  1. quote SCAT has their own forging and machine shop in Redondo Beach, CA. All of their products AFAIK, are made on the premises...I've seen it myself. They have various different castings/forgings and billet products at different $$$. Their 9000 series cranks are very good bang for the buck. They have an online catalogue at:http://www.scatcrankshafts.com/ Tim
  2. My Dad uses custom stroke SCAT cranks in his racing car (2001 Camaro 350ci Trans Am style racing series) for road circut racing. He has never had any problems....11.5:1 compression ratio and continual revving to 8grand. Tim
  3. I think at that price (or less if you have good negotiating skills), as long as the motor runs well during the test drive and the car is in generally good shape, it will be well worth it. If it doesn't have any chassis strengthening (roll cage, sub-frame connectors etc), then check for signs of chassis twisting (doors and hatch open/close smoothly and line up well with the other body lines). Like I said, at that price, unless its obviously a POS, grab it!! Tim
  4. Terry, As always, that Z looks freeking Bitchin BTW, where are U going to put the front license plate? Tim
  5. I don't believe that the Super Victor is available for the Vortec heads (???). I am using the RPM performer w/ mine (350) and it seems to work quite well. Just keep in mind the limitations of the standard valve springs if you are going to get a 'big' cam. If you are buying them new, sink a little more and get the upgraded valve train. Tim
  6. Cerberus, While you're at it, would you mind seeing if you can get any details on using different viscosity oils to change the lock up characteristics. I seem to remember reading somewhere that this is possible. Thanks, Tim
  7. Omar, I am busy with that exact thing. Have posted a couple of pics...you know where.... Tim
  8. Oh well....that's why they make Nitrous Oxide Tim
  9. Just BTW, I saw a 71 at the JY (not in the JY, but in the parking lot) with this scoop on. Looked pretty nice. The guy opened the hood for me and if it wasn't a 'factory' instal, it was definitely done pretty nicely. Tim

    Muffleration :)

I am planning to do dual 2.5" into single 3". Question is: Is there a muffler that has 2x 2.5" inlets and one 3" outlet. That way I can use the muffler as a 'Y' into the 3" and not need to have 3 mufflers (one on each of the 2.5" pipes and one on the 3" pipe)? Otherwise I was planning on using two resonator types on the 2 2.5" sections and a regular(box)type on the 3" section. I don't mind losing a couple of horses with the 2 into 1 muffler, but I don't want to unnecesarily block up the exhaust system. Tim
  11. Ross C: quote: 2) be aware of their overall lift limits/springs etc and be sure to package your cam/springs etc Keep in mind that for a 'few bucks more' you can get the heads from GM with upgraded valve train that can handle higher lift cams. Tim
  12. Hey Andrew....Idle a little high? Great pics... looks sweet and neat! Tim
  13. I found on my 73 that the fender emblems have a flared clip and that you have to somehow squeeze them from the inside with pliers or something to pp them out. I was unsuccessful and ended up breaking the 'tits' off the damn things. Tim
  14. Nion, I was in the same predicament. I originally bought my Z as a non-runner, planning to get it running and that's it. Well, the 'while I'm at it' bug bit me and I bought another to rape for parts.(I paid less than $400 each). Well I ended up getting the second one going with little effort and decided to drop a V8 in the first. Well as you can see by the pictures, I went 'a little' further than just dropping in the motor and trans! . But, it is a LOT easier to do what you want while the car is completely stripped, than to go back later and do it. Anyways, as to your questions..... The straps have a 'toothed' loop thingy that 'locks' the belts in place unless you pull the other way. I have tried them and the hold well. I also have a 'lid' for the cell box, which will be on hinges (on the side closer to the dash) and a latch on the taillight side. That way once the carpet is in, it will be 'invisible'. (except the outlets sticking out under at the back).I also plan to put some foam around the outside of the cell (between the cell and the box)just to be sure that with a full tank it doesn't slide around under hard cornering, stops and pull offs. Let me know if you need any more info. Tim
  15. I am using these on a 69 350 which I rebuilt for my cheyenne 20. Love them. Tim
  16. Don't have any, but see them at the JYs all the time. I'll let you know next time I go (couple of weeks) and I'll see if you still need them. Tim

    HybridZ FAQ

Jeromio, More than welcome to use, link or otherwise use any of the R230 pics on my Yahoo page. I feel it a bit inappropriate to give info on the conversion, since I am not done yet. For that matter, you can use and abuse any of the pics there. Tim
  18. 26" wide, 11" deep and 20" long. Each of the top 'flanges' are about 4 inches +-. Plus the recess for the tank reservoir at the bottom. Tim
  19. Nion, It's the 16gal 'prostreet' cell from Summit. I am using the old 'luggage straps' from the 240Z to hold it down. Perfect width and length. Tim
  20. Joe, Have a look at the post "desktop Dyno revisted" in this section. Tim
  21. Joe, I am using, and am very happy with, the Vortec heads available from GM. Fully assembled and new are less than $500.00, and flow better than most aftermarket heads, and the vette heads. For a little more you can get them with the upgraded springs for a 'bigger' cam, that's brings them up to just over $600. Well worth it. I got mine from Scoggin Dickey. Only downside is the weight of the cast iron vs. the Aluminum aftermarket heads, but the price makes it well worth it. An article in Super Chevy, or Chevy High Performance (???), made 409HP with these heads. Tim
  22. Joe, All the HP potential is in the heads, cam and intake, so good choices in these areas could easily make 300+ hp. Tim
  23. Nion, I have also done something like you are after. Click the homepage icon above to go to my Yahoo photos page. Tim
  24. Sorry, Yes 84 300zx....definitely a 300. Tim
