  1. quit farting around and get that rotary Z on the road already!! Tim
  2. I too am using a HF Chicago Electric unit, but runs on 230 volts. I have had no problems (except self-induced). I have not used shielding gas. I agree that thin metal is challenging, but very do-able. I paid ~$300 for mine.....one of the best $300 I ever spent. Tim
  3. Have you tried disconnecting the BOV? Tim
  4. Start at the front and twist them up (rotate towards the windshield), and pull up. They shopuld come off pretty easily once you get the manuveur correct. Tim
  5. Please read this: http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=24337 See #2 in particular.
  6. Keep in mind that most alignment places (at least in my experience) are like assembly lines and don't do a thorough job. A good alignment shop should take at least 15 minutes on the car before even putting the sensors on it. (I was an alignment tech for years, so I know of what I speak). You should raise the front of the car and check for play in All areas and in ALL directions. If you do that you will find the problem. Probably is what Alex mentioned, but could also be wheel bearings, ball joints, etc. Tim
  7. Well....as you know, a picture is worth a 1000 words.....I bet that shut his pompous @ss up!!! Good on ya John!! Tim
  8. Good on ya Steve!!! You're gonna have to gimme a ride next time I'm down there! Tim
  9. I am going to be getting my shafts (new) from Speedway soon. If you need a set, let me know and I will have him make a second set while he's at it. Tim
  10. Give Marty Morris in the parts dept. @ Scoggin Dickey Chevrolet a call. He'll help you out. When I ordered my heads from him (Vortec), I got the one's with the upgraded springs pre-installed. http://www.sdpc2000.com/ Tim
  11. Sorry that you're having a run of rotten luck....remember me saying to go through the car from front to back? You would very likely have caught that bearing!! They don't 'just go', they work at it. Tim
  12. If you have the $$$, the best way to go is the truck bed lining stuff. They give a lifetime warranty on it. looks great and you can choose how much texture you want....from smooth to chunky. I have the magazine article, so shout if you want the details. Tim
  13. It depends how much stuff you need for the 280 from the 260. If you need a bunch of parts, you will need to add up how much it will cost you to buy it all seperately and the time it will take to find all the parts (JYs etc) to see if it's worth it. Plus, factor in the time the 260 work will take away from the 280. You could always rape the 260 for parts, then sell it as a 'rust free' rolling chassis. Those are getting hard to find, sdo I don't think you will have a problem selling it. Up to you....I've been there, done that. Tim
  14. RX, For an el cheapo conversion, the ZX distributor with the module on it works great. I ran one in my 240 for years with absolutely no problems. Tim
  15. Does it smoke all the time while it's running, or just under accelleration? Also, is it black smoke, blue smoke or white smoke? Tim
  16. If you don't already have one, get an auto-darkening welding mask. I finally broke down and got one (now that 99% of my welding is done), an I wish I had gotten one years ago. Get one now!!!!! You will NOT regret it! Tim
  17. the urethane ones are fine, you just have to use a flexible paint (like bumper paint) and you have to brace them a bit because the wind (at speed) tends to buckle them. Tim
  18. Well, I just had the cable modem installed. man this connection smokes!! It rivals the network at work!! Cool!!!! High Speed Internet at home!! And alway s on...NO MoRE WAITING FOR DIALUP! Tim
  19. James, I would have no problem making you one, but 2 things to consider: I won't have time until my V8 conversion is complete. You should really consider doing it yourself so that you can understand your wiring so that you can trouble shoot issues down the road. Wiring is very easy ( I am certainly no expert). I bought all the parts from MacMaster Carr, and have a parts list if you want. I am also running a fairly unique system (complete rewire of the car) I have the LT1, so the engine wiring (PCM) is different, I am not running wipers, radio, heater etc, and have all Non OEM gauges..... Tim
  20. LT1 pcm provides ground for the fan's relay.
  21. I don't have any pictures on my listed site. There are pics on my image station account: http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4290997957 It is really easy and much much cheaper than the predone ones. Tim
  22. Sorry...not sure I understand the question? Tim
  23. Sand off all the paint from the entire panel, and check for rust on any of the other sections. If the rust is only in the one spot, cut it out and then cut a piece of sheet metal to the same size and weld it in. Then use some plastic filler and smooth it out, sant it down and primer and paint. Where in CA are you? Tim
