  1. Ernie: I have illuminas and sourced my coilover parts from a couple NASCAR-type venders. I think I have $800 in it all together with the "brian's garage" top spring mounts. Soon enough I'll be doing camber plates and some real upper spring mounts. If I reacall correctly I spent $125 or so on the threaded collars and nuts from A1racing.com and $120 on the QA1 springs from Summit. The welding was all free (I was in welding school at the time) because I did it.
  2. I am soo cutting the rear pan off of my Z and adding fat mudflaps along with a little diffuser. And an open exhaust after the turbo...Maybe some little mud tires too...I am going to annoy the heck out of everyone in town... The quattros have the best sounding BOVs!!!!
  3. Yeah on3go's laguna seca blue was pretty close to petty blue.
  4. It's a bypass valve so when the second turbo spools and pulls a vacuum on the first turbo it will open up and bypass air around the first turbo. It could be microprosessor controled or hooked up mechanically to a vacuum switch. Pretty good solution to the airflow limiting problem with the high pressure turbo I think. 2 and 3 are just wastegates.
  5. Here is a sketch I did of a CTS (Consecutive Turbo System)
  6. Lunar: don't just turn up the flow...that is honda thinking...Just crank it up and it will work better. NOT SO!!! If you crank it up too far for that particular size nozzle you will get turbulance and will get oxygen in contact with hot (red hot) tungsten...not good. You will need to back purge it.
  7. Well Pizza deleveries got a little slow tonight for a little while so I drew this: It is my sequential turbo idea but the header would work for a single turbo as well. Justin: that collector looks great! Volvo L5?
  8. I know...They just have to allow it now... I found a source for some holset flow charts so when the FAQ goes up I will add them in.
  9. I am trying to get a sticky FAQ started with the holset maps and information... The admins just have to approve it now. Maybe tomorrow or sometime this week. Some of the holset maps on here have since gone bye bye.
  10. Yeah outflowing the stocker should be pretty easy. Hopefully I can get some money saved up and this summer during my break get my motor build started and buy a little TIGGER. I may just be able to get all my manifold pieces cut and take it to a shop and have it welded. I have no idea what the cost would be but I am guessing it would be in the $500+ range depending on how complex it is. I would make it with very close length runners. I have a couple designs I have been playing with. I could make a log manifold with staggered tube sizes pretty cheap I am guessing . I think that is a pretty good price since having a custom header built will cost you $2000+
  11. COOL!!! Do you have a veilside RX7? Those things are awesome!!!
  12. Ernie, I can imagine it providing some power gains on a car with anotherwise open exhaust. Maybe with a bullet muffler but if you put a turbo muffler or glasspack then the megaphone would be counteracted by restricting the exhaust. Would something like this help with a turbo powered car evacuate gasses? With an N/A motor it would be more critical than a turbo one I would think. Maybe I'll make a new thread about them... Rally celica
  13. I posted that one in higher quality in the first pikes peak one I listed... VERY COOL!!!
  14. I think a big thing with going at high speeds is having a good suspension. I would not have a second thought about going to 150 with my coilovers and illuminas on a RACE TRACK when I reinforce the body not to flop around. I just need the motor and gearing...
  15. Since I am planning a turbo build with the exact same limitations as group B...Here are some group B-ish videos. What is cool is you can drive these cars in video games now...they handle like poo but make enough power you never drive straight down the road (or goat path). nice vid: V6 escort: pikes peak: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9q845WtC5I http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhrFrakytjU Colin McRae totally abusing a Metro GR4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e01xeFetv_g
  16. What the Heck!!! Too bad I missed this while I was at college... That 6x6 is pretty cool. I'd drive it. this thing is insane!
  17. When I went that quick I had stock soft springs and a couple blown strut inserts. I am sure that my poly airdam was folding under at those high speeds...lol I haven't driven the car more than turning it around in the street since I put the home depot lip on. Edit* I had smaller wheels and tires on the car too when I went that fast.
  18. Now with the home depot lip... With the engine on the car it has about 2" of clearance. I just need to reinforce it and seal off the top. The car has 26" tall tires so lowering the car is not that easy. It is about 1" lower than in the top pic right now.
  19. Well since it is pretty much impossible to find any graphs for any holset I figured that I would write this FAQ so that all the Holset info is in one place. The HY35W seems to be the turbo of choice for several L6 Z guys. Here are some graphs and charts. From what I have seen they are good to around 550 horsepower. The graph shows what holsets came when on the dodge trucks. Then there are three pics of a HX-35 that has aftermarket parts on it. Specifically an aftermarket 38mm internal wastegate and aftermarket wheels. The picture with the measuring tape is a HY35(W) Companies dealing with Holsets Upgrades proper cool down times for a holset turbo This is from the Ram Service Manual Stop & Go, Load - Empty, Turbocharger temp - Cool, Idle Time...Less than 1 min. 20. That sounds right. I guess since we mostly focused on structural type welding that is what we heard. I guess it is different on thinner stuff. Thanks for the info there John! I feel enlightened!
  21. hmm...My instructor always told us that since Stick (SMAW) required less welds for the same strength weld there was less of a HAZ than the same size weld than for TIG.
  22. the level of drag is not so bad because most of us have the power to overcome the drag that a Z has. It is the dreaded lift that is not fun. With my old suspension I had the car way too fast at around 120 (guage said 140:-P) and the car was about to fly. 6500rpms in a 1:1 4th gear with a 3.54 rear end and 215/60r14 tires. It was scary. With all my illuminas, 225f/250r coilovers lowered 2", and 225/60r15 tires I have taken it to about 90 and it felt more stable than 45mph with the older setup
