Who is the greatest cartoon character of all?
veritech-z replied to Oldestzguy's topic in Non Tech Board
Inhumanoids WAS pretty short lived...I remember that cartoon had the best toys though, the monsters were huge! Way cooler than the show...much like the Visionaries, the toys were far better than the show that was made to support them. -
Hey Pop, he's talking about doing the clutch. Doing it in a parking lot is easier than doing it in a garage because you have more open space, but most apartment complexes have regulations against working on a car (something about scaring away potential tenants). I have personally lowered no less than three cars in the parking garage of USF at night, so doing it at school isn't a bad idea.

Zguy, that cartoon was from like 1958...I'm not too surprised nobody got it. You out-obscure referenced me, that's for sure! -
Wait, now it works. That guy is awesome! His stuff is just impressionist enough to be interesting...How is that done? Is he doing it in photoshop, or is it painting? It looks digital to me, but that could be a result of the scanning... One of my biggest influences was always yoshitaka amano. He has a studio in Paris, I was going to try and find it when I was there, but it turns out it actually a functional workspace that doesn't really like to have guests... http://www.amanosworld.com/

Unless your car is seriously low, you can reach it from underneath too, even without the jack.

I "borrowed" mine when I was working there...I still have it...

hey Mario, you can get a vacuum bleeder from Advance Auto parts, it's maybe $50 deposit, but when you bring it back you get all your money back. It makes bleeding a lot easier, and turns it into a 1-man job. Just a thought, hope everything goes well.

Well, having a girlfriend at all sort of drops your nerd level, don't you think?

That was my take on art school as well. I met a lot of great people, and got exposed to a lot of different media, but as far as actual nuts and bolts technique, I don't feel like I was TAUGHT much, but that doesn't mean I didn't LEARN much through my own exploration of the medium. I think I'm beyond hopeless at teaching myself photoshop...I'll probably have to take one of those adult learning courses to catch up to where I should be. I'm just such a visual learner, I'm one of those people that will draw you a diagram as soon as tell you what I'm trying to say. I have a hard time hearing something and applying it if it isn't right there in front of me. I tend to gravitate towards the paint bucket, and ignore the effects...I really like how Kenji was able make that glow effect on his transformer.. Oh, the goodbrush link didn't work for me, I'll have to try it from home.

Here's some D80 pictures I took when I was in Vegas in early december: Mrs. VZ at the Grand Canyon: Here's me and the Dubya formulating foreign policy at the wax museum:

Eric, I don't work with color primarily, and my comfort zone isn't really car stuff. I taught myself how to draw from reading comic books in middle/high school, and never took an art class until I got to college. I've got a Bachelor's in Studio Art, but the program I went through kind of operated under the assumption that you already knew the fundamentals and just exposed you to different types of media (my focus was printmaking, mostly intaglio). Well, I kind of picked up my fundamentals "on the streets", so I always felt at a disadvantage when it came to that type of thing. Also, they really looked down on doing commercial type art, so I was never really exposed to photoshop or any of the other cool software that might have allowed me to actually do something useful with my degree...so here I am at a parts counter at the slowest car dealership in the universe, drawing transformers and paint jobs for people I've never met just so I don't go insane...I'm trying to put together a portfolio so I can go back to get my masters at UCF in video game design, the program there is run by some guys from electronic arts (who has an office in orlando and takes most of the graduates) and is an accredited masters, so I figured it was worth it to try and go for a career change. I've got another thread going about my portfolio ideas, I'll see if I can find the link... -edit- http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=117386 I'm thinking of ditching the first one in favor of the last one, but I'm really floundering on this project because I've never had to put together a portfolio (another useful skill that would have been nice to have learned in college) and the admissions guy is being really vague.

If I had an early, smaller than a 280z bumper then I'd fab some brackets so it would hang just underneath.
-
Sigh...I'm never happy with my photoshop coloring results...might as well be MSPaint for all I can get it to do...

