inside and see how bad it is. If its salvageable, flush it out and coat it inside with one of those tank refurbishing coats. If its too far gone, replace it. A 30 year old tank could be totally rusted inside and will cause you problems forever.
  10. Put about 5 gallons in the tank. There should be lines inside the tank going to the lowest point in the tank where the pick up is. But too little gas is never a good idea, you will pick up all sorts of trash and water from condensation if there is any in the tank.
  11. That happened in Atlanta last year and Ashley won. John AT was .170 (he is typically .086) against Ashley's .11 and John smoked the tires almost immediately. Was he too nervous? Possibly since he always worries about Ashley. But I can't say if he threw that one. But yesterday IMHO was an obvious throw.
  12. It used to be carried on PBS, but I haven't seen it recently. http://www.pbs.org/redgreen/tv.html Nothing in Georgia, bummer.
  13. Anyone else think John Force threw semi-final race yesterday to get Hight in the final 10? Personally I think multi-teams should be eliminated from NHRA and NASCAR for that very reason.
  14. I love that show. That dude is the master in innovation! Unfortunately I don't think it hasn't been shown in Atlanta for years.
  15. I haven't worked on a Ford for years. But most mechanical guages come with tubing and several fittings. You should be able to screw it into the same place the stock on goes. Every bad sender (oil, fuel, temp) I have seen causes your gauge to pug. BTW if you remove the wire off the sending unit your gauge should pug with thee key on (not running), if you touch that wire to ground it should go to "0". That will tell you if the gause is working.
  16. Sounds more like a bad sending unit. When I first installed my LT1 I also installed a brand new oil sending unit which turned out to be bad! Bad sender can pug the gauge. Get a cheap mechanicl guage and plug that into your engine.
  17. Cool. Keep an eye on the temp gauge and the coolent level. It took a couple cool downs to get mine completely full and the temp consistent. Damn the LT1 reverse cooling, LOL.
  18. Listen to the man Greg. That other Z he is talking about to is mine.
  19. Thanks, been there done that. My brother worked at the base and has a buddy that worked the graveyard. I got the personal tour, very cool. Lots of money sitting out in the desert!!!
  20. Thats what I put in the calculator. Your gear ratio is 3.7, tire size is 24.86", final tranny ratio is 1.00, 3501 rpm at 70 mph.
  21. I don't know. I punched the numbers into http://www.csgnetwork.com/multirpmcalc.html
  22. You should be taching 3501 rpm. I'm taching 2393 with 215-50-17 3.7 ratio but with .7 overdrive tranny.
  23. With those tires and a 4.11 at 5000 rpm you should be doing 85.8 mph. Sounds like they have the wrong speedo gear.
  24. What size tires are you running?
  25. Update. I pulled the power booster to get the rod out in order to get the screw in part free. A ton of penetrating oil and it was free. Oh yeah, the reaction disc was in place where it should be. I expoxied it in place just to be safe. I picked up a rebuilt '80 280zx 15/16" master from O'reillys. I did bench bleed it but that turned into a major mess. By the time I managed to get it in the car and the brake lines hooked up I lost all the fluid, I have no plugs for the fittings. Obviously I did not do this right. Fortunately the master I got has bleeders so I was able to bleed it back to itself on the car. I did try to adjust the rod according to the instructions I found here but even screwing the rod all the way in I still only get a small amount of upward movement of fluid, I am so confused. But I had to adjust the freeplay on the pedal quite a lot, probably the difference in the 280Z and 280ZX masters. I have good pressure on the pedal, so I took the car out for a ride. The brakes feel great, but its still an effort to hold the car at a light. I may have to lower the idle RPM a bit to make this thing "streetable".
