  1. When injury prevents you from pulling the drive train and transplanting it in your Z and you don't want the donor just sitting in the back yard killing the grass. You drive it around the yard of course. I was half tempted to pull in out on the street. http://www.dejavideo.net/280z8/z28-donor.wmv
  2. Yahoo! You'll be out terrorizing the streets of Corona before long. Years ago I ran an oil pressure gauge and idiot light in my 70 AMX because I didn't trust either of them alone. You can't have too much instrumentation.
  3. Nice, but kind of expensive. But then what isn't expensive in this hobby, LOL.
  4. I'll third that, I've seen cinder blocks topple under that kind of weight. Wouldn't catch me under that car. Of course I do remember changing a tranny in school using a shoppping cart basket for a jack stand!
  5. Thanks, I remember reading something about that, may have to do some fabricating.
  6. Thaks Mike, your ability to search is much better than mine, LOL. See ya Saturday.
  7. Has anyone used the GM air conditioning under hood stuff with the Datsun under dash controls? Any tricks, where did you get adaptors for the fittings? Vintage air gen 2 is nice but mega dollars.
  8. I asked that question on fbody.com. They said its possible to pull it out the top, not easy but possible. http://www.fbody.com/cgi-bin/lt1/read.cgi?msgid=271609#271609 Since my donor car will end up in the junk yard, I'm taking a saws all to it cutting as much off as can before pulling.
  9. 460 CI in a Z, now that's a beast. Congrats on getting back on the road.
  10. Totally agree about your assessment on headers. I will be running a stock engine so I see no advantage to running headers. I'll see if the stock stuff will fit and go from there.
  11. That is what I am going to attempt to do but using Z28 gauge cluster. I'm going to try to use the Z28's fuel tank too which gives me the sending unit and fuel pump. Hopefully it will fit!
  12. I bought my RamsHorn manifolds from Jerry's Discount Auto Parts. They aren't cheap but they may have what you need. http://www.jerrysdap.com/exhaust_manifolds.html Jerry's Discount Auto Parts 17320 Beach Blvd Huntington Beach CA 92647 714-842-0228
  13. There was some talk about thet here before, try searching. But you could relabel the Z gauge to read backwards. E=F and F=E, might take some getting used to.
  14. I've done some searching but am still not convinced, LOL. I have a 280Z with a GEN1 350 in it, not a JTR setup. I am just starting the parts gathering for a LT1/4L60E swap. I am not running headers now, I'm using RamsHorn manifolds, yeah, yeah, but I hate dealing with headers. My donor car is a ' 94 Z28. I sure looks to me like the stock exhaust manifolds would fit. Anyone tried this, and if so what exactly won't fit? There sure looks like they fit tight to the block with lots on clearance on both sides in the Camaro.
  15. When you get around to selling off what you don't want try http://www.fbody.com You have to register but they have a classified section for both parts wanted and parts for sale. Someone is always looking for Firebird parts.
  16. Speedometer Cable (70 inch) #Dat-111 for $65.00 https://shell7.tdl.com/~jags/Datsun_Order.html
  17. Ever since I got this 280Z8, little over a year ago I have had on going issues with the transmission/clutch. About 6 months ago I thought I had it all fixed by replacing the master and slave cylinders and the braided line. The old fluid looked like it had been cooked by the headers and I figured that somehow took the seals out. Things were much better but it was still hard to shift on occasion. I sort of wrote that off as an old abused Monza 5 speed. Friday on the way home from work it was very difficult to shift up or down. Sunday I got under the dash and messed with the pedal height adjustment and got under the car to take a little "slop" out of the linkage, things seems very much better. I rode around for a few hours complementing myself on a job well done. But I spoke too soon. Today at lunch I decided to take a joy ride. I got about 2 miles when suddenly the clutch pedal was gone! WTF! I pulled over to discover a bolt on the floor mat and the master cylinder linkage hanging loose, this can not be good. With no tools and very limited space I was totally unable to fix it. Of course without the missing nut I couldn't have fixed it anyway. I started it up in 1st and limped to the nearest place with tools, Kauffman Tire. After about an hour of trying to get a bolt back into the clevis we gave up and took it and its threaded rod out. WTF, this thing was bent about 30 degrees, what could cause that is beyond me, its a big hunk of steel. We put it in a vice and beat straight again (temp fix just to get me home). Eventually we got it all back together and it is smoother than it has ever been. When I changed out the hydraulics I did not replace this part, obviously a mistake. Tonight I looked at the Datsun shop manual and this thing looks nothing like the stock parts, not even close. Once again this guy used questionable methods to hook something up and I was stupid enough not to assume that and replace everything. I will be swapping out my drive train for a LT1 and 4L60E soon so I doubt I will do much to make this right other than replacing the re-straightened clevis with the new one that came with the WilWood.
  18. Damn Dude, that is one intense modification. Like some have said fabricating mounts for the LS1 would be simple by compared to what you've already done. Got any picts of the suspensions?

  20. There are several used sets on EBay right now, search for LT1 injectors
  21. Like others have said there is no time like the present to learn. All of us at one time had no tools and no skills. If you want a hot rod you'd better learn how it works or you'll spend a lot of money paying other people to work on your car and not necessarily doing it right. plus half the fun of hotrodding is saying you built it yourself. This is not rocket science you can do it.
  22. I can't believe the varity of bolts and screws on this engine.
