  1. No Hollander handy, I called a friend that owns a salvage yard to get my info. Thanks for the reply.
  2. Just bumping this thread for the new members here. Here is a link to the helpers list. http://home.earthlink.net/~hybridz/helpers.html user name, hybridz password, hybridz
  3. I seem to remember someone saying that the s31 or zx hatch seals were not glued in, and that they were a bit thicker than the s30 seal. So, for the hatch you could possibly find some of the s31 seals that havn`t been torn, and use them.
  4. You could do a bone stock 283 2 barrel swap. That would give him some wrenching experience without having the big torque and hp of the larger cid sbc`s, and the car would already be set up for when he gets some driving experience under his belt. WIN/WIN IMO
  5. No, but I own the hood from it. I bought it last fall for 350.00. I don`t know what happened to the rest of the car, but I got the hood from the guy that built the car.
  6. I`m gonna copy it and send it to my wife tommorow when she`s at work
  7. Sounds like a great way to get some quality bonding time to me. I can`t wait until my son is old enough to have a project of his own.
  8. If it`s more than 5 or 6 yrs old, i would replce it with a newer, bigger, more efficient one. I got the BIG 50 gal from Lowes for 350.00 about 5 years ago. I have never run out of hot water and it cost less to run than the 30 gal antique I had before.
  9. Keith, Would you happen to know what the differences are between the early 93 and 94 elantra automatic transaxles? Hollander shows they won`t interchange. I`m wondering if some of the switches or sensors can be swapped to make them compatible. I just want to patch this car up for resale, and don`t want to put a butt load of money in it that I`ll never see again. I found an early 93 car locally for 250.00 that I can drive home. BTW, i pulled the pan off of mine and found some needle bearings and pieces of the bearing cage in the pan
  10. I may have to move the engine forward an inch or so. Would that make any difference in clearance?
  11. What is the maximum diameter of fluid damper I can use with the JTR style conversion? I seem to remember someone saying that there would be clearance problems with an 8", but I couldn`t find any info in my search.
  12. Cool setup ya got there. I like those trusses you`ve got. I have to modify the ones in my garage to a similiar design. I`m planning on installing a hoist too this summer.
  13. Maybe after another 1200 or so posts, I might know how to type.
  14. There are 1248 members that have not posted at all?!? I`m 18th, and average 2.1 posts per day.
  15. NO! Just because a person doesn`t happen to have their entire family with them at any given time, does not mean they don`t usually carry more passengers. Most suv`s in my area have dark tinted window`s making it impossible to tell how many passengers are actually in the car. Small cars are more commonly driven by teens, and more likely to be hauling friends around. They also can`t as easily afford to put gas in an suv, or to buy one in the first place. Any statistic can be manipulated to fit the objective desired, simply by changing small details of the input.
  16. Not really defensive. I try to stay objective and see things from other points of view. The explorer is available with a third seat that holds two people. I agree it`s not large enough for the average adult, but for kids it serves the purpose. Our 99 explorer averages 20.1mpg. My wife and I have no trouble getting our two kids in and buckled up. My only complaint is room for the driver. Compared to my extended cab chevy truck,I feel really cramped in the explorer. I personally have nothing against mini vans,(Although not very practical on the farm) but my wife refuses to drive one. She is short and prefers the ride height of the explorer. By the way, my expolorer is sitting in my garage between my corvair and and an mgb. They all take nearly the same sq ft of floor space. My moms caravan takes up more. When my wife is tired of the Explorer, I will buy her another suv and retire the current one to use on the farm for pulling wagons around and hauling tools and lunches out to the fields. (again things that mini vans are not well suited for). I plan to sell my truck soon and get a full size suburban w/ 7.4 vortech,(and third row seating). It will get less mpg, but will pull more, and haul more people. I hear people in the media that say that suv`s are more dangerous and that they should be banned. This IMO is a very narrow minded point of view. These people assume that everyones situation is the same and that since they themselves don`t NEED an suv then nobody should have them. These are the same people that push for all of the smog regulations that restrict our hobby. Have you noticed that the majority of these people live in, or around large cities? Obviously, wherever you have a large concentration of vehicles, you will have more pollution. My suggestion would be for them to a more urban area, but I guess it`s easier for them to have the people around them change rather than make the change themselves.
  17. My response was a general one, mostly in regards to JoeinCa`s comment. how about SIT? Suburban Idiot Transport? just a suggestion... Joe. The whole idea behind this forum in open mindedness and acceptance of otherpeople and their choices. I believe everyone has personal choices whether they be with a Z or otherwise. I don`t like what some of the ricer`s do to their cars, but I would never make a blanket designation that they were idiot`s because of what they drive, even if it seems absurd to me. That`s not to say I won`t poke fun at SOME of them for the ridiculous things they do.
  18. My Mom`s Caravan gets the same mpg as our Explorer, but the Explorer has 4x4 for the nasty Ohio winters. I am a farmer too and all of my vehicles are used like a truck and see off road use, even my hyundai elantra, but it`s not a good idea to park a car with a HOT cat converter on a freshly cut wheat field. My point is, just because people drive suv`s who don`t NEED to drive them, doesn`t mean that they should be banned or even limited. The whole idea is freedom of choice. we all have a choice to drive what we want. As far as FUEL ECONOMY, there are many people in the world that believe we should not be allowed to alter our cars from there original intended purpose or design. (OHIO actually has a law about this) Just How practical is a 2 passenger car with a V8 that gets 25mpg? You could just as easily drive a geo metro with a 3 cyl that get`s 50mpg.
  19. The crosshatch pattern should not change much for engine application. The reason for the pattern is to help the rings seat or break in. If you change to chrome rings then the cros hatch pattern will change.
  20. The Excursion is 4.5 Tons. That might be a bit much for a single person to drive on a regular basis, but there is still a NEED for vehicles that are capable of carrying more than four passengers. We had family in for the weekend, and everytime we wanted to go somewhere we had to use two vehicles. My sister in law has four kids. two of which have to be in car seats. "Try to put them in a Camry"
  21. The bigger the better IMO. If I want to go somelace by myself, I`m perfectly content in a comact car. But if I`m taking the wife and kids with me I would rather drive an SUV. In my Hyundai with two kids in car seats, a diaper bag and a stroller to haul. I wouldn`t have room left for a couple bags of groceries without getting closterphobic. I really couldn`t care less about gas milage. It`s my money, I work for it, and if I want to spend ALL of it on gas to put in my SUV or truck, it`s my decision to make. Apparently alot of people agree with me. Otherwise you wouldn`t see so many of them on the road.
  22. I too love SUV`s. My first was a 92 explorer. I recently aquired a 99 eddie baurer explorer that my wife loves. I plan on getting a 7 passenger 4x4 suburban with a 454 as soon as gas prices go up a litle more. That`s when I will get the best deal on one. It will be more usefull than my full size truck that can only haul 4 passengers comfortably, but will get the same mpg. win/win IMO
  23. I`ve got one that sticks to the inside of the glass. I`m not sure how well it will work, but I`ll post the results after I install it.
  24. Have any plans to add a link to the helpers list been discussed? http://home.earthlink.net/~hybridz/helpers.html
