  1. mmm dirt. that is very common over here. haboo's (dust storms) only happen in 2 places (that i know of) in the world. the good ol south west usa and saharra africa. we had one this summer that was over 4000' tall. 70-80 mph winds driving in sand, not dust. could not see my neighbors house with the dust. traffic come to a stop untill it goes away. usually lasts about 15 min or so and you can see it coming for at least a half an hour before it gets to you. i live on the side of town that gets the brunt of it while others (clifton) are far enough in town that it is just breezy. jimbo
  2. i talked to my brother a little while ago. several house that he lived in when he was stationed at el toro marine base has been lost. one in santiago canyon and an appartment outside of whiting ranch were we used to go mountain bikeing when i went out there. after this is done, so cal will not look the same. good luck to all out there. jimbo
  3. im sure that the local media is blowing some of it out of proportion but not all of it can be far from the truth. i dont think mark's main job is to scare people into voting one way or the other. i trust what ive seen more that the medias version. the porblem is out here as well. there are canyons in lake powel that have not been exposed to hikers for decades since the dam went up. let it rain everywhere. jimbo
  4. storm sewers??? i know. jk. i have a storm water retention pond down the street from my house. it has 2 soccer fields in the bottom. a couple of years ago it rained 3" in 2 hours. not alot for you guys out there or in other parts of the country but that was a ton here. the pond is 13' deep and i did not see the goal posts for 2 days. all i can say is i hope it rains soon. a little at first and then alot later. and you know that when you are tired of the rain and want it to stop, you still wont have enought to get the lakes back to where they were before. jimbo
  5. wow. i caught some of this on the news last night but really thought nothing of it since it is what we are used to. when it does rain, watch out for the flooding. after the soils is baked to a concrete like finish, only a small amount of rain will cause more problems than what you have now. flash floods happen here with only a half inch of rain. we have had several 2.8" rain days that caused huge problems. several years ago a bridge was about to collapse in mesa. hope the weather changes for the best for you guys on the other side of the country. jimbo
  6. good call. i had to man handel mine to get it on there. bare frame thought no suspension. would not have even contemplated if that stuff was on there. jon, i see that your suspension is on and car is on rotis. i thought that that would be a no-no. was that just temporary or have they been on for a while and if so, have you seen any problems? jimbo
  7. true but extreamly rare. i worked and still do for other people. i have designed luxury homes homes for years. quite a job for a contractor to work for my engineer. it is what i always wanted to do (be an engineer) but they kept giving me side work to do. so much side work that i could not do it all my self. 4 emploees later it is still doing well. while i liked makeing all of that money, i spent a ton of it for baby sitters and resturants because i did not have time to cook. work from 8am to 1-2am. not fun and did not see the kids. like da-man said, it is not the amount of money that matters. i have slowed the buisness down so that i do not have to pay for baby sitters and eat out all of the time and the money at the end of the month is about the same. i can help with the kids home work and watch tv and work on the car and the yard and........ that is worth more than anything. ive always heard it but i had to live it to understand it. owning your own buisness is rewarding but long hours await you in the first few years. jimbo
  8. the living room is next. i just ordered a new front door. i should say the old lady ordered it. paint and windows, flooring and then i get to finish it off with a plasma, if money allows. several months ago, i get a phone call from my wife and to me it said that she filled out paper work for a $25,000 loan. i thought whatever. about a week later i get a wierd call from a realator(sp) about a house i put an offer on.. wthf. call the wife. "oh yeah, we just bought another house. it will be for a rental for extra income." ???????? when was i going to be informed. i guess i did not hear the extra 0 in the loan amount. dam it. so for the past month, we have been over fixing the place. whoever invented wall paper needs to be shot. removing that crap SUCKS. then you have to retexture the wall so that the glue wont show through. if i can get the car off of the rotisserie and onto jack stands with the suspension on today, i will be happy. good luck with everyones side projects / honey do lists. jimbo
  9. i know that a bunch of you are in A. school B. work 40-50 hrs a week. C. have wife and or kids D. any of the above besides that, what else eats away from your garage time? heres mine just finished with all of the custom cabinets and light fixtures. i hate doing drywall. several different colors of paint to try to please the old lady. my pond out in the front yard. jimbo:wc:
