  1. are you sanding it smooth after every coat? You should be able to just do a quick scuff for each coat then do the final sanding all the way smooth. I'm not sure if your doing that, but it would go pretty fast that way, because this stuff does take awhile to get smooth and polished.
  2. That money is going straight into a Lt1, t56 combo . I can make my own exhaust and mounts now, so the driveshaft will be the only outsourced job (hopefully) with alot of help from people here.
  3. thanks, it really made my day when I got all this sorted out.
  4. edit: Well, I got hold of a electrician and the previous owner of the house, and the only reason the plug didn't meet code was because it wasn't mounted in the wall. It's all hooked up now, and I just talked to the guy at the welder supply and he said a 50amp breaker is fine because the welder itself has a overload protection, even with a long extension cord it will be fine. So that relieved alot of stress, now I can go pick up the mm175 and burn some metal here's the setup now, it's all hooked up and ready to be turned on.
  5. I was looking at the specs for the mm135, and it says it draws MORE amps than the 175. the 175 draws 19.5, and the 135 draws the full 20 amps... So how could I run a 135 on a normal house outlet that has a 20 amp breaker? It wouldn't be any more portable than the 175, unless u have a 30 amp circuit on all your normal outlets. Can anyone clear that up?
  6. about $1000 is the quote to change the whole panel.......I don't know, might end up having to buy a mm135 instead so I can just use it in any outlet.
  7. By the way, I'm buying the welder from the local welding supply, there price is only like 30 more than ebay prices, plus they'll have all the support and parts, and a 80cu full cylinder is $160. I'm sure they'll throw in some wire and maybe a helmet.
  8. I think you were right. We called the previous owner of the house, and he said the 250v 50amp line didn't meet code when the inspector came, so it's disconnected (somthing about it being below the breaker?). What should I do? How much should it be to have a new breaker installed so I can have a 230v welder? I could probably do the work if I made sure the electricity was off. lol. Should I just get an electrician for a quote? thats a bummer, i thought it was all setup.
  9. my sisters civic's engine just had to be relaced.. watch out!...lol
  10. My uncle passed away earlier this year. He served in Vietnam for 2 terms, he never wanted to talk about anything to do with it...
  11. NCchris has the right idea..lol My first vehicle was a 90 toyota 4x4, and i blew the transmission and didn't know any better than to have a transmission shop replace it for $2000!!! I coulda bought a transmission and installed it myself for $200. So if you have some time to do the work, it's worth it.
  12. If you spend $800, you could buy a new welder, buy floor pan replacements, and do it yourself and come out with a new welder and the job done. Just my thoughts, because it's not hard work, it's just time consuming and tedious. If your frame is ok, the pans don't have to be perfectly installed as long as there solid, it would be a great job to learn from. I did it on a 54 chevy and had no clue when I started what we were doing, and still don't for that matter.... but it came out fine..lol.
  13. thats about as clean of a install and car as you can get. you should be proud, now go hurt some feeling at a stoplight ;-D (or the track if any cops are looking..lol)
  14. I'm using 2"x1" tube that came from a bunkbed we had in storage...lol. It's gonna be shorter and have the welder tilted back alittle.
  15. I'm making a cart today, I'm using lawnmower wheels for the back, and 2 wheels from a shelf for the front...lol. I don't have the welder yet, but i'm just getting all the pieces cut and fabricated so all I have to do is come in and weld up the joints.
  16. you might wanna grab one of those $20 buffer's from HF, it will save ur arm...lol OTM, after you sand it, what do you clean it with before you roll again?
  17. the rustoleum doesn't scratch off, I was talking about other auto paints that i've used. Within 16 hours of drying they would be easy to scratch, but the rustoleum is already really strong. I'm not sure about the difference when you want to paint galvanized, but it turned out fine. I was really happy with the compressor and paint gun, it only ran about 20% of the time, and I mixed the paint to about the consistancy of whip cream but alittle thinner. It wasn't watery, and it sprayed great. OTM there is one big benefit of regular autopaint, the flash time of 15-30 minuts between coats makes them better in that you can get a whole paintjob done in a day instead of one coat a day. But the overal price and touch up value makes it worth it.
  18. I was thinking 4-5 coats minimum when spraying it. Rolling it looks like it goes on thicker for a single coat. My first coat is still alittle transparent, but it's only been about 16 hours and the paint is already fairly durable. Most other paints I can almost scrape the paint off with a finger nail but this stuff just marks alittle, should be really strong when it's cured. I love the fact that touch up's would be so easy with it. Imagine what you could do with the extra $1500 - $2500 you didn't spend on a paint job.
  19. DO NOT GET A NEGLEGENT DRIVING TICKET! 20mph+ over the limit. it took my insurance from 50 to 120.....and they almost dropped me for good. damn R1 gets me into so much trouble with the cops. it's worth it though.
  20. my friend joined the army last year because he was havin problems at home, and thought he was just gonna be driving a truck in the camp, but he got sent to Afghanistan. He just let us know that his convoy got hit with a IED and he had shrapnel all in his legs. I hate the fact we got all these guys my age over there who should be in school or somthing.
  21. It will be fine, the previous owner who built the house welded alot, so it's all setup, I just have to get the right plug.
  22. I should have asked that question in the first place...lol I'm already gathering up scrap steel so I can weld until I run out of gas, literally
  23. that was fun...lol. I'll be honest, i'd rather roll it on for small jobs because I hate cleaning a paint gun especially with oil based paint that doesn't like to clean up. For a whole car I would spray it, but doing this little piece of sheetmetal is a pain, because i had to clean the gun just now, and i'll have to clean it again when I do every re-coat..lol It would be nice to just roll it, and throw away the roller. The second pic is the best angle I could get a nice reflection, it's only one thin coat and it looks pretty smooth, after 4 coats it would look great, i'll keep coating and then sand it later to see. I mix about 20% mineral spirits and sprayed it.
