Hey John Check out this site unless you already have. It contains "click to see" vids instructing how to braze, weld, solder, combination metals when TIG/MIG is not appropriate. I like it!! http://www.muggyweld.com/video.html And thanks for all the solid advise in the past, I appreciate it.

I purchased some mirrors from them last week and they sent a new 2006 catalogue for the Zs. Must be a glitch. They have a lot of stuff for the z, but sometimes shakey quality or pricey. Conveince set aside it would not be the worst thing that ever happened. Unless it drives the price even higher at other outlets. But how could anyone beat the high prices of the z store!! .02 cents....

Try Z Therapy. They sell a vid that takes you through the process. It is one nice looking car!! Once you see there example car, you will be compelled to do one! It seems that the top is chopped and retained for use on the *** of the carr. Part of the top about were the dome light is and about half of the hatch rails are used for the trunk. Im seriously considering the conversion for Z #2. The process is scary, but the results are very nice!

Yes Blueoval. I found only a couple of instances as well. I guess if it fails one could beef it or replace it. Im sure you yourself have put some twist on a few. By the way, I really like the Blue oval Z. especially the Ford power aspect!! I might be bais however. many thanks for your hard work!!

Howdy! Check the Masterseries website. They mention a metal prep product that will etch and protect without prime. Stores for an extended period.

bjhines Good point. Leaving the rear flex mount, and the front ridged does compound the problem by appllying leverage against the crosmember via fulcrum and leveraged forces. Regardless unless one wants to live with the rear whine that will come from an all "solid" installation, (which by BTW will still be applied to a component designed for less loads), some structural upgrades will still be required. It would be nice to know if we are looking at an isolated verses reoccuring event however. I will do some poking around. Many thanks,

Score! Rubber mount, neoprene, solid. Makes no difference. Look at it this way, exaggerated. Lets say you have a popsickel stick attached to an egg using a rubberband that has a quarter hanging from the far end of the stick. Now you want to hang a shoe from the end of the stick. The stick can handle the weight of the shoe but being concerned about the rubberband, you wrap duct tape around the egg where the rubberband attaches to the stick. Voila! Yes? No! The egg pops!! Break out the welder boys! You need a tougher egg!!!

Hey Are the frame rail dimensions radically different compared to the first gen 280Zs? I ask because if they are the same or close, could one not use the Alsil designed, and available. engine cross member? Jtr tranny mount kit? JTR radiator kit. Tweak and burn?

Congrats to ZeeBoost. Did you get a copy of the dissmissal? I have kept several as mementoes and to remind me to try harder to be smarter. Of course avoiding citations is eaiser that beating them. My favorite is one that I didd'nt beat cause you just couldn't beat the deal. 125 in a school zone!! Paid 26.50!! No joke! Is a long but interesting story for another day but know this....it wasn't really a school zone. I was finally pulled over next to a bus stop at 8:30 in the evening. And I was going a hell of a lot faster than 125!! I was going to fight the school zone thing as it was a potential loss of license. When given the court date, I was not going to be able to make it as I was out of state. When I asked what I could do to clear the matter sooner. The clerk said pay the fine of 26.50 and it would be filed with prejudice. Needless to say the coins were falling all about.Come to find out the big concern was the car I was racing. I was mearly a bystandard to them....but not inocent. Mike? A Camode? Why yes, back in the day I used to love two door rattle and glove boxes that would fall off in my hand!! Gotta grow up somehow!!

ambersdad Good two cents! No guarantee. Especially if one misses the hidden radar shooter or they park after you have been through scoping for a turn around pass. Would be nice if a track was available in all of our areas. Certainly would be the correct fix for the need for speed. I was pulled over several times when I was stationed in South Carolina by the local peace officers just so they could scope out the ride. Cops like toys to. Quite a few anyhow. And by the way Mike, that particular car was a built to the bone early Z28. A Chevy! Ha! Cheers to the times that we have all "gotten" away with what we do more often than not. Guilty? Who me?

Congrats!!! Never surrender to guilt or to lawyers! Save your dough for something really important...like a divorce!!!!! Driving sternly can be habit forming. Time and a place is the rule. Its working. Havent been cited since 1999. I look for the spots to lean on it. Sometime scout a stretch of interesting road way for a few miles, turn around and lean on it a bit. Regardless I'm happy for you! Have fun!

buZy At 300lbs the rebound strength exceeds thoes inserts ability to dampen without extream wear and damage. They may hold for a while, or they may go right away. I have heard tell of adjustable Illuminas giving up on test drive #1 with 375s on the rear. I'm using Illuminas so I have decided to stay at the high side of the charts but under the recommended max. John hit it on the head above by the way. Thought he was looking under my rig!! One can always shell out more dough for tougher inserts if one needs rock crusher springs. The dough is significant by the way. Do a search hear on inserts or hit the web. you will see what I mean. Balance. I chose balance. On a straight liner, totally different set up.