  10. i can see there being more pressure, wont that skew the results? it seems that would be like comparing apples to oranges if the #'s are skewed. "my head flows 200 at 25"" "oh yeah, mine flows 210 at 28"" which is better or more common. im confused. jimbo
  11. thers other things on craigslist beside hookers??? i will have to check that out. jimbo
  12. whats the difference between testing at 25" vs 28" of water? jimbo
  13. been a while since i replyed to this. life gets in the way sometimes. i have most of the car sandblasted, there is a bit of relestate under the car that i missed. here is my line to install camber plates here is the camber plates installed i had to replace the subframe connectors and frame rails. azcar suspension and brakes. i had the struts powder coated. i have the lonewolf peformace custom intake. spork did the head work on it as well. flow bench says 220 in at .4" lift on intake. 75mm tb as well and devils own meth kit. the pistons are forged and ceramic coated and dry film lubed. the head is ceramic coated as well. spork had a great deal on turbos. i will let the cat out of the bag on that when i get the car running.:-D i got a smokin deal on an atl cell. 22gal. i know its big, but that means i do not have to stop as often 17x9 fronts and 17x10 rears cage will be going in in a few weeks. jimbo
  14. just by looking at the guy, im sure his thought was "wow my car is baaaad ass. look at what it could do." not "oh crap i suck as a fabricator". pretty funny though. jimbo
  15. some of my clients were in line. they are still playing. whoppie. they were also in line for star wars 3, lord of the rings trilogy back to back before the return of the king, and waited in line for wow. mind you, these are men in their mid 30's, married, kids, AND deny that they are nerds. they have themselves as simpson characters on their computers. they just need a pocket protector and scotch tape on their glasses to complete the look. jimbo
  16. mines the piece of $hit that is in the garage that i do not get enough time to work on. sooner or later it will get a legal name change. jimbo
  17. would not be bad fender vents on top either. good find. jimbo
  18. me and my pop used to when i was a kid. had a 99" wingspan glider that was awsome. we could get it high enough that we had to use binoculars to see it. do a few loops to bring it down and go find another thermal. then we got a trainer that did not last long. both turned into lawn darts. fun while it lasted. jimbo
  19. :nono:that will get you kicked out a here quicker than $hit through a goose. yes the old link was just that, old. try surfing around or try this http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_753931_-1_10775 jimbo
  20. i may know the answer. those look very close to the azcar camber plates. according to the azcar web page you needed to weld them to the top of the strut towers. certain bolts for the plate will then be too high and hit the hood. the answer is to weld them so that the top is even with the top of the strut tower. i am not sure how yours are installed though. you may be able to find lower profile bolts that bolt the aluminum adjuster to the plate, like a button head bolt. jimbo
  21. hey grumpy, have you run across anything for the turbo crowd. it looks like all of that is geared for the na crown. i know that some will transfer over to forced induction, but have you see anything specificly for that application? just curious. i am looking for it myself as well (burns is in my favs). lot of premade stuff but no theory that i have found so far. jimbo
  22. i say go for it. there are a lot of people who have the money to spend. at a local car show was a guy who bought a cobra kit car and had it rebuilt to the tune of 200k. for that he could get a real one but to each his own. and llc is cheap and have a chat with an lawer. ffr, occ, west coast choppers and others do the same thing as you and they get it done, somehow. buy one and try it out. the kit you buy may not be the easiest to build or other hurdles that you have to jump. go for it. jimbo
  23. that looks like a blast. my big question is how well can he stop. i see he can manuver pretty well but that can not get you out of every problem that can and does come up. i have had a lot of close calls while i was bicycle racing. we had good brakes but at 65+ mph, it took a while to stop. i have bounced off of rock walls and gone over the edge of switch backs because i was going just a little too fast. i would love to try that as well as the jet man guy that built his own jet powered wings on a back pack thing. i saw it here a while back. why is it the euros come up with these things? americas claim to faim is the mountain bike, but that was in the late 70's early 80's. not much since. opps, forgot snowboarding. jimbo
  24. I thought that the datsun 810 had the l6 in it. that would be kinda cool. leave the body beat up and primered. then pull up next to a evo or wrx and blow doors. jimbo
