  1. positive #'s means a upward force (lift) is generated. -#'s means downforce. at the test speed, the ass end of the car got 176# heavier than it was standing still. equal to 2 bags of concrete sitting in the back. with that extra downforce (weight) it lifted up the nose of the car. this is where the air dam and ducting come in to bring the nose back down to level or there abouts. hope that helps jimbo
  2. clifton is dam quick in his 7m powered 73. 600+ rwhp. and he drives it with his tile laying tools in there. (untill he got a truck). i think dave (azcar) told me that he has towed a small trailer behind as well. this is unconfirmed. will have to call clifton on that one. he might have a few more ponies in there now that he got his motor back together before msa show. his meth hose came off without he knowledge and he boosted to 20 ish and blew 4 of the 6 ring lands. opps. now he has bigger forged pistons in. jimbo
  3. i notice that most vents people put on are behind the wheels like on a vette. i know i have seen some on the new viper that are on top of the wheel arches. does one have more of an effect than the other? jimbo
  4. i scored an apr wing off ebay for $150. all of the other things on your list are sitting in my garage waiting patiently to be attached. one thing that still has me is i have a fmic. it is about the same size as the radiator. both are azcar. this will be on the street being driven as well as on the track. so sitting in trafic with temps of 120 degrees + radiating off of the fresh black top freeways just finished in the phx area. i think the opening for the duct work needs to be half the size that it is now, not a small hole for racing only apps. any comments on that part. jimbo
  5. i was going through the data and began piecing together mods to apply to the car per the data that will match each other, front to back. it looks like the you can put too much downforce to the rear of the car and make the front end come up. i.e. whale tail or wing and nothing done to the front looks like it would be bad. i think more attention to the front of the car is needed and then almost anything added to the back would be a benifit. more info and testing is needed. i wonder if the west coasters can put something together on a "trial basis" ($ wise) at a tunnel and do a second set of tests. i know that the best whould be to keep the tunnel set up the same, but in an effort to save some green, just an idea. jimbo
  6. back in the 90's i was a pro road racer and was semi pro on the mountain bike. we would do several of the world cup events when they were in the area. iron horse in durango, tahoe, mamouth ect. hans ray was the man. that dude was card carrying crazy. trials riding. i saw some footage of him in moab utah that if he missed, he would not be found. i knew several frinds that would do that stuff but my paycheck depended on me NOT getting hurt doing something stupid and not making the next race. i just could not let myself do that kind of riding. i like what skin i have left thank you and did not need an extra er bill. cool vid. jimbo
  7. i would have like to see the look on your face when you opened the hood to see the molten plastic. jimbo
  8. the thing looks great in pics but unbelievable in person. i saw it 6 mo ago when they were molding the hood to the car and they just got in the reation research rears to cut up to form the custom rear end. the amount of fg on the car is unreal. no sharp edges, the whale tail is SMOOTH into the hatch. it is definitly one of a kind. kudos to both of those guys on the amount of work that went in. i had no idea gary that that was your sons car. i am sure he is looking down ans smiling. jimbo
  9. dam that kid rocks. does a great job doing joe satriani jimbo
  10. awsome news. thanks for all who donated and many thanks for those who put it on. thanks jimbo
  11. yep, that was me. i was not so calm the day before. i got no sleep. i finally realized that there was not much more for me to do about it and was in the hands of the police. yesterday i was supoosed to go to work but the phone would not stop ringing. one interview after another. might as well tell others about it so that there may not be another. try to turn this negative into a positive. i just thank god that she is ok and we will get through this. she is a shy little girl and am affraid that she may close up a little but i know she will be ok. i have 3 more girls after her to worry about as well. jimbo
  12. i cant seem to get a break with some of the crap that i have to go through. this is the latest. just one more reason my car is not done http://www.kpho.com/video/13214880/index.html?rss=pho&psp=video jimbo
  13. wow. i think that guy broke several law of physics. no 2 object can occupy the same space at the same time. i could have swore that he was inside of a couple of those other cars. my sphinkter slammed shut on a couple of those passes. jimbo
