high school project FINISHED....2 years later!
Globerunner513 replied to Globerunner513's topic in Non Tech Board
Edited link in my signature. Yay finally have a build thread. -
no i think you're right on that count.
-
Well I never actually had a build thread on Hybridz...and thought I'd post this up to give something decent to link to in my Signature. haha. Enjoy. STORY: I got this car from a friend in 2005 during my junior year in HS. Paid $200. At first i only got it because i fell in love with the car the first time i saw it (literally, didn't know datsun made a sports car before then), and it was too good of a deal to let go. Soon after i decided to kill two birds with one stone so to speak. I would use the car for my Culminating Senior Project in high school, and that would in turn give me motivation and a goal to work towards. Although i didn't finish the car in time, i still had more than enough work into it to present my progress in the project. So after purchasing the car, i drove it about a mile to my house....then then didn't drive it again for about 2 years *except on and off the trailer* I soon began diving into the project and began taking apart the interior. There were the obvious things...no carpet, cracked dashboard, torn seat covers, and decaying steering wheel from the california sun (don't ask me how a steering wheel decays, i don't know either) To my surprise there was extremely little rust. some surface spots here and there, but the only real rust was in the hatch area. Both the hatch and the panel had to be replaced. Next order of business was the suspension. Both front struts had siezed up, and the rear's were on their last leg. So i went with Tokico's Illumina 5-way adjustable struts. Found a good deal on ebay, and figured why not?. Also replaced the brake master cylinder, front calipers, and rear brake hoses at this time. Everything up to this point were all things that needed to be done to simply have a decently driving car, that wouldn't fall apart on me. But i wanted more than that. I was looking for a daily driver that i would enjoy driving as much as i enjoyed just being in the car. This meant that the interior was gonna need a little help. I started off by installing a full face dash cap. Was really pleased with how it turned out. Cut some holes in the doors for a set of front speakers. Got a nice new set of seat covers (bottoms not shown) And installed a new Alpine stereo and rear speaker box with Infinity 'Reference' 6x9's *previous owner had an old sony stereo with computer speakers just lying in the back* Also got some a carpet set, but no photos since it was still in the box. Next was the body work. I started by sanding down the original paint, and filled the side-strip holes with a thin layer of bondo. I shaved the holes in the rear by covering them from behind with fiberglass then filling them with fiberglass re-inforced bondo, then bondo to smooth in all out. Finally i was ready to take it to the body shop to have things finished up by a professional. Notice hand polished grill, and new MSA type II air dam to replace the front "sea anchor" Getting a low z car onto high trailer....Take I *actually ended up finding out that trailers make great see-saws when not hitched properly* oops Take II....had to think this time. Used a nearby driveway to get the angle right. At the body shop, getting smoothed out Back home from the body shop. Primered and ready to be blocked out. More sanding... K&N intake. Just having a little fun. Second layer of primer shot, and getting sanded down. Base coat sprayed. 2004 350z Daytona Blue. 2 coats. Clear coat sprayed and ready to take home. And i also took the front lip from this.... and did This!!

Updated my sig. And im working on updating the first post of this thread to show more of the progression of the project, instead of the final result. And the headlights are just boring, old 7" one-piece headlamps. The pictures make them look brighter, but in reality they are quite dim. My foglights put out more than the headlights do. -

question about zg flares on a particular z

steady....... He was trying to help. We've all seen lots of projects gone out the window (almost icluding my own) because people tried to make it look good before working properly. There was no way to derive what your intentions with the advertised car in your first post, so he was giving you the advice you were looking for. That car has potential, but as stated, you would have to cut out the flares already on the car, and they appear to be done fairly well. In any case, its your time, and your money so don't let the internet stop you if you want to tackle it. -
Things like this could be a good idea for car meets/shows. I joined a forum this summer because of a card someone left under my wiper.

thats awesome. Great color! I think i saw that rear view mirror in Autobacs when I was out there. lol.
-
lol well the 'devil z' went through several facelifts, including flush mounted mirrors, and even a Gnose at one time.

haha true to form this thread pops up again about every 2 or 3 months. Front bumper is from Motorsport Auto http://www.thezstore.com. Type II front airdam. And thanks for the comment. I really should change the link in my sig to a more comprehensive thread of my project. -
The only thing I have left is my final check ride for my Private Pilot License (yeah...still working on it lol) And looks like im gonna have to wait through the weekend because of weather.

Yeah I just finished all the clips as well. Just fascinating really. I thought the guy's perspective on it all was interesting, but he kept up bringing up the food, and I wonder if he realizes that most of the people, including his guards and tour guides probably dont ever get to eat that much. That was my only thing with him. I think the most interesting part of it was when they asked that man at the DMZ about the reunification. Just shows how much brainwashing really goes on. What a unique experience.

This guy (Shane Smith) was very determined to get into North Korea and see what it's really like over there... After many trials he ended up flying to China and bribed a North Korean customs agent for a visa into the communist nation. He posted 14 mini-films from his trip here: Vice Guide to North Korea Cross posted from an aviation forum I'm on. Just started watching the first vid, but it looks very interesting. Thought others might be interested as well. I know this is very borderline political, so I understand if this ends up in the 'shed.

just went to the website, and looks like the free demo of the game they have actually has full online capabilities. I'll give it a try soon.

sounds like the pilot was trying to direct the plane into a nearby valley before he punched out. Although, if it was in a flat spin, like some witnesses said, there probably wouldnt' have been much he could do. Hope no one was hurt in the crash.
-
That sounds like a endurance racer i talked with. He told his team that who ever posted the fastest lap time of the day had to buy dinner for the whole crew. Basically ensuring that they endured, first and foremost. Interesting concept.
-
awesome! i might have to do the same. I'll see if i can find a cheap wheel and a version of the game somewhere.
-
I have the infinity reference 6x9's as well. Personally I got them because they didnt' have much base, but they have awesome sound quality. In my opinion anyway.
-
Looks good! For that kind of picture, you want the darkest place you can find. I actually did a bit of this kind of photography with my friend and his WRX. We went out and the place we used wasn't quite dark enough, but it turned out well still. One thing i could suggest is to position your body between the flash and the camera so you don't get all of those 'stars' around your car, unless thats what you're going for. Still it turned out great!

Got my cage all buttoned up, tell me what you think!

NASIOC started banning people who post that vid HAHA. i can only imagine how many times its showed up there. Still an awesome spectacle.
