  1. Video data recorders are a good thing I reckon, at least for circuit work. Rather than looking at a lot of squiggly lines you can actually see how you and the car are performing all round the circuit. Like here eg the GTST Skyline there is pulling up to 1.3 G in the slower corners on semis.
  2. Yeh the sunlight kills them and makes them hard too. But given the carcase fabric is protected by the rubber from direct exposure it seems a bit disturbing that there would be an outright failure. In say less than ten years at the very least.
  3. Seeing that the Z31 has similar suspension to the S130 looky here http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=156191
  4. Well we should not take ourselves too seriously but the self depreciating thing can go too far, become a habit. Which may not be good for our self image. Then again wearing silly things can be a way of overcoming self consciousness in public I suppose, aaah life can be complicated sometimes
  5. Yeh one G seems to be a sort of average, at least at relatively lower race speeds, guess at high speed aero would come into it quite a bit. I just think that being able to record this info would help with improving lap times, both from car setup and driver input.
  6. Anyone used one of these Kat Matrix gadgets? http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=KAT-MATRIX&cat=CON Just wondering if there is a memory playback, so you can review the data after a run. I'll probably get one anyway and use the incar video camera to record the data on screen, its an alternative to getting a Vbox video data logger which is a touch more expensive, just a touch Finally, does anyone have circuit cornering G force figures for their Z, preferably on semi slicks?
  7. So you are looking for things like the center of gravity, weight distribution, roll centers etc. To my imperfect knowledge that info has never been published by Nissan on the S30, they did say that the C of G of a S130 was around where the shift lever comes out of the gearbox. Good luck, someone somewhere would have that info.
  8. Check the colour of the sensor's plastic pinion, different colours for different teeth numbers. Fairly sure that the NA and TT have different # of teeth.
  9. On those tyres I'm not sure what the 36/30 means, F/R, hot/cold, but anyway that type of tyre typically works best around 40 PSI hot. If they are underinflated then they will feel greasy and there will be a big difference between cold and hot readings. If the car is a daily then the pressures can be dropped off track, another good thing is they should start to squeal when approaching the limits of adhesion, a handy warning
  10. Hanging out with Alan Bond? For the USA'ers, AB had a spectacular corporate rise and fall in Western Australia a few years ago. Legal proceedings followed..........
  11. Depending on the circuit, even sports street tyres like Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1, Kumho Exsta XS and so on may be adequate for some drivers, those who are not chasing top times but just want to have fun and go fast enough to get the juices pumping. Such tyres will usually squeal too when getting close to their limit, quite handy that.
  12. Yeh, realising your strengths and limitations is always useful on a race track which means that the hot Hoosiers are not for me So something that is consistent over a reasonable life span, Kumho seem to fill that requirement.
  13. What actually happens is that a sudden application of heat results in tension between the hot outer layer of the rotor and the cooler inner. Resulting in cracks. To avoid this warm the brakes up before doing heavy applications, works every time. Including with Xdrilled rotors that are often blamed when it is driver error.
  14. its a good site that, note info on the front strut suspension as well. Understand and follow what he says and you can't go far wrong.
  15. Google 'universal fender flares' found this site http://www.yourhotcar.com/product/list/VW/Beetle/Body_Kits_&_Conversions/Fender_Flares/ I am probably going to use soft extensions to the standard guards, Pacer Flexy is one brand.
  16. Thanks all for the advice, its just a pity that the RA1's are no longer available although apparently the new Toyo R888's have not been well received in the US so who knows?
  17. For circuit time attack, one warm up lap followed by five hot laps at the most in avatar car. Must be my driving style but I regularly have trouble getting semi slicks up to temp, the ones that worked best were Toyo RA1's but they are no longer available. So to anyone who has used Hoosiers, your opinion plus a brief description of what circumstances they have been used in. Its my understanding that the A6 is what we would call a hillclimb tyre, no warm up required which indicates two circuit laps at most. But????? And if you have time to waste here is a sample of the application
  18. There is no doubt that some early post WW2 Japanese car styling was heavily US influenced, the Mustang look Celica being perhaps the most obvious example of all. But the Jaguar E type influence on the 240Z styling escapes me, except in a very general way. In fact to me the 240Z is about as individually styled as is possible, where there are other similarly configured cars in the market at around the same time. Similarly, the Z32 was quite distinctive, after that, well.............
  19. The book How to Hotrod & Race Your Datsun has mod info on the 510 rear suspension, once race mod back in the day was to make the semi trailing arm inner pivot point adjustable. Which looks like what those gadgets in post #17 are for. The sweep angle of the arm can also be changed, I recall reading about that on a BMW site. As Frank says, BMW is a good one to copy given their race history.
  20. Bring it back to something like it was new, unless its a serious track car no mods needed. You have to understand that this is a S30 centric forum, to give credit the S30 suspension ages a lot better than the S130's. Check the yellow 280ZX out in this video @ six minutes on, camera car has about three times the power, 280ZX goes good on stock spec suspension, I was down at the drop down left hander after the bridge observing
  21. Your signature says VG30DET but that looks like a VG30DE or DETT motor. Reason I mention that is I'm in a middle of doing a single rear entry plenum for a VG30DET, your arrangement would be too high for my application. Anyway, hope it all goes to plan, good luck
  22. Yeh I usually use Z instead of Zed so as not to confuse those Americans............errrr, what? This is an a US based forum? ........... : On the Skyrine, they were just a family sedan or coupe here until the R32 I think it was appeared. From then on they started to take over the performance image of the Z, particularly with the mod and race boys.
  23. Re the 280ZX, its a mystery to me why there is basically no rear suspension mod info around at all. Semi trailing arm suspension, info on the 510 and the relevant BMW's, yes. And it can be made to work very well, regulars here will be sick of this video johnc may be able to fix you up with parts and advice though, I can't, my suspension is not OE semi trailing arm.
