  1. Well, I know I'm going to fab my own mounts. Have you heard of Jags That Run? Google it, and on that website they have info about swaping engines into Z cars, although I'm not sure if they have your model. I would imagine anything that deals with the engine is going to go. Your going to have to find out what is controlled by your PCM. Because that's going to be replaced with the one for the LT1.
  2. My first word of advice....duck! People are told all the time to use the search funtion and you can get about 80%-90% of what you need. So do some research here, and then ask some more specific questions. I'm doing a LT1/t-56 into a 280zx. I hope your not afraid of wires. Well good luck with your indever.
  3. It looks like the driver side door and rear quarter panel. Looks like it's going to be a really interesting drawing, can't wait to see the whole thing.
  4. I also went with the Optima battery in a plastic box in the spare tire spot. It had a little rust which I fixed with some por-15. I also had to get about 21 feet of 0 size positive cable(to get to the starter) from a trailer supply shop. There are some good spots to attach a ground cable to, some bolts that go right to the frame. And I also welded a flat piece of sheet metal to put the battery on, although I could have welded it a little bit lower.
  5. Yes, it's so sad. He was a great racer, a master in his sport. He will be greatly missed.
  6. I don't know if this question has been asked before, but how well do you think those headers would work flipped around and working as just headers to an exhaust? I've got an LT-1 going into a 280zx, and we all know that there is a clearance prob with the driverside header. Just looking for something that might work. Thanks for your time.
  7. I would like a copy of that also, if you please. I'm putting an LT-1 into a ZX, but I think that would help out still.
  8. Welcome to the board. If you did want to swap the engine, I think some owners of olders Z's look for newer Z engine to swap into their cars. That's who I'll be looking for when I pull my engine.
  9. :)If you do a quick search, I'm sure you can find info on the 3.36 LSD. It's been talked about a lot.

    Datsun in anime

Geez, I didn't even think about that. Well, if the Mod's want to delete this post, that's fine.
  11. I know it's nothing new about zcars being in anime, but I was surfing around and came upon this one, and thought it was really cool. Just wanted to share it with everyone here. http://www.dailymotion.com/tag/anime/video/x2gj5m_wangan-midnight-1-part-22-eng-subed
  12. Yeah, your real lucky about that. It's not going to keep me from continuing though. I'm going to have it smog legal. Are the EGR ports going to get in the way of anything? Thanks for all your help here.
  13. I had some in the spare tire spot, but pixed that with por-15. I've also got some bad spots right above the windshield. I need to take care of that soon. And of course the battery tray, which I may just take out since I moved the battery to the spare tire spot. Other then that, just some light surface rust.
  14. I bought my zx back in '03. My dad suggested that I might like how that car drives, and he was right. I didn't really have the kind of power I was looking for, so I was thinking about selling and getting something else. Then one day while I was at the junkyard getting some interior pieces, some guys were pulling engine pieces off the same car and we started talking. They mentioned that they had an engine in a z that it didn't come with and I asked them how that was possible and they started talking about ref centers and that little doorjam sticker(thankfully that same car had one in it's window). I went home and did some research on the web, found this site, and never looked back. I now have a '95 LT1 and '96 T-56 waiting to be put into my car. I'll post some pics and more details when I get home. This place is great.
  15. Thats great to hear you have your car back from the painters, can't wait to see pictures of it. Do you know if the JTR headers come smog legal? I live in San Diego, and I've got to handle that unfortunately. I'm thinking of swaping over to the rack and pinion. I have a ram horn mainifold off of a '64 283, do you think that would work? And if I remember correctly, the stock manifold for the LT1 works, correct?
  16. My whole mouth dried up from my jaw being open for so long reading and watching about this car. It beats out the Bugatti Veryon by 100 hp. I hope Top Gear does an episode about it soon. If they're still on the air. 0-130+ in 4.9 seconds, holy-sh**!
  17. Thats what I thought about the gravity tester. I've never had the need to see if my optima was working properly or not. I guess a little common sense could have answered that question. Oh well. Thanks for the response.
  18. I'm not trying to be smart or anything, but can you gravity test an optima battery? I have one myself. Just curious.
  19. I don't know about your car specifically, but when that happened to mine, the fusible link melted. It's on the passenger side engine bay, in a plastic box. That's exactly it's purpose. You can buy a roll of fusible link wire from Kragen, or whatever auto parts store is close to you. I would also check the ground for the battery, clean it up real nice. Hope this helps out. Did you mean you have a 79 280zx? Thats what I have.
  20. I see you're running the 4l60e, are you thinking of getting some of those new paddle shifters? I think I would have, had I not be planning on putting a t-56 in mine. Just wondering though.
  21. I'm doing a ZX swap myself here in San Diego, and the first thing I did was use the search function for headers. The 2 main problems being of course the steering box being in the way, and ZX's were first made in '79, making them a smog issue. Just 2 "little" obstacles. Now duck, and look out for flames.
  22. I'm putting an LT1/T-56 into my 280zx. I've got the electric water pump (CSR , I think), 1.6 rr, and a CC304 cam, Isky springs, complete once over by a machine shop which bored it out .030 over (so it's a 355 now), cloyes double roller timming chain, and fel-pro rebuild kit. I can gladly say that I took it all apart, drove it over to the machine shop (Thanks Ed Hale!) in my datsun, drove it back when it was done, and then put it back together. And I also had help from my roommate, Vince, he's a good friend. The T-56 got a rebuild also, and I had the shop put in all the little upgrades for the tranny. So I really have no idea what the horsepower/torque rating is, but I've heard 10-15 hp for the electric water pump, and with everything else I'm hoping to be close to 300. And hopfully, I can get it all smog legal. I'm going to be happy with that, but for the hell of it, I'm going to install some laughing gas. Mainly for the fact that I can say that I did it, plus the looks. Not I'm just waiting to get my motorcycle, and '48 chevy running good, then I'll start with the datsun. It's the GL model, so I believe it has the r200. And I'm going to install a hidden audio set-up, because so a$$ broke into my datsun and took the faceplate and remote from my stereo. Plus the armrest I got from Motorsport Auto. Those bastards! But they did use a slim jim, so I didn't have to replace a window. Well thats a for now.
