To me it looks like it still has IRS in the rear...specifically, tubular control arms. Look at this pic: http://forums.performanceforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=839951303&postcount=18 Notice rear wheel camber change at launch in this video: definitely not a truck frame. I believe the statements "NERO" made.

What about doing the rockers in black too if you are doing the airdam? That would be cool looking I think. Sort of like a bricklin...

hmm...VERY cool. For the record a VH45DE serpentine water pump pully will fit on a Z waterpump bolt pattern and close to the same diameter. Maybe shimming or modification could offset the belt to fit. I can get pics if one of you would want... A VH45DE alternator with pully looks quite similar to a Z alternator as well. VH45 water pump serpentine belt is 15mm wide Pic: VH45 pully on top vs. LD28 pully below (like L28 pully but has extra pully on it)

Dual R200 diffs and a Hilux transfer case... link found here on another thread here on HybridZ: http://forums.performanceforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67224281 "NERO" said in the link: OK, Kevin's car. It now has 880bhp nascar 6lt Chev engine, manual's auto 4spd 5000 stall (so no clutch and expensive manual and less time lost in gear changes), Toyota Hilux transfer case, R200 diffs with LSD's front and rear, Proflex suspension, 11" slicks all round. Faster than any WRX/EVO yet encountered. Massively fast in the wet. Has won the last Mt Gambier event outright, Aust champion in hillclimbs in class last 3 years another post from "NERO": It's continually developing, as most cars that are actually used regularly do. Kevin was thinking of a spaceframe/FG body car to get rid of 150kg of weight. I don't think sandown would be that good for it...it would be good at winton, esp in the wet. Back to my thoughts: just looking at it... the aerodynamic modifications look quite effective for a low speed rally car.

Zlalomz: That is really cool! Maybe chop the windshield to 3/4 the height? It looks a little out of place being that tall IMO. -

So I was trying to come up with a good way to get fiberglass for dirt cheap. Well I was at the junkyard yesterday and had quite an inspired idea... Airbags; they are made of a very strong Kevlar material. Would they be good for using for composite parts? I don't see any reason why not as kevlar is often used with resins. Just an idea...

Blue foam for fiberglass mold ? what is it
OlderThanMe replied to gretchen/jason's topic in Fabrication / Welding
http://www.uscomposites.com/foam.html (somewhat)mucho cheapero... just build a chicken-wire frame and then spread this over to make final contours.. Then pull FG mold and make pieces. Hmm. -
So I finally joined the Z crew :D (big pics)

I wouldn't... Change it every 3k miles like normal. -
I had one like this... Spent $15 on it. It literally broke on the first valve. The threaded section in the middle is only thin-wall tubing and not solid and it just ripped out on the first valve. The pictured one looks to have a solid bar for the middle so it may work better. I now have a $40 c-clamp~ish style one from autozone and it works great. Pulled a couple heads apart with it.

Under chassis brace
OlderThanMe replied to cygnusx1's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
http://www.zcar.com/forums/read/12/1883074 Stupid prices but the idea seems like it would work with some more reinforced X braces that won't flex... -
Hmm... Somehow I didn't catch that you took the pics...LOL Thanks Tony for the info! Pics of the combustion chambers would be great if you wouldn't mind. Would you happen to know the outcome of said head?
-
I used to get confused about which heads had what kind of combustion chambers. I thought I'd create a thread with pics of different combustion chambers showing differences and describing each different head. E88, 260Z spec This is an open chamber head meaning that there are no quench pads. It has rectangular exhaust runners. Intake runners are NOT notched for fuel injectors Notice decent unshrouding by intake valve. I'm pretty sure that this is OE but I'm not sure. As pulled from motor: Maxima N47 (A.K.A. MN-47) Comes on the 1981-1984 Maximas that are gas powered. Outside can be easily identified by the N47 marking AND a threaded hole right behind the #5 spark plug. The MN-47 will NOT work on a L24 block without eyebrowing the bores. A L26 block can be substituted since it is IDENTICAL to an L24 block but with eyebrowed bores. The MN-47 has 38-39.5CC combustion chambers. Supposedly there are different size chambers but I think most of them are straight 39CC. The MN-47 is not generally suitable for a turbo application unless pistons with a very large dish are used to lower compression. Exhaust runners have cast-in round steel liners that should flow decently well. Intake runners ARE setup for fuel injectors. Close up on combustion chamber: MYSTERY DOHC Z head Nothing is known about this head from the guys I have talked to. Note "Paeco" on casting. "Paeco" in Alabama states that they know nothing about this head. I'll update with more pics as I assemble them. Others feel free to add pics and descriptions.

I figured that it is about time for an update. Yesterday I went to the local JY and got some parts for my VH45. I scored a water pump for $3 and it looks as if it has never been used. Who knows how much Infinity would have charged for a water pump...Probably $90. I also got the # 1,2,7,8 short intake runners. Now I have 8 short runners rather than 4 long and 4 short ones. looks something like this now: I have gotten rid of most of the useless emissions stuff but still have some work to do to finish cleaning up the motor. This VH45 has 120k miles on it and since it is in good shape I imagine that with boost it will last about 8k miles. Then I'll rebuild it with forged pistons, bearings, and seals. I think 450 horsepower (around .5 bar boost) should do me good while building the roll cage and reinforcements before upping the boost. If anyone needs a 90mm throttle body I have an extra... -
Under chassis brace
OlderThanMe replied to cygnusx1's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I just saw it the other day. Someone is selling a set of frame rails like the bad-dog ones but it has an X-brace that covers the bottom of the car. The X brace looked pretty flimsy though since it was just flat sheet metal with no bends in it... I'll find the link. OTM -

Hmm... I was up under my Z before I got it running off of the fuel tank and was trying to clean out the output line from the gas tank. I sprayed carb cleaner down the line and it shot straight back out into my eye. A good ounce or two...

From what I have heard only the VQ40 had the 6 speed. I almost bought a 2005 Fronty with the QR25 but ended up getting a 2004 Fronty VG33/5 speed for a little cheaper. (more low end torque for hauling engines around...)

Blue foam for fiberglass mold ? what is it
OlderThanMe replied to gretchen/jason's topic in Fabrication / Welding
About that insulation spray foam... Don't get it on anything! including skin!!! It is almost impossible to get off. I used two cans of it to ship a crankshaft to a member here and I got it all over me and my garage floor. Probably the stickiest stuff ever invented! It's expensive too at $5 a can for what you get out of it.