  14. uh cd? what is a cd. i only have mp3 from napster. jk. i remember listining to kiss and the stones on 8 track. +3 for rush jimbo
  15. i think the pad that are in daves set are the wilwood pads ( i think). clifton has been romping around in his car for several years and has yet to replace the pads and he autox's his car as well. jon has a point though of a prepackaged deal may not be the best for everyone. i bought the big brakes from dave just because i like to support the local guys. i may have gone over kill but what the hell. jimbo
  16. i was thinking about bare alum but did not want to deal with the constant maintainance of polising them since mine will be very visible. jimbo
  17. its not that dave would not make them in any other color, its that his run of hats came in red because of that is what the machinist had at the time. i primered mine and will paint later to the color that i want. no biggie. i think that all of his stuff comes in red. except for the 300 z stuff which is antifreeze green. the 240,260,280 is all red. jimbo
  18. in the phoenix area is spankys auto body. he has done a ton of z's. several that have won best of show at msa. dan meekins (coyote gary on zcar) is the body / paint guy and his brother gary is the mechanics side. http://www.spankysautobody.com/ awsome work. jimbo
  19. there is one in mesa also. i cry whenever i see it. jimbo
  20. i really hate to say it, but an ambulance chaser might be the way to go now. especially with the condition of your gf. some of them wait to get paid so there might not be out of pocket for you. sorry to hear about this. life sucks sometimes. jimbo
  21. ah yes, the saddles. i had about 8 different saddles that i tried before i found the one that fit. everyone is different. my last bike was custom made with my geometry that i likes and the lengths that i needed. amazing machine. different stem lengths help too. i never wore gloves, just keep a loose hold of the bars and change hand position often. i guess i was lucky, i could stay in the drops for hours. when i first started riding, i remember doing a 30 mile loop every day. miles are an ok indicator for training, but you butt and legs do not know distance. they know TIME. 30 mile might equal 1:30 one day and over 2 hours the next. i have spent over 6 hours doing a hilly 100 mile road race in colorado and the next weekend spend just over 3 hours at the hotter than hell raod race in texas. hours in the saddle. keep a training diary. monitor your heart rate when you wake up. keep track of the ride that you did, conditions and mental mood. given some time, this is a great indicator of your fitness. i never used a heart rate monitor but knew tons of people that did. for me it was just another piece of hardware on my bars that told me what i already knew. get out there and have fun. jimbo
  22. looks good. get some good cork tape on there and definitly get fitted correctly. it looks like the shifter housing out of the sti levers is about 1.5-2" too long. you could cut the housing and get a little better shifting out of it. also the rear brake housing looks like it is tangled up with the rear shifter housing. may be just the angle of the picture. next, put in hours in the saddle. the most i did in one day was 175 mi. actually did it back to back and was worthless for about a week. i rode well on 400-450 miles a week. fast road races under 4.5 hours were not a problem, when they got over that i had troubles. you can alway find a "race" in a MS150:coollook: jimbo
  23. ok, it looks pretty easy. i did a quick calculation and a 5 1/8x12 glu-lam beam will span the 15' +/- that is where the pitch is. it wolud rest on the existing walls with posts. then you could hanger 2x6 joists @ 24" o.c. for the front pitch and then 2x12's at 12" o.c. now this should meet the local code. the problem is that the reaction of the beam is over 4000# which means the need of a footing. now with that being said, you could probably get away with 2x12 @ 16" and not see the roof sag at all. 24" and i am willing to bet that the roof will start to deflect to the point that you could see it. do not want that. you might be able to get away with out the footing depending on the soil bearing pressures in the are and the width of the existing footing. can not tell you that one. just post up the glu lam so that the top of the beam is at the ridge line and nail it down. you could leave the existing framing as is. the snow load would not be applied to that part anymore. hope that helps. jimbo
  24. thanks for the link tony. curently i am getting the drivetrain coated, pistons, head, valves, intake runners, ect. have used it in the past on score baja bugs, sandrails, and midget sprint cars with no adverse affects. do the research and i think it is pretty promising. do you need it? no i dont think so. but if you are going nuts, why not? jimbo