Alright, since I've got nothing BUT time on my hands, I drew a Z31 transformer at work today. It's pretty old school style transformer, so if you Z31-ites don't like it, maybe I can do a different one. For my second trick, I will attempt to use photoshop to color it. I'll get back to you guys and let you know how it works.

the early days of drifting used to see cars with the FRONT wheels having camber like that while the back wheels were closer to 0 camber. I think it was called the "oni" camber, not really "devil" or "demon" camber, but something along those lines. I'm totally doing an external oil cooler once I've got an engine worth keeping cool...

twin throttle bodies, like SUs?

what's going on in that first picture is this: That guy is clearly a member of asinine body mod club (as are several cars on that page). First rule of asinine body mod club is you don't talk about asinine body mod club. That 2nd Gen RX-7 is the business! I still want a turbo II... I think you mean the camber in the back? Toe is when the wheels point towards or away from each other in the front or back, and camber is the angle in towards the center or out away from center of the vertical axis of the wheel.

Talk to Owen and Auxilliary, they've both done it (well, not with the turbo I don't think, but the rotary anyway-Owen and Aux, correct me if I'm worng?). There was a pretty good thread about Aux's car going with pictures, it should be easy to find, I think it's called "so you want to swap a rotary into your datsun" or something like that. * edit * that thread is actually still on the first page of the other engines section, like 10 threads down from this one

Wow, they've got some special body mods going on in that website...I like this thing, with the S30 front end on the Kenmeri rear: Is it really just a 2+2 with different tail lights? This is nice too, an S130 with the skyline tail lights: I need one of these, BAD! Thanks for the link Olie, that was some cool stuff!

Anybody ever hear of these guys? I just hit a google image search for Z31, and this website was one of the results. I've never seen a Z31 pantera hatch before... http://www.yamato-bit.co.jp/style/old_style.html

We used to sell a product at Advance Auto Parts (well, it was back when we were still Discount Auto Parts, but I digress) that was called Swab, it was an orange powder that was awesome at getting oil out of concrete. I know you've got asphalt though, and I don't know how well it would work on that. I don't know where you could get that anymore, and I'm not sure if it had one "a" in the name or two, but It used to fly off the shelf.

from: http://www.askthebuilder.com/B368_Oil_Spills_on_Pavement.shtml I don't know how useful that is, but seems easy enough to try. If it was my driveway, I'd be tempted to pressure wash but I don't know if that would work or not.

looking for unique front air dams for 74-78 280z
veritech-z replied to Ansel Marrow's topic in Body Kits & Paint
I'll trade you straight up for my fiberglass spook and the factory panels it mounts to... (Hope Big-Phil doesn't see this one...) -
My problem isn't in the technique, it's in the hardware...It's just not firing on all six for some reason...sounds like it's got a pretty bad miss, and when you floor it under load, it starts breaking up around 3k rpms...street tuning sucks...but when you're broke, it's all you got. Up to now i've been borrowing the DB9 tuning cable from a buddy because I haven't actually gone out and bought my own, I guess it's finally time to break down and do that. Maybe I should put up some burnout pics in the 02 Altima (with the QR25DE), I used to smoke them like Ron's Cut supreme there, with no trickery save finding a parking lot that had just been resurfaced (they smoke better). She's getting old, but she's still got it...Jim Wolf flywheel and 10mm oversize clutch, custom Veritech-z hidden cold air intake (it runs through the stock airbox so you can't even tell it's there, but it's all 3" tube), Jim Wolf balance shaft delete kit, Hotshot header (with factory heat shield re-installed to cover it up) and an Unorthodox lightened crank pulley. It's probably still got a smoke show or two left in it, even after 100k miles on all that stuff...

Wow, how did I miss this thread? I got PM from both OTM AND BRAAP to come check this out! Motorhead, I wish I was half as proficient as you guys in photoshop (nice airbrush effect, by the way)...I get so frustrated with the mouse, I've been thinking I should get a tablet or something. It's just so cumbersome for me to work with, I prefer to draw and use old fashioned collage for the immediacy of the results, but I know that the possibilities are unlimited once you figure it out. Hey Terry, isn't your son in the Marines now too? How is that going? Once I get the Hybridz talent show thread started, maybe we'll get to see some more hidden talents from everybody! I don't think that the drawing forum ever got off the ground because nobody bothered to put a request in the site support section like with the member's projects. I know I'd hate to see it end up getting cluttered with stuff that didn't really add to the site, maybe there should be some ground rules about what type of material gets to go there? Car related stuff only?
