What about aftermarket, like MSA, or Vic British?

The route I went, and I am very happy that I didn't give up and get a harness, was to sit down with the Service Manual and trace each and every wire/circuit from the PCM. I also pulled every oem datsun wire out of the can and rewired it from scratch. This took a lot of time, but it gave me an intimate knowledge of the wiring and systems that definitely helps down the road.....this way costs very little....the most expensive part being the Factory Service manual...at about $100.... LT1 is a 350ci sbc..

An LT1 is a SBC.... Crate engines will likely be your cheapest route, and you will get a warranty. Any used engine (LT1 in your example) may be a good way to go, but yoou won't likely know the history. My recommendation (FWIW): Get a running 350ci donor car for cheap....find something that has body damage etc. Swap into the Z and get everything working. Upgrade your suspension, brakes, chassis etc. After some time working out all the bugs etc, pull the motor and hop it up if you want more power. Tim

That site is Owen's. With the Q45 R200VLSD, I spaced the diff forward from the MB about 1/4 inch with large washers. To line it up, I ran a piece of string from each companion flange (lined up to the center of it's large nut), then lined the centerline of the Diff's output flanges to the string (laying underneath and eyeballing it). There is a visual check as well as the tailpipe test. You will fail the visual.

The T56 pattern is pretty close together which would make the 'legs' of the aluminum plate between gears (like between 1st and 3rd and 5th) very thin......I think it would look cool if bevelled nicely and polished....
