  1. you could make it just a front end bolt on...the fenders aren't too much different than stock. I'll try to do a decent sketch of a spoiler tonight and base it off of photos of my Z so that it could be realistically done. I may even get up on the roof and get a top shot of my Z to sketch up...
  2. meh... and the vent-ish thing is some sort of oil cooler thingy...I guess. Just playing with ideas there. A different hood bulge as well.
  3. who is Michael? *edit* Oops...never mind:eek2: I'll go scan my sketch now...it looks too familiar...I'll try to come up with something new tonight.
  4. I'm going to the junkyard tomorrow since they just got a bunch of early 80's maximas and a 280zx...the zx motor is spoken for but I was planning on stripping the maximas of their MN47s and if I get lucky one will be a diesel. If there is a diesel I'll buy the whole motor for myself... I just wanted to see in advance if there was any interest. Also if there are any other small things I should look for let me know... If the zx has a 5 speed and I may get that...it just depends if it is a turbo ZX or not...
  5. Or maybe they got a different batman than us...
  6. I am about done with a sketch that I did at work tonight. The spoiler is just about like that janspeed one. What if the spoiler was filled in so that the whole top of the spoiler was flat up to the rear window. Like if you just filled the whole spoiler with something and made the top flat. Just an idea...
  7. Do the dimples on the dish lip match up with the dimples on the head? It seems like they would.
  8. ouch dude!! so what could that have been? How many miles are on the bearings? this is a standard size bearing from my motor that was supposedly an oiling problem(low oil from leaky motor and one big over-rev). Could it have been another casting imperfection that came out of your head?
  9. notice that if you look close that it appears that the flow seperates about 2/3 of the way down the hatch.
  10. I think this testing should be for cars that are track cars that are still "streetable"...that way we still have a good viewpoint to look from. We aren't doing full blown race cars or everyday drivers...cars with decent (175-275 lb/in) spring rates and 3"+ of ground clearance. just another of my 2 cents.
  11. There have been many pics of race cars going over a hill with a slight turn and getting 10 feet of air and landing off the track. I am guessing what you described BJ is what happened to these cars.
  12. Boodlefoof's sketch Boodlefoof has done a good little writeup on Z's aerodynamics. Pretty much basics but it is still good stuff.
  13. great read on reducing drag!! Here are some of my sketches from a while back that should help with aerodynamics...some are original to me and others aren't. GT40-ish front end...would look a bit odd. a clean-ish front end would be a big time pusher. * I came up with this widebody and the hood vents* I think this above one could be modified like a front end like the Janspeed Z or similar to the Gnose to extend the hood down and foreward. Something like this E-type-ish Z would make airflow a lot smoother over the front of the Z's foreward body. Maybe a bigger scraper to cover the tire would be in order.. Something like this below sketch would be good for road racing. Whale tail and closed up front end. *This is basically a modified standard front air dam and JCR type flares* I'll do a new sketch tonight just for this thread...Critique and suggestions welcome for a new sketch...
  14. ah..I had the same problem...lol just play with it for a little while.. The wires go from the outer holes and go under the pad retention bar as far outboard from the rotor as possible. I'll see if I have a pic...If not I'll go take one for you.
  15. I am not saying that what is being done here won't help on the highway... Just doing wind tunnel testing for MPG on a street car won't be cost efficient. Mike's idea is interesting... Here is a good read on reducing drag... http://www.tfd.chalmers.se/~lelo/rvad/reports/rva2002_gr10_drag-reducing.pdf
  16. THIS TESTING IS NOT FOR 70MPH CRUISING ON THE HIGHWAYS!!! Why would we spend multiple thousands of dollars to pick up 1-4 mpg on a 30+ year old car?!?!?! The testing(IMO) should be for how to make a S30Z have best performance on a road racing track with a top speed around 150-160 (400hp). All that without extensive body mods (spoilers, belly pans, fender ducting, front end designs, add on vortex generators, etc... are what we should look at). I think once we go past the point of fixing the body we have to work with you might as well design a new body...then you would not have a Z any more... You would have your V8 powered Z car with a really nice areodynamic body on it with the crappy Z frame and suspension(struts, T/C rods, bump steer etc..), you might as well design a new car. My 2 cents... Maybe someone should start a thread about ideas of how to improve the S30Z's body without going to the extreme...
  17. The E88 heads have square exhaust ports. The P90 has them too. The P79 has round ports but is otherwise like the P90.
  18. I don't like it just because it is soo darn hard to work on...I mean it is an 86.. A 70s 914-6 would be nice to fix up though..
  19. My L26 was setup with flattops (I think they had dished pistons stock?) so it was around 8.8:1 which was way fun! Stock was like 8.3:1 for the L26.
  20. I think those rear flares with the black dragon front flares would be a killer combo!!!
