RON! how is the car leaning the wrong way in that drift!?!?!? I didn't know you were into drifting!! Was it some sort of Uber active suspension??
J/K there Ron...
TimZ's valve cover was the inspiration!!!
Hopefully mine will be like that tomorrow!
I am debating removing "Datsun OHC" from the valve cover...that would be sorta cool.
Notice the lack of a Nissan or Japan insignia...ground off...
I smoothed most of the block with a grinder with 80 and 120 grit flap discs. The area of the oil passages on the passenger side was a lot harder metal than elsewhere on the block?!?!?
I had the hardest time smoothing that section out.
yeah...Maybe I'll try my hand at some PC'ing tomorrow so you can work on your extensive list of brakes to do. I'd like to try it on some of the misc. little engine parts I have left to do...
Yes, clear too. We were going to clear the block but decided not too. I mean it is an engine block! not anything really fancy. The valve cover will get some clear though and so will a couple other pieces.
Awesome Mike!!!
When you look at the block from an angle it is not all blue-ish...It is all varied like around the edges. 75% of the time was cleaning and the rest was letting it bake and getting the beast of a motor in/out of the oven.
I'll see if I can get my cell phone pics on the web somewhere.
WOOHOO!!!!
Just got the block PC'd and it looks SAWEET!!!!!
YAHOO!!!
It is still baking so maybe Mike can post a pic when it is done!
I forgot my camera and got some pics of the base chrome coat but that is nothing compared to the prismatic black!!!
Well for now I am staying high compression L26...
But I am getting a 289 from a buddy for $30!! Less than what I paid for my MN47 head!!
Anyway this engine needs a full rebuild but the crank and rods are in great shape. The block will need a 1mm or so overbore to clean things up a bit. So I'll swap in some forged pistons and find a GOOD set of heads and build some turbo manifolds...for a single turbo 289...
This build will take a LONG time but it will be worth it.
wish me luck!!
A couple things...
I weld with two hands all the time. Use your left arm(assuming you weld right handed) to make a support and slide your right hand across your left arm as you weld. Keep your left arm at least 4" away from where you are welding.
Before you run a bead make sure you have a free range of movement in the direction you are going to weld.
I am looking at a Miller synchrowave 200 AC/DC TIG/STICK welder...That means ALUMINUM BABY!!! It is only $1700 as well!
I look at www.cyberweld.com
lots of good prices.
You know Miller has discontinued the MM175 and introduced the MM180 as a slight redesign. Not like it is a big deal or anything...
It looks like you got a GREAT deal on that welder!!
