  1. I was really checking out your z. That is one of the cleanest conversions I've ever seen. My friend at work was telling me about a hybrid V8z at some autocross events...it was probably yours since he said you couldn't see the brake booster or master cylinder at all. Hats off to you, your car is unbelievable.
  2. I want to know where I can buy just the solonoid unit from an Apex, greddy or Blitz (not in that particular order). I don't need the controller since I plan on using a Wolf3D. Doesn't the solonoid valve just take a voltage signal for the input? I read that these controllers are way better than the stock wastgate actuator since it will actually open up the wastegate at 7psi, not start opening it up around 5-6 psi.
  3. Hey Justin, I have some blinker fluid you can borrow, if necessary...lol (j/k)
  4. Hi Ron, l'll be there too!! I have my engine apart replacing the exhaust manifold gasket, but I should be able to slap it back together tonight, shine up the car Saturday, and be there Sunday. That is if everything goes perfect, which it never seems to do for me... Bryan should be there in his Turbo S130, James in his 240, Erik in his ZXR...it should be a good turnout. I'll try to make it Saturday for the swap meet and dinner, but realistically that probably won't happen. -Hugh
  5. Innnnnteresting...I wonder if the VG's would keep the turbulent flow from "seperating" more or would it hurt performance? Also, when I stuck those VG's on my S30 last night, I think I have them set too far forward. Damn, I should have studied those wind tunnel and the pics Prox posted better. I have the rear of them set about four inches from the rear glass, not two. I didn't want to remove them and set them back more from fear of pulling my paint off and having un-usable double sided adhesive...I suppose I'll wait until a hot summer day and see if I can coax them off and re-locate them. Later, -Hugh
  6. I ordered two sets, one black and one primer to match my body color with a little paint. The bastard on ebay sent me two blacks sets. I'll get them painted up soon and *literally* stick them on my S130.
  7. Prox, I have those same VG's...I was wondering if I made a bad buying decision after I ordered those since the VG "rudders" for the WRX STI are more pyramid in shape rather than the constant width cross-sectional profile (going straight up without any taper). I ordered a set for my S130 as well. Maybe I can be the first one on the "Hybrid-z block" mount those, lol. If I remember right, they are supposed to be mouned 3-4" ahead of where the flow seperates along the rear hatch. Where did I see the the pic of the streamlines going over the clay model of the S130? I just want a good idea of how far forward to mount them from the hatch...there isn't much playroom between the t-tops and the part of the roof that transitions to the hatch (only on coupes). Eh...I'll post some pics to better illustrate what the heck I'm talking about. You guys are way ahead of me...I have some catching up to do!! Cheers, -Hugh
  8. Damn, I thought it was at the end of June. I apologize for the mis-information. Right now I'm having to replace the intake / exhaust manifold gasket this week...with the turbo, it is proving to be S.O.B. job...so I better be done before next weekend, lol. As for other shows in the Pacific NW, we used to have the Mt Shasta show, but I think this will be the first time in ~20 years that we aren't holding it (due to health concerns of the organizers). There is also the "Blue Lake" Datsun meet in Gresham (small compared to the Canby show). There is the "Meeting of the Mindz" in Port Townsend WA (at least it is somewhere in the SEA-Tac area). There is also a show in British Columbia somewhere, probably Vancouver. -Hugh
  9. Yep, I live in SW Portland (near Multnomah village). I have ~four z-bretheren that I'm pretty tight with. Also, don't miss the Canby show at the end of June. Go to DatsunsNW.org for details. Later, -Hugh
  10. You'd need fuel lines to route to the AFPR. I'd think about going braided lines with 6AN or 8AN fittings. Also think about upgrading the fuel pump...you could get a Warlboro (same as Holley) for cheap that flows really good, or maybe go with a Bosch unit that fits a Porsche 944 turbo. Also, a fuel pressure gauge would help to make sure you're regulating ~36-38 psi at idle. Not sure if you'd need new fuel injector clips or not. What to watch out for? Don't overtighten the AN fittings. Measure twice, cut once! HTH...
  11. I would have been cool to try to hang with them when they went through Oregon...
  12. Hey, I'll throw in $20 if you use my car for testing next time...(j/k, I can only wish ) I'll do my best to interpolate / extrapolate the results for an S130 with an aero kit (if it hasn't been done already). The pics etc. should make it easier to understand. I can't wait. Cheers Guys!!
