Wow! That site is pretty cool. http://www.metalshapers.org/ !M!

I don't have my MSA book in front of me, BUT I can tell you that the reason there is a difference in part numbers for the first gen. Z car is because of the turn signals. Early Z's had them below the bumper, later Z's had them in the grill. Look at the pictures, you'll see what I mean. I never mounted one of those, but I'm pretty sure they do not mount to the bumper. There is one airdam sold by MSA that DOES require you to take off the old bumper though, maybe that's where the guy was getting screwed up? !M!

You said boobs. !M!

Whoops, it was late or very early however you look at it . Yes the strut housing takes the weight of the car (motioning my hand over my head with the sound of a plane ). I know that the gland nut didn't back off, because I tightened it down and it was about 1/16" from bottoming out on the strut housing, so I gave it a extra turn just for the heck of it untill it stopped. When I looked at it, the gland nut was still bottomed out on the housing. I think like you say, the cart. was off center a bit and moved a little. The cart. did have 3/32" of play in it, that's still quite a bit though. !M!

The power antenna on my '73 broke a couple of years ago, so I replaced it with one of those cheap $5 manual ones, which I hated to do but I wanted to hear tunes once in a while. I would have to keep it extended at all times, because it would rattle if it was retracted . Well, when I was coming back from the Buick Nationals I visited Lewis Maudlin to pick up my glass fenders and headlight buckets. While I was there he threw in a power antenna unit that he didn't know if it worked or not. Today I got the itch to play with something that would exercise my mind a little, so I took my old power antenna unit and the one Lewis gave me and sat down to pull them apart. Took the better pieces of the two and made one good one. Cleaned and lubed the sucker up with white lithium grease and tested it... holy crap does that thing move! Never saw a power antenna move up and down as fast as this one. Not kidding you, it takes about two seconds for it to fully extend and just a hair over a second for it to retract. If you need something to do and your power antenna is too damn slow, don't look at buying a new $75 power antenna, just take apart your old one, clean it up (don't forget the crap that builds up on the motor), lube it, reassemble and enjoy the new life you gave to your power antenna. Both antenna's had a lot of rust and crap inside of them, I can only imagine what others must look like inside them. If you do this, make sure you get a new cotter pin for the antenna rod or do like I did and get a thicker cotter pin and drill out the hole on the antenna rod to accept it and you won't have the thing snapping off on ya leaving the antenna lifeless. Yeah, so I was a little bored today, but it's the little things, you know? !M!

Yup, sounds like the gland nut. I can only imagine what kind of noise that is making while you drive it . Just watch that you're not holding your suspension to the car by the brake lines when you jack it up, that's a lot of weight for that line to hold. On my pass. rear suspension, the gland nut was tight and the suspension was fine, but over a 100 miles or so I started to get a clunking noise and couldn't figure out what it was at first. It got louder and louder the longer I drove it driving me NUTS! I just couldn't find the time to work on it untill a few days ago. Turns out the strut cart. was bouncing around inside the strut tube. I have no idea how the heck that happened. Had to put another washer on the inside of the strut tube to make it tight again. Nothing lossened (sp?) up... still scratching my head on this one. Paul Felker and I were talking and he mentioned that the bottom of the strut tube is slightly convex and with the weight of the car, it just bent the few washers down inside the strut tube allowing for the strut cart. to move up and down. Sorry to steal this thread... but has anyone else had something similar to this happen? I guess it could happen, there is about 600 lbs. on those washers while the car is at rest, who knows what they encounter while I'm driving it. !M!

Just a thought, my buddy has a complete 455 sitting on an engine stand if you need measurements. The R230 came in the Infinity Q45 and the late model 300ZX (90-96) in 3.70 and 3.54 ratios I believe. If you want, just do a search on "R230" and you will come up with enough information to keep you busy for a while . It all depends on what you want, LSD, VLSD, or an open diff., and what gears you want. Quite a few combinations to get you what you want. As for the cage install, look here: http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7813&highlight=roll+cage+mounting There is some good information there for ya. Just remember, the search button is like GOLD. My GN engine install is coming along, the only thing I need now is an intercooler and I'm set to drop it in. I wanted to get all the parts I needed before I droped the engine in so I could still drive it around and enjoy the nice upgraded suspension, which by the way turns this car like nothing else I've driven before, makes for some very spirited driving .

Now you made me smile . Don't think about it, do it! Anywho, you should take some measurements of the engine first though before you go all nutty with this. I would say roll cage and sub frame connectors should keep it from twisting. The R200 should hold up, but there is always the R230. As for the other stuff !M!

