  1. oh crap...Phil is going to beat both of us in the $$$$ invested part...lol I have almost that much in my piece of junk already... I LOVE that BOV PHIL!!!! I don't think many people have done that kind of boost on a stock block...Maybe it is because your car is actually tuned properly! Welcome to the HBZ smackdown!
  2. The VQ40DE looks like a really good motor... It gets basically the same gas mileage as my 04' VG33e powered crew cab. A main difference is the rear suspension has the leaf springs over the axle instead of under so it sits a little higher... At the Nissan dealership I saw a 2007 bright yellow nismo 4x4 frontier crew cab with the VQ40DE and I WANTED IT!!! The price was a bit too high though.
  3. my first attempt at making rustoleum shine... with aluminum polish and a rag...

    Low?

umm...coilovers full down with no motor or tranny...

Center divider now powdercoated satin black. Square aircraft guages on the way!!!

    my ghillie suit

It took about 20 hours to build... It's fun when people walk within 10 feet of you and then get a round in the back... In Paintball of course.
  7. I concur with Paul... I replaced my ignition box with a stock replacement MSD unit and The change was AMAZING! It was like it was a new car... It still popped after a rev but that was from poorly tuned SUs. At idle it ran perfectly smooth all the way up around 7k. Mind you that is on a L26, roundtop SUs, 11.5 Lb flywheel, MSD5900 unit, L24 flat-top pistons, mystery header-2.5" exhaust, and the stock E88 head with the "C" cam... Before replacing the ignition unit it stuttered at idle. When I stepped on the throttle at lower RPMs in 2nd or 3rd it would pop and lose power for a second or so when the engine was cold. Another thing to check is under the dist. cap and see if any of the electrodes or rotor cap are really dirty. That can cause problems too. All is better with the new ignition..
  8. I had thought about doing that gulf theme with rustoleum "sail blue" and the orange color. The local Lowes never carried the sail blue in a can. Just the rattle can.
  9. Ever since we started doing these sketches of Zs with open front fenders I have seen several cars running around with open front fenders like on that S2K...grrr...
  10. Phil... I love the 240Z taillights! I am looking at geting a pair for my 260Z as well as a wooden steering wheel...I have that aluminium dash though. It will lok much better with a nice wooden Nardi or similar metal/wood steering wheel. Right now my 260 has the stock ugly zx-ish type steering wheel.
  11. Yeah the L6 block has a LOT of texture...I spent a couple hours with the grinder/flap disc smoothing the big areas of mine... And then another hour cleaning out all the dust and metal particles out of the block... It was still dirty after that!!! Mirror black should look great!
  12. Streetability... That is why I love turbos.. You can just run around town under boost and then when you want to go fast you use the skinny switch. My L6 is a pain to drive because it is like an on/off switch where you are accelerating or decelerating...
  13. That's a weird "Tron" pic there Max...lol By 2010 I may only have a junkyard longblock in the car with my turbo system but the built block will be on the stand being built... I guess I'll have to keep the power around 400 with the 302 block. *don't want to split the block in half or throw a rod..* Eventually wolf is in the plans...I just have to get all the funds together. It just takes soo much $$$$ to have an all forged V8...With a L6 all you need is pistons and then you are all forged. not so with the crappy cast american internals... Lots of guys I have seen run a stupid high CR on their turbo V8s for some reason. Most L6 guys stop around 8.5:1 but there are V8s running 9.5:1 and decently high boost?!?! what's with that!?
  14. hmm...who said anything about a lack in quality? I won't build a crappy motor at all.. I know that my block is going to be built for when I step up with the big power adders... I don't know if you could compare a non-streetable 572 to a very streetable 302/351 like what I am looking at... And we are talking well over 500hp here... I think our little race should be fun! Maybe at SEZ or some other big Z convention in the southeast. It *COULD* possibly turn into a HBZ shootout...you never know...
  15. small budgets=small blocks=still crazy fast Zs... My Z is going to mainly be for road racing so light weight and balance are more important than pure cubes... 300-350 cubes+15-ish PSI+2500lb car=fun
  16. I guess we could let Fuzzy in... If it is covered in black fur...
  17. Also check out a Ford Explorer valve...Like $16 for the valve and then yo need an actuator... It's a really cool little piece.
  18. That would ALMOST make it worth staying L6...
  19. It has been discussed... It is time to post it for the world to see... Time: 2010 (enought time for us mere mortals to build the cars to be fast) reason: We are planning similar buildups with similar limited budgets... We are both younger than our cars... Because we can... Veritech-Z: single turbo, 350 SBC 280Z OTM: twin T3's (that is what I am saying), 302/351 SBF 260Z (this probably will change, looking at a big L series based build now) Let the competition begin cloud contest (all y'all oregonites are invited to judge) road race drag race blah blah... you get the idea. Who else wants in that is getting ready to start their build?
  20. aha...another person has powdercoated their engine block! J/k... Did you coat it your favorite color Mike? I used the red tube (astroglide?) of stuff from autozone and I really liked it while putting my block back together. It's fairly easy to clean off of your hands too. Good luck with getting your motor back together! Dan
  21. hehe...Just broke past 2000... Yeah I am pretty well recovered by now. I broke my jaw on Oct. 6th of 06... I'm back up to my proper weight but with way more muscle. I've run about 7500 stairs with 55-60lbs in my backpack...THAT will make your legs balloon with muscle!
  22. If you want to spend the time you can get a show quality smoothness out of it. (See the pic of my hood bulge) I got that little area to a silky smooth, flat, wave free shine but it took a LOOOONGGGG time. I'm probably going to end up with an olive drab green rattlecan until I finish bodywork. (ie super wide aluminium fenders, big body mods, etc...)
