  1. Have him send you the VIN number. Plug that into Google, that will tell you what the car was built with. However that's no guarantee the stock engine is still in the car.
  2. LOL, I couldn't agree more. My first new car was a '65 Sunbeam Tiger. It got T-boned by a huge Ford station wagon 6 months later and I got a '66 as its replacement. The car was a blast but everything Britsh broke, imagine that!
  3. Thanks Bartman, pretty much what I was thinking. Its not so much money as it is time. Motorsport has no phone listing on their site, I have emailed them. Hopefully they will get back to me soon. My car is in pieces and I can't leave it where it is for too long. I guess I didn't do enough research on this one. I've gone the "cheap" route on stuff like this before and regretted it. Hot roddding....its always something, LOL.
  4. Welcome to the board. There are 2 of those Miata V8 beasts in our area near Atlanta. I was at the local performance garage today and one of them was in there. Ford turbo powered. Mechanic said it had 465 at the rear wheels. That thing should haul!
  5. I have run into a snag on my rear disc install. I have a 280ZXT rear suspension but am keeping my 77 280Z R200. Apparently I have two choices. I can keep my 77 280Z u-joint halfshafts or go with the CV halfshafts from the ZX which I understand are stronger. But if I go with the ZX pieces I need adaptors. I have seen them on http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=5 Modern Motorsports. My questions are do you guys thinks its worth the trouble and expense going with the CVs? I don't plan on dong any major racing with my car. And if its worth while do you have another option other than Modern Motorsports.
  6. Good question, been wondering about that myself.
  7. Hmmm, not a bad idea. I may just leave the brake pedal stock, it is pretty crowded down there now, would be nice to have a foot rest that actually works. When I looked at the manual I noticed the clutch pedal comes out with just one bolt.
  8. That's what I was thinking. It looks like its maybe 2 inches back from my Scarab setup.
  9. Sometimes ya just gotta bite the bullet. $250 really doesn't sound all that bad.
  10. LOL, yeah but they would just blow up the car at the end with C-4 at the end!
  11. Thanks, I gotta quit asking questions from work where I don't have my shop manual. Quick look at the manual shows how easy that would be. Looks like a trip to pull-apart is in order.
  12. I did some searching and came up with nothing. I am going to convert my '77 280Z over from a Gen 1 350 and truck 5 speed to a LT1 with a 4L60E automatic. Assuming this shoulder ever heals, LOL. Those of you that converted over to using an automatic, what did you do about your pedal setup? I thought about using the pedals from the donor Z28 but then thought that might be more trouble than its worth. But finding a Datsun automatic transmission pedal setup might be tough too. Then again does the Datsun clutch pedal comes out of the stock setup easily?
  13. I agree. I'm about to swap my old Gen 1/truck 5 speed setup for an LT1/4L60E and will be going with JTR. You aked if he has the entire Scarab "kit", what exactly is the entire "kit"? I bought my car already built, (mistake) so I don' know what parts it was built with. The mounts do look like the ones in the Scarab pict.
  14. Ever since I bought this car its used oil, a lot. But I never see it behind me when I'm driving. Yesterday I got bored yesterday and decided to see what the exhaust sounded like so I video taped it. Sure wish I knew what cam is in this thing! If I ever get this damn shoulder rotator cuff injury fixed I will pull that engine and start my LT1 swap. http://www.dejavideo.net/280z8/old-350-2.wmv
  15. Very nice, side pipes take me take to the '60s. What do you have in mind for the hood, obviously that not going to fit under the stock one!
  16. Thanks i realy had no clue and went with what seemed right. I kind of like your idea though, more lights for the brake warning.
  17. I feel like an idiot. Sorry I know its not exactly SBC related but my car is. I removed all the taillights to repaint the taillight frame. Of course I didn't really pay attention to what bulb went where. Working in engineering I assumed you could put them back in the wrong place. So 2 of them are on all the time the lights are on, one of those is the brake and one is the turn signal. Look at the pict and tell me what bulb should be what letter. Right now I have A & C lite with the lights on, A is brighter with the brakes on and C blinks with the turn signals. Thanks
  18. Sounds pretty awesome, congrats on getting it runnng.
  19. It looks straight but it took a major hit in the passenger door post. Pushed it in about 3 inches, cracked the entire dash, wiped out the AC fan motor housing and bent the windshield post and destroyed the windshield. On top of that the passenger door is toast as is both front fenders and front bumper cover. The rear fenders have minor damage, the rear spoiler is totaled and the tries are shot. A good body man with equipment and time could have fixed it but estimates were well over $3000, the car isn't worth that much. The story I got was the kid got drunk, lost control and spun out through a woods settling on a tree. Lost of dirt and tree limbs inside eth e car, LOL. But it drove home fine after we duct taped the body together, LOL. This post is supposed to be bent the other direction.
  20. ROTFLMOA! Thanks, that does add something for sure.
  21. What? And ruin all those bueatiful dandylions????
  22. I think the hatch off the Z28 weighs more than my Z, LOL.
