  1. Hey guys! I'm pretty sure my injector clips are bad and I am going to try to replace them tomorrow, I am really just looking for a little encouragement! Here's the car: 1973 240Z, new, rebuilt L28ET, new T3, 1984 Z31 Turbo ECU/chopper wheel/ignitor/coil, new O2 sensor, N42 manifold with everything ground off and the manifold smoothed, L28ET fuel rail and injectors (with good O-rings) and I got all (almost) the electronics working in one day! Here's what it does: the car seems to run weak and miss a little bit. It is weak to the point where it is impossible to do more than take it around the block. When off, if I push the injector wires down really hard and wiggle them around then start the car it will sound very smooth and strong, and have great throttle response, but as soon as I start driving it goes back to how it was. Did I mention all of the clips on my wiring harness are busted and will no longer clip to the injector? Well now I did!! So, my next step is to go find myself some new injector clips and put them in. If anyone else has any suggestions or anything else I might check, please let me in on it! I have to drive this car about 800 miles on Monday and it is my only form of transportation, damn military!!
  2. Alright, the ZG's are mounted! Here are some pics: That's the L28ET under the plastic, just got it back from the machine shop today!
  3. Well, I cut away the fenders today for the ZG's. Here are some pics: Oops!!!
  4. Just one more pic for now, all masked off and ready to cut away at the fenders for the ZG's:
  5. Well, I'll start this off letting everyone know that I am pretty forgetful about taking pictures of everything. I get too excited about throwing everything together! Here's basically what I've got and what's going in the car: Freshly rebuilt L28ET with a forged bottom end and all ARP fasteners Fresh T3 turbo (with plans to go to a bigger one later) 1984 300ZX Turbo ECU (and supporting hardware, plans to add NisTune later) Big intercooler MSA downpipe 17x8 Motegi TrakLite II wheels powder coated black ZG Fiberglass flares ...and it all has to be done by the 29th of this month! OK, so anywho, here are some pictures: MSA downpipe, 300ZX ECU, Autometer boost gauge T3, new clutch Intercooler Motegi TrakLite II's L28ET valve cover, freshly powder coated Gotta get started right, with a Bud Light! Stripped down L24, ready to pull The 240Z it's going in to, and my buddy's twin turbo. Getting ready to put it on the trailer to take it to have the ZG's put on. That's all for now!
  6. Well this is an engine I swapped in after it had sat around in a guys back yard for a year, weather and all; ports totally exposed. I don't want to waste time swapping the head gasket out as I am putting in a new engine soon and I don't feel like wasting most of a day doing it (working about 80 hours a week right now). I'm pretty sure I was going lean and I wasn't being very nice to the engine at all. I have since richened my mixture up slightly and taken the timing back a little to prevent further damage.
  7. Yeah, I remember reading that post. He gunked up his pick up and ruined his engine. I don't really mind if the engine leaks oil or anything, it's not a problem to add more. I'm just trying to ensure that the engine makes it a few more weeks so I don't have to trailer the car home to Oregon (I'm stationed in California) to put the new engine in.
  8. So I'm pretty sure I blew my head gasket. Losing coolant, and there is oil leaking down the side of the block from between the head and block. Anyways, I am pulling this motor to replace with a freshly rebuilt L28 in less than three weeks when it gets out of the machine shop, and I don't want to mess with the L24 at all really! My question is this: Does anyone have experience with using a sealer, like this: http://www.barsproducts.com/1100.htm Seems like garbage, but if it will hold me together for a few weeks then that's all it really needs to do. Does anyone have any advice about using this sealer or one that is similar?
  9. Well, he seems like an enthusiast at least.
  10. I was getting off the CA 60 a few minutes ago turning left on to Pigeon and I had a guy in a white Sentra pull up and start asking me about my Z, he also mentioned that he has a 280ZX turbo. If you're a member here, name yourself! And to make this thread worthwhile for everyone: Do you ever get people asking you about your car while you're out cruising around? If so, do you make an effort to stop and talk to them and find out if they are a member here or anything?
  11. Congratulations, you seem to be building the first good looking 2+2!
  12. Yes it is all a direct bolt on. I think the L24E has a different oil pan though, but you will be swapping that as well if you are converting it to a turbo.
  13. Well, this does not surprise me at all.
  14. OK, well the car is running decent again. It seems that I was running really lean and the spark plugs did not like it (the were all really white when I pulled them). I think you are right about the distributor being off a bit, and I will verify this with a timing light as soon as I get a chance.
  15. Well, I bought one, but won't be running it in my car until June when I swap in my new L28. It sure looks pretty, though.
  16. Ugh, to fix that you need to take off the front cover, correct? My cam timing was off when I first got the engine, maybe the timing chain slipped and I need to correct it again... My coolant and oil both look good after putting over 200 miles on the car in the last two days so the head gasket is possibly leaky at worst, and I doubt it would cause these kind of problems.
  17. Hey guys! I recently swapped a different L24 in to my 240Z (warped the head on the original one and it was cheaper to simply replace the engine). Anyways, I've had the car running alright for a few weeks now, under some kind of weird settings. For the car to run right, the distributor must be set at full advance, which seems wrong. The car will not run right until it has warmed up. I reset the SU carburetors (~3 turns for the mixture, ~2.5 turns for throttle plate - choke is hooked up). I know this is probably not an optimal setup but it seems to run ok, especially when warm. An odd problem though, is that the exhaust manifold has a noticeable glow at night when it is dark. Coolant temps are fine. Anyways, tonight, I was driving up a hill, in fifth gear at about 50MPH, the engine was under some load and it backfired (well, it sounded like the same backfire it gets constantly while I'm waiting for it to warm up from a cold start). After this, the car wanted to backfire from a stop, and under high load at low RPMs, and also was down on power. Was it possible that this "backfire" was really a knock or something and I blew out the headgasket? Any other ideas? I haven't been able to check my coolant or oil or anything because it's dark out, but I will definitely investigate tomorrow. I'm just looking for some advice as to what it could be before I start looking. Keeping my fingers crossed, this engine only needs to last me until I swap in my freshly rebuilt, forged, badass L28 in June. Thanks, guys! Cameron
  18. Sounds like some rice.
  19. Very sexy car but what's with the stock bumpers?
  20. Happy birthday Dave I hope that widebody Z is treating you well!
  21. It's an accelerant though. If there is a small fire, nitrous will cause it to become a large fire very quickly.
  22. That's something a crazy or paranoid person would do.
  23. Any explanation to go along with this picture?