Mikelly for Mayor! Copy and paste Mikelly's last post, carry it with you for the next TWO court appearances. his words are golden on this one. I also have only been nailed on one serious moving violation but have been handed at least six over the years. Always and on every visit to the corthouse do as mike said. Always "Respectfully Not Guilty". A bonus is when you get a ticket on the weekend. Nine times out of ten its a reserve police officer. They have regular jobs during the week. You appear in cour when they cannot. Even if he is a regular, you still have a chance that he will not make it. They are rarely there at the first vist which is where you plead "Not Guilty". Second vist "Not Guilty". If He is not there you "Very Politly", ask that the charges be dropped. The judge usually asks why? They dont really like to give stuff away. You must say that you would like to "Respectfully" request that the charges be dropped due to the charging officers failure to cohoberate his evidence against you. If it's your day, SMACK goes the wooden mallet. Can't win them all, but you can win most. If the officer is there, then you can try the technical objections. Not a winning team to be on however. I wish you the best, but in the end its not a murder rap.

Silicone Boy The published Illumina specs will not allow you to go to 300lbs on the rear without damage to the inserts. the typical set up for spring rates do call for at least 25lbs more in the rear than the front for "all around" handling. This appears to be your target. You cound bump up to 250 to 275 in the rear, click up on your Illuminas and you will most deffinately see an improvement. Sway bar in the rear only dampens cross loading and will not prevent/ affect squat. a stock sway bar is about all that one really needs in the rear to retain your desired handling versatility. if you dont have LSD more sway just hurts you. If all else fails...break out the check book!! Good luck sir, keep us posted.

Dito for me! Well put Pop N Wood. Looks sell. V8 Hot Rods sell. These days more than ever. When people buy, they buy for the looks. Looks good...is good.

Hey Doug! If you are going for a factory restore I can understand you desire to re-do the Datsun seats. If not, replacement seats are cheaper! Check out K2 seats or even Nismo. I dumped the factory seats for a really nice pair from K2. The cost difference is worth investigating. See the link below for some restoration parts anyhow! Good luck sir! Coil Over FAQ Question
Twoeightnine replied to Twoeightnine's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Nope... If you bolted your wheels on and they are only rubbing "hard" on the stock springs, with the 2.5 inch OD springs installed and the flares, sounds like you should be in good shape. Two types of camber plates, weld in and bolt on. Both will work with MMS. Oh yes, there are two other camber options rarely recomended. The slot the towers and use large washers or cam bolt. Looks like so far the gather parts and assemble a kit verses buying a kit made for the Z has a savings of 60 to 80 dollars. Sound right? Im just trying to make myself feel better! Good luck, get er on the road!! Twoeightnine. -
Coil Over FAQ Question
Twoeightnine replied to Twoeightnine's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
73LT1Z Nice shot! Hey if it takes a vette "nut" on your Z to give em a run, I'm rooting for ya! Yes I was concerned about the upper. In the pic it looked as if it wouldn't work without some fabbing. After a couple of weeks of searching and scratching the head, I just bailed and went with the full kit. I hate doing a job more than once. It can start adding up. Was hopeing to get away cheaper, but I have plenty of other opportunities in the build for some savings. Keep the parts list and keep us abreast. Good luck! Twoeightnine. -
Coil Over FAQ Question
Twoeightnine replied to Twoeightnine's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Nope As I just went thru this situation I can tell you that you gain about 3/4 of an inch just going to 2.5 inch coil over kit. But to get big meats in there at the rear, the use of a eight inch long spring is required. What this does is to raise the lower perch to take up the lack of spring length. As you have seen the strut is mounted at an inboard angle, so as the perch goes up, it goes in. I was informed that at eight inches, however, one needs a pretty stiff spring rate to prevent spring bind. Stiffer than I wanted so I went with ten inch springs and 255 rears. Fits the wells with 3/8 clearance from the springs. Your wheel "offset" may be different but regardless...stiff rear, 2.5 od, eight inch is about the best you can do. There are alot of options out there for spring set ups. I searched at this site for many options. Wound up using the MMS kit. No experience with the others, so I cant say. Thats a lot of tire you got there! Gonna take some nipping and tucking, and maybe a shim or two.you got a challange on your hands if you dont have flairs. Good luck! Twoeightnine -

73LT1Z Did you get the upper perches? And if so, and if I may ask, was the total. Twoeightnine. -
Hybrid With the "Z" after that, straight bottom and you have a winner! Twoeightnine

Coil Over FAQ Question
Twoeightnine replied to Twoeightnine's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Howdy After researching a bit it seems that if one cops all the parts from the various sources listed in the forum, minus taking a chance on E-Bay discount springs, the price savings is not a great deal verses purchasing a complete kit from Modern Motorsports or Ground Controul. Since I was buying other stuff as well I went ahead and bought a complete MMS coil over set. As for the installation, it took me so long to decide that my window to install them has passed for the moment. I will be waiting untill the car returns from paint to do the mod. It may be best for me any how as I can put the suspension bushing kit in on reassembly and basicly have the suspension out only one time. Not to mention the overspray concerns that I had concerning the install. As for the install situation, look above at jmortensen's suggestions. And coupled with one that I saw that 440Man started that mentioned "mock up". In otherwords dont commit to the collar placement if one has concerns. Hose clamp (maybe two) lower it to the ground and check. Sounds fair to me! I'll still take pic's but it will have to wait un till I get er back. Let me know!
