Im not disputing what Ron has mentioned here or what you're saying. But that's not what I created this thread for, and I think you two are sort of missing the point in this. A lot of dyno shops are willing to try new tuning software and the hardware that goes with it, but choosing a standalone system that is both cost effective for your goals and has the right feature set is really what I was after here. Not whether it is prefered because of sheer volume of experienced users, rather than volume of features. I'm looking for technical information here. And I'm sure it would be a good catalogue. So lets ditch the "experience thing" until we narrow down the top 5 ECU/ECM's for RB engines in regards to what's beneficial and what's not, as well as price. infact, lets make it 6. 2 high grade 2 mid grade 2 low grade with Megasquirt being the obvious DIY 7th, which we can put into Limbo. Who knows... those who previously were entertained by the thought of using other ECU's than their current setup just to see how they faired would probably be even more so convinced once they find something out that they don't know. ( I dont know whether that's a good or bad thing, considering it means you might have to open your wallet)

5zigen has a titanium particle coated mild-steel exhaust, so I think it can be done. it's more of a rust preventative, I believe.

Ok, so after browsing around and hearing this and that about all other engine management systems for the RB (this thread is RB specific, with some L28 goodness if it is at all relative, since they're both I6), I think we should finally get a good word on what is and what isn't usefull to RB tunning in the world of EMS and ECU. I'm at work now. But later today, I'm going to post links to the various types of units, so that I can get some feedback about them, and hopefully we can narrow down some of the required details and cool features that each EMS/ECU has. Once that's done, I can make a JPEG or PDF comparison chart, so that you can directly compare them. I think this thread would help a lot of us in the long run. But we'll need some experienced users and some good technical info to compile a good database. I also think that once a month or so, this thread should be cleaned up and revised, as engine electrical is one of the most important parts of having a running car, am I right? I didn't post this in the electrical section, because I think we should focus on the RB family for now, and expand later. If anyone wants to start while I'm at work, by all means. One of my main reasons for trying to start a database is because I constantly hear Wolf, Microtech, Haltech, Motec... But I never hear units that are commonly used in Japan (such as the AEM EMS, HKS F-Con) and units like SDS-Efi or any others coming up in RB discussions, and I think everyone ought to know why... including myself.

♥♥♥♥, i dunno why, but every time i see a long iron engine like the L or the RB hanging by 4 of those small bolts on an engine stand, it makes me queezy

it's a hell of a lot easier to change anything on! ROFL

Great Place for mandrel tube.. aluminum and SS!!

jessus, i think im gonna order big quants, and start reselling. LOLOLOLOL -
is this thing going to hit 8.50 though? now i know why you were inquiring about the 1000hp eagle rods, but i still think it's a bit of a hit or miss when choosing rods that are in direct competition with the rest of the big names associated with engines of this type of level. so yah, what are you going to be doing to get to 8.50? RIPS GTS4 R32 hits high 8's with the RB30 setup, and Exvitermini hits 8's as well with their R33. HKS is bangin 7's with their RB powered 240sx dragster that has since retired, i believe. what's shakin?

how would you say it compares to the V500 from wolf? I've only ever worked with a megasquirt, so I can't really say what the differences between these two really are. But I like the connector and sensor packages that it comes with, and I think I remember paul @ Neetronics (tuned fentin-fury's rb26z) say that haltech is a delight to tune (or was it the opposite? he was talking about two units at once). I think the other was SDS-Efi (http://www.sds-efi.com), so I'm not sure which is easier. I'd like to know what benefits of running this in comparison to wolf would be? i figure that getting things working peachy are just a matter of understanding the menus and reading the manual during sensor setup phase, no?

hey boozed so let's put this into perspective for a sec, for my own sake. If i get an RB25 with an auto transmission (900 dollars vs 2500 with 5speed), and I buy a 1996 JDM 300zx TT 5 speed transmission... ... I should just swap the bellhousing with a 5speed RB25 one that I get from elsewhere, and the 1/8inch would be negligible in the fitment of the transmission? what else would need to be changed regarding the transmission itself. I know i'll have to get a custom driveshaft since it's going in a Z anyways, and I know i'll have to switch the ECU to another unit, as well as wiring, but all things considered... to get this into a regular 240z, or to atleast mate this 5 speed to an RB25 where stock mount location is neither required nor desired... what are we looking at in terms of work. 2500 snap-on kit is a little out of my budget EDIT: I also counted 31 pictures that didn't contain shockers... which is an indication of just how many pictures were taken throughout this process, which is very well appreciated by us, I'm sure. but you must retake them, and disassemble the transmission to get that shocker back on those 31 pics.. I'm just so sorry.

Nope, I know what lead filler looks like.. there's some on the top near where the quarter window b pillar and hatch meet. This is like a dark grey body filler. I think it's a harder version of polyester filler with no fibreglass in it either. but i got it off =) now here's the list of stuff I need to get this build rolling: RB30 engine + front sump pan s14 front suspension + crossmember for RB mounting/measuring frame rails floor pans quarters inner fender wells then when that's done: homemade fibreglass flares homemade fibreglass rear spoiler home made fibreglass rear diffuser (contemplating weather I wanna do it still) and then a side vent for the ITB's comin off the RB25 or 26 head then electrical work, and MAYBE a cage (not sure if i want to go that route yet) then ofcourse, misc parts here and there to make it drivable, like seats and such, but I can use the stock ones if i make some brackets to bolt them to the new floor and ♥♥♥♥. I have a welder, a sheet metal bender (small, but will do the job), a lot of tools that I will need, and a certified mechanic for a room mate who's here to help along the way. should be fun, I'm excited! ETA: 1.5 years , or next fall/winter it should be in final prep stages for the beginning of 2009. maybe i'll come out on march break since there are some nice track events happening, and it would be a good shake down for the car =)

Complete front and rear subframe swap
Careless replied to ThreeDeadZs's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I'm going to go full s14 setup, just because I want to make it a fun project, really. I'm ready to try my hand at fabricating all things for my car, so I'll go all the way =) DO it DO it! -
well sommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmeone's got a pair of quarters waiting at mommy and daddy's house. Thanks Chuck! (cbuczesk) pleasure doin biznazzzz! so now I'm going to install those during the summer, and in the meantime, I'm going to be acquiring more parts for the build up. I think I just need the S14 front suspension and cross member, and the RB30 block for positioning, and I should be ready to get this thing into full buildification mode. I might have to pull out my calibrated smashometer tool for the floor pans to beat out the rust before sandblasting it. =)

bed, bath & beyond? don't you test pink towels fo softness instead of pyrex for durability?

GTiR with an SR20 would definately be my choice. light weight, good power, revs high too, and AWD. sounds like a good combo to me =)