Went over to Golden Gernsey (sp?) in town here and parked the Z on the scales. Car wieghed 2380 lbs. without driver and with 5/8 tank of fuel. Not to shabby considering I have some heavy @ss wheels and thicker, heavier sway bars. When I get the new engine in there I'm also putting on my glass fenders, so when it's able to drive I'm going to take it back to the scale and see what happens !M!

Went to the Buick Nationals this past week and I got to meet Derek with the brown colored 240GNZ. WOW is that sucker quick! He was knocking off mid 10 second passes without a problem. The 280ZX turbo CV's held up fine to some wicked launches on those motorcycle slicks. Seeing Dereks GNZ gave me the added kick in the butt to get mine done faster. The swap is so simple and straight forward, it's unreal. On another note, there was a late model Buick Regal (front wheel drive model) that was running 12.7's!! It has the super charged engine like the GTP. It was just funny to see this thing beat a few stock GN's in the quarter. The car sound's like it has a gear drive flying down the track, pretty loud. He had a smaller pulley on the SC, a "the other guys" (I think that was what it was called) header and a few other goodies, but other than that it had stock internals with over 90K on the ticker. Now that engine is a good canidate to throw into a Z car. !M!
-
Oh you know you just want to throw the big block Buick in there! It should fit... LOTS of twist from that engine Come on, DO IT!!! You know you want to . Yes, I am a fan of the BBB Wow, I have to lay off the coffee. !M!

You should run high 11's low 12's in the quarter. Get yourself some drag radials for the strip. Not sure on the wheels though. What did the ZX come with stock 15" or 16" wheels? I took my Z down to Da Grove for shitz and giggles and ran a pitifull 16.9. It was like the car would get moving, then the power would taper off at ~4500 rpms. I had to short shift it, because I didn't want to wait and see if it would even hit redline. With my Z weighing 2560 with me in it and 5/8 of a tank of fuel with the stock L24 putting out ~160 horse (G-Tech) the thing should have run a mid-high 14. When I brought the Z back to storage I found that one of the throttle linkages, those little plastic sockets snapped in half right at the threads and was hanging on by just a hair... no wonder the car just petered out, the throttle was not opening up all the way. I'm just supprised I made it home without it busting off. Never even saw that when I was checking the car over before going to the track. Guy, You should come to the Olympics of Drag Racing at Da Grove May 24-25. Funny cars, Outlaw Pro mods, Pro stocks, LOTS OF JETS!!, Chicago Wiseguys and LOTS MORE! You just can't miss this one. !M!

You wouldn't happen to want to make a video on how you make these look like art, would you? Actually, it would be neat to have a pro show you how to do it from start to finish. Love your work. !M!
-
Where's the starter? You know, we can just make a bigger Z car to fit that in, shouldn't be to hard for one of us . How often can you step inside your engine to work on it? !M!

Actually, my buddy is the one with the license. I am just now able to start taking lessons here at Waukesha County airport A.K.A. Crites field. The 172 is just the plane we like to rent. Hey, do you go to the EAA Fly-in in Oshkosh? I love going to that. Sorry, I don't know a Terry Moneith. !M!
-
Ahh, you BASTARD! Sounds like a lot of fun . My buddy and I go flying but you can't exactly pull some G's in a Cesna 172. That trainer is the one that you sit side by side in, right? !M!
-
Doh! Well, you have your name on the picture, so I figured... !M!
-
That sucks! That's the reason I carry a fire extinguisher in my Z and in my truck, because you just never know what might happen. Just be happy that you and your friend got out without being engulfed in flames. !M!

Douglas, Do you have any pictures of your progress? !M!

No, your wheels will not fall off. You can purchase the adaptors here at Modern Motorsports !M![/url]

Anyone have historical/classic car licence plates?
CruxGNZ replied to Dave240Z's topic in Non Tech Board
If you get historical or collector plates, then you are saying that your car is stock, not modified, not changed from factory. Per the DMV you are supposed to get hobbiest plates is you futz with your car. I e-mailed the DMV and she told me that nobody really enforces the whole collector plate/hobbiest plate issue. I should have hobbiest plates, BUT then my insurance would go way up, I mean come on, the $63 I pay for a year of full coverage is kill'n me here !M! -
Looks similar to the one that was on mine until a 'coon wanted a closer look... anyways, seems to be a BRE style, but not so straight and blocky looking. Owen probably knows, Owen? Here's a pic of my broken air dam that came with my Z, I have no idea who makes it but it doesn't look like anything that I have found in any catalog yet. !M!
-
There's this guy I know of that has a white Z just like mine, I guess that since he lives in a controlled county that requires emissions, he just told them that the car is kept up north were there is no emission testing. The DMV bought it because he said that he doesn't have to go in for emissions ever again. Gosh golly darnit, I wish stuff like that would happen to a guy like me... !M!