  13. Hey, thanks for the props ULISES, I appreciate it. Trip back was great. No problems with the caliper other than it squeaked a tiny bit at times. I need to inspect that ASAP and get new parts...maybe it is time for an upgrade!! We left SoCal about 4-5pm, drove up the Five with Mach5 until he cut off to San Fran...then we drove and drove until 1am. I narrowly missed striking this HUGE Coyote about 12am in BFE goin' nearly 100 mile an hour We wanted to get north of Sacramento to miss the morning rush hour and finally pulled into this Latino "Bates motel" at 1am ~150 miles south of Redding (an oasis in the middle of nowhere) We got home by ~7pm the next day. It was the first time we ever made it back to Portland during daylight hours. Our buddie Ryan drove Bryan's black turbo car (he just got back from eight years in the Army two days before we left...now he wants a 280ZXT ) He drives a jeep and it was hard for him to keep up with me in the high-speed corners of the mountain passes...why he couldn't hit the gas instead of the brake in the corners is beyond me!! Our cars can handle it. Man, it was a LOT of fun, I can't wait 'til next year. I'll do my best to de-throne Viper-Z, lol Later, -Hugh
  14. My buddy at work is a SAE member (I used to be)...if no one else gets it, I might be able to get him to order it and save a couple of bucks
  15. Hey, thanks for those kind words Davy! I didn't really take the cake, but my Z got 3rd place for 280ZX Modified!! Whoo hoo!! I agree, the members did a really good job to represent our Z's. HybridZ RULES!!

    MSA_2007

    3rd place!
  17. Now thats the REAL "real-deal" there...(even if it is a movie ) Cheers and thanks for that stagefumer11!! very cool.
  18. Here it is!! Check it out...: That is the "REAL-deal" I actually have this PS2 video game... ...if anyon can beat stage 3, YOU are my HERO!! Here's a "fluffy" Sarah McLachlan?? remix version: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1711402364984666279
  19. Hey Mindcrime, welcome to HybridZ!! I think that is a "Turbo-Tom" setup. I believe they were somewhat popular in the '70's before the L28ET came out. Rule #1 is to always search before posting (this site and Google, etc). Is this what you're after? http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=117512&highlight=turbo+tom http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=105095&highlight=turbo+tom http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=115672&highlight=turbo+tom Since they are now defunct, I think you'll have to go about finding a used setup...notice there isn't any place for an IC to go... Also do a search on "Wangan Midnight" on youtube...I think that is a tripple Mikuni draw-through turbo setup. See ya around, -Hugh
  20. Lookin' good man. My only thought is that thin speaker carpet material won't deaden sound very well. Are you going to dynamat it first? Also the floorboards look like they need a little TLC, but who's doesn't? I like the shifter too. Can you tell the difference in the throw from the stock one? Did you get it off ebay or MSA?? Thanks, -Hugh
  21. From zcar.com... Back in college, a friend of mine kept telling me how the Z-cars were a great car for racing (and looked damn good too). I got the z-history screen saver in 1998, got the "bug" and found out about zcar.com from webcrawler. When I returned home from college, I bought my first Z; a 1981 280ZX 2+2. I got it restored, but it wasn't what I expected it to be when I found out about the 280ZX Coupe and Turbo!! Long story short, I hung out on zcar for a number of years until I gained knowledge (and gained more z-cars). Hybridz was kind of intimidating to me at that time. It seemed the mods would "crack down" on any noob comments (good). zcar.com was cool, but a couple of years ago I think it took a dive (as others have mentioned) and I couldn't take it anymore!! Now I see why a site like this works the BEST. Cheers, -Hughdogz
  22. Oregon. Please, no one else move here (unless you're into Z's of course)
  23. Hey RedFive, If you simply look it up in a catalog like MSA or Black Dragon, you'll see that they are different parts. MSA catalog says NA is ~$200 and turbo is ~$250. I assume the turbo has a higher flow rate. I'm just guessing that the turbo one will work just fine, it will return the extra fuel to the tank. Laterz, -Hugh
  24. Hey SP, You can easily drill holes in the frame (just in front of the radiator) to re-locate the horn mounts for the horns. Also, I've heard that you can use a front grill from a chevy astro (turned upside-down) if you like a "full grill" from a boneyard. ...HTH Cheers, -Hugh
  25. Hmmm...that still shouldn't happen. Check to make sure your coolant is a 70/30 mix of coolant/water. Also, you can go to a hotter (or colder?) thermostat. It seems to me that if those fans aren't pushing the same amount of air, one would be a restriction to the other. Maybe someone with more experience will chime in...
