  1. That applies to most Western countries, its a good reason why countries with less regulation can make things cheaper and still get the benefit of being classed as 'developing'. The West is simply regulating its collective self out of business.
  2. Whoo, its going ahead, have bought a 33 motor out of a El Grand (sp?) which is some sort of JDM AWD luxury station wagon/SUV thing. Supposed to have done ~106000 KM, looks very clean, should arrive Friday. I'm very content with the decision to go with a VG33, people say get a VQ or a Nissan V8, much better engine, four valves, aluminium block and so on but pffft. Why? Because the 33 will fit in with no sump clearance problems, all the aftermarket stuff I want is available at reasonable prices, the blocks can be bored out for more capacity - none of this open deck nonsense, the 33 is significantly lighter than a L28 so I'd assume similar with any RB motor, with the mods I have in mind the 33 will reliably produce all the power I need and I can happily work on it myself. I am mystified why the 33 has not received a lot more attention, perhaps it has but not on the intrawebs. Anyway, I'm looking forward to this, but no hurry, probably won't be finished until late in the year. Which is no problem because the VG30DET is going well at last.
  3. The MSA ones look to be more versatile to me, actually I made some like that for the S30 back in the day.
  4. If you live in a snow area aren't the houses supposed to have steep roofs so the snow can slide down? Anyway, pleased to see the S30 safe and warm this time, may have to report the Z31 abuse though
  5. There is some decent modern stuff around but most of it is not promoted like the 14 year old stuff is. Have a listen to these, see what you think. Bertie Blackman, give this one a chance to get wound up Then there is Sia Furler, two clips of her doing the same song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzjmx63TqiU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dkhwerFi44
  6. Concerning plenum volume, there is no right formula. The primary concern is to design the plenum so as to achieve even flow to all cylinders, everything else follows. All extra volume does is to provide a buffer which may help even out flow and delay throttle response. A plenum could be made using a reverse collector design, it would work fine with very little volume if correctly done. Anyway the important thing is to understand the characteristics of air flow, what I did may help http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=157316
  7. I always thought all five speeds had a reverse lockout. Have you checked if your box has one? If it does then it may be stuffed but that would be unusual.
  8. My Z is cool so selected small stickers only
  9. His navigator messed up which led to the targa crash. That is a very competitive event, you have to go for it and rely on the navigator to correctly call whats coming up. Otherwise don't bother.
  10. Suspension Ford - invented strut suspension VW beatle - first mass produced car with independant suspension all round? Triumph - first mass produced double wishbone front independant suspension?
  11. I think Kameari do/did a fully counterbalanced crank which may sort that harmonics problem, but what about the camshaft? Alternatively you may just balance and tighten everything up and drive straight through the harmonics into the higher rev range I guess.
  12. Interesting dialogue, pilot sounded the coolest man there, lets put this bitch down in the river so we can have another go
  13. So how do these Jap near 10000 RPM motors avoid breaking a crank/cam shaft? Those revs seem to me to be the key that opens up a Pandora's box of big power, even with just pump fuel. Anyway I always thought you Americans typically solved a power deficiency with a shot of NOS
  14. MoTec is one of the best but the most important thing is as always - who is going to tune it and what does he prefer? Assuming the car will be dyno tuned seeing you want the best. Link is supposed to be good, Autronic, Haltech..........
  15. The question about clarifying the type of turbocharger seems on topic to me. Otherwise the original information may mislead others. Now this post joins the four others above that don't advance the topic at all.
  16. None of those cars are going to be cheap by any standards, old school is valuable there. And be warned, the Japs are big on presentation. I imported a 280ZX, the new white two pack paint job was superb but the rust 'repairs' underneath were crap. Luckily the car was OK over all but I could not get over what that paint job would have cost in relation to the value of the car.
  17. W,for crying out loud, get rid of that moon roof thing, gay, gay, gay. And are you sure clear plastic side windows are illegal for a road car? Windscreen is but.............
  18. G, I'm not great on turbos but yours does not look like a GT35R to me. 'R' designates a ball bearing don't forget.
  19. Get the TT and run it as a NA, no problem as I said already.
  20. I have a genuine JDM Bre style 280ZX spoiler, it is 1160 mm long.
  21. You may have to go to a dedicated Z32 forum for full answers, particularly re a thicker head gasket. But personally I would not lower the comp ratio on such an engine as much as you want to other than by changing the pistons. NA it will run OK on 8.5:1 pistons, maybe use a lower grade fuel? Either way it will lose a bit of performance.
  22. What do you have in mind for the engine lower clearance situation rr? As you know the block on those motors is very deep so getting front Xmember clearance so the motor will sit low in the engine bay is not simply a matter of changing the tin oil pan. Maybe the motor will sit behind the Xmember? I don't know but its something to think about, you are doing some pioneering work here, good on you.
  23. Hope he gets into the WRC and does well.
  24. If you can afford it then do it, no regrets
  25. Wondered about his orientation thing myself several times, the main reason why I would not mount a turbo other than horizontal is end thrust on the bearings courtesy of gravity. Yeh and oil draining too, if the oil can't run out them big smokey exhaust.
