  1. I would recommend getting a compressor that you will be happy with and that will fill your needs for many years. Somthing that would run a die grinder without much trouble. You may decide down the road that a spray gun and impact is not enough and that you would like to gasket match or polish the bowls of some heads. Doesn`t sears sell ANY belt driven, and oiled compressors any more? If all else fails, get a copy of some regional classifieds and see if you can find a used one. For 250.00 I bought my 80 gal. 5hp 2 stage compressor from a tool and die shop that was building a new shop and wanted all NEW compressors. It works as well as the day they bought it, and has full service and maintanance records from the day it was installed Why buy new when used will do the same job?
  2. All it should require is a set of pushrod guide plates.
  3. me if this is too obvious, but did you push the pistons back into the calipers? I know it would be an obvious mistake, but at the end of a long day when things have gone less than right, I`ve missed things that I normally wouldn`t. How much too thick are the rotors? could they be turned? I myself would go with the Toyota calipers anyway, but thes are all good ?`s
  4. I think the flares ar too big as well as the spoiler. I`ve never cared for the wheel being wider than the tread look, and I`m also not a big fan of the HUGE decals either. Other than that, SWEET LOOKIN Z
  5. Try filling the coolant level with the front of the car raised and the engine running. this will allow the cooling system to BURP, and helps to insure that the radiator cap is the highst point of the cooling system, which will allow any trapped are to escape.
  6. I guess this is a circumstance where Ohio law is pretty cool. While in advance auto the other night, one of the counter guys points out that two of the city police cruisers were in the parking lot of the plaza, and how whenever they park there they have a noticable drop in business. I jokingly say, "I could go out there and do a big smokey burnout", and the manager tells me that they aren`t allowed to issue citations on private property without a complaint from the owner of the property or a legal agent of the owner unless I`m endangering public safety. SOUNDS GOOD TO ME. Let`s go get some WHEEL
  7. It is a bone stock 77 280 4 spd, with 85,000 mi. The n47 head was reworked about 2,000mi ago, but mechanically it`s nothing special. The only mods are for weight reduction and cosmetics. I have a 73 240 front bumper and the rear valance is smoothed with the bumper removed. It also has a 3 piece rear spoiler, fiberglass air dam, factory louvers, and shaved marker lights. I took some pics today but don`t have anywhere to host them.
  8. This car is staying stock. I`ve got two others that will be V8`ed later. One will get a 355 sbc the other will get the 383 sbc. I`ve got a prospective buyer for this one, but I just had to take it out and cruize it. (at least a few times) the guy who might be buying it plans to swap in a V8 as cash permits, but I think he will be satisfied as it is, for a while. I regret selling this one because the car looks really sharp. I`ve been turning heads with it for two days now. The money from the sale WILL go to a good cause though.(my other car)
  9. Well to start with, I finished the z. (bone stock mechanicals)I had just finished installing new front struts and decided to take it for a ride to see how it handled, and if that funky vibration up front was gone. I was a couple miles out of town when a kid in a Prelude Si FARTED past me. I thought to my self... This just won`t do. Everything felt good on the car, so at the next stop sign the kid tries to pull away. I pull up to the sign, look both ways, and get on it. He had about a three car lead on me which I quickly made up. By the time I bang third I`m right beside him, so I pull fourth and pass him up. I pulled in in front of him with plenty of time to stop at the next crossroad about 1/3mi. The guy with me was watching the kids face as we passed. He says the kid was gritting his teeth and his eyes were darting from the windshield to the speedo "SILLY RICE BOY" So with the adrenaline pumping and my heart racing I drive casually home. (with a BIG grin on my face)
  10. And with the brown bread, you can hve a snack when you`re finished.
  11. Pack the pilot hole with bearing grease, then take a 3/8" extension, put the drive end of it into the pilot hole and tap on it with a hammer. This will PUSH the bushing out hydraulically. If for some reason the extension is too big or small, you can us whatever socket fits the tightest, and use the extension to fill the hole. Then you tap on the extension. Works for me
  12. I would just disconnect the coil wire and crank it over. That should allow the engine to get lubed up without the damage of a DRY START.
  13. Welcome, I`m 6'and weigh 220. I fit perfectly in my 77, with plenty of leg/head room. I don`t like to be cramped in a car while I drive. I prefer to stretch out, and I don`t even have the seat all the way back. That`s one great thing about these cars. Who would guess such a LITTLE car would be so comfortable for US tall guys. What`s even better, not only can a BIG GUY fit in the car,a BIG ENGINE can as well.

    Supra LSD??

Well you can`t hardley go wrong for 70 beans. Try looking on one of the SUPRA forums, and post a question about the reliability and power handling capability. If anyone would know they should. As far as adaptability, With a TORCH, a WELDER, and some CASH, anything will FIT.
  15. Could someone point me in the direction of a previous thread on strut sectioning? or maybe to some how to pics? or maybe some first hand info. Hell, I`ll take whatever I can get. Maybe chicken scratch something on a postit.
  16. It`s nice to see that something you`ve put so much time in is still being appreciated. I know that`s how I feel when I see one of my old projects on the road. That can cut both ways though. Regretfully, I have seen more than one of my former projects in salvage yards, some wrecked and some trashed out and rusting away.
  17. Not personally. Just imagine if that had happened while you were standing next to the car tuning. You`re lucky no stray pieces went through the hood. The frame rail will be fairly easy to touch up.
  18. after looking at pics of other rotissuries, I think I went a little overboard on mine. It is is on wheels and constructed of 1/4"x3" box steel and weighs approx 400.lbs. It is large enough and strong enough to hold a full size car though. I originally built it for my 71 chevelle, but now I`m building brackets to fit the Z.
  19. try here for the 5 spd tranny, http://www.car-part.com/
  20. That is rotten egg or sulfer smell. That is an indicator of o2 sensor probs.
  21. I have NO doubt that this guy has that kind of cash invested in the car. It`s not hard to do. (car, paint,g nose,wheels/tires,engine/trans, conversion, suspension, interior, exhaust) That said, I still think it`s overpriced. 15k would be more reasonable, but still more than the average guy would be able to come up with at one time for a TOY, and GOOD LUCK getting a bank to loan you that much money for a 25 yr old car that`s not a PRISTINE undriven show car.(or even then) My .02
  22. I would start by taking a sharp screwdriver, and jabbing away at the rust and the area around it. Then cut out all visible weak spots. You will want to feel the backside of the metal to insure that you have gotten all of the scale, then grind the surrounding area to get to clean metal. Get a can of "weld thru primer" and paint the the area to be welded.(be sure to turn the can upside down to clear the paint nozzle, or it WILL permanently clog it) cut a patch to fit and paint the backside of it with the weld thru primer too. Then weld in the patch. Now you can use the filler and not have to worry about having to do the job over next year.
