  1. Many thanks guys! I appreciate all the comments and kudos. This morning I will take some time to thoroughlly clean the engine bay of the car and (cross-fingers) I might drop it into the car before lunch! Again many thanks! Regards - Yasin
  2. Well Gang...Finally complete can't believe. Its amazing how over a year can go by! I took the car off the road in late September 2006, I was going to spend a weekend and slap on a HKS head gasket, a beautifully ported P90 (non hydraulic) head by Whitehead Performance, some ARP head studs and maybe a turbo upgrade...while doing so I freaking dropped a dowel into the motor and I yanked the entire engine out...and proceeded on the most expensive and comprehensive engine rebuild I have ever undertaken. The engine was then fully rebuilt with the following specs: JE 8.0:1 Forged Pistons 240Z 9mm rods shotpeened and individually balanced LD28 crank HKS Metal Head Gasket Ceramic coated the piston domes and skirts Ceramic coated the combustioon chambers of the head Ceramic coated the exhaust ports of the head Diamond Like Coating (DLC) on the wirst pins Web Turbo Grind Cam Speed Shop Thagard T3/T4 Turbo Ceramic Coated SFP exhaust Header TiAL 35mm Wastegate JeffP 3in Downpipe ARP Head Studs, ARP Studded Bottom End & ARP Rod Bolts Custom Made "1-Off" Intake Manifold BMW 67mm Throttle Body Huge Oil Cooler Custom Made "1-Off" Corky Bell Intercooler Haltech E6K Engine Management JSK fuel rail with 550cc RC injectors Aeromotive FPR Braided lines and lots and lots of Earls fittings Autometer gauges - Boost, Oil Temp, Oil Press, Engine Temp, EGT & AEM Wideband ACT 240mm 4 puck Clutch Arizona Z car Aluminum radiator Arizona Z Car 240mm 13lb Flywheel Some of these parts were sourced from HybridZ members and I thank all who I bought these items from. The cost of the build (everything listed above) without the fully rebuilt T5 ($750) which I also did during this time was well over $10K - scarry I know! But it added up quickly and I don't buy crap parts and over the coarse of a year it makes it "bearable"...I could have probably RB26'd my car for the same $$. Let's just say the slope was VERY slippery once you embarked!! I did hit a brick wall in terms of motivation to finish the project during this past summer, and I had no interest to even look at the car much less finishing it. I kept thinking why did I pull the engine out of a perfectly running car to rebuild it! Anyway people like Greg Whitehead (Whitehead Performance), Jeff Priddy (JeffP), Paul R (Braap), John Kurzhals (jgkurz), TimZ, BigPhil, Helix, Justin (280ZForce), Garett, Ivo, Z-Gad, Austin (240Hoke), 1 Fast Z, Wigen-OutS30, to name a few re-motivated me to keep trucking, the posts, pics and videos were always inspiring (heck even the HybridZ Z on Pinks was motivating!). I also learnt alot during this time from your own experiences - so thanks to all & this website too! The last few weeks I have been working almost every night, an hour here and an hour there as time permitted and the engine is now completely assembled and ready to drop into the car. I am going to do my initial break in at low boost with the stock EFI then remove it and install my Haltech, that way there are less bugs to trouble shoot in case there is a hiccup with starting or running (as the car ran flawlessly before the motor was pulled). My hope is to make an easy 400-425whp on pump gas. I'll keep you all posted. I will probably drop the engine in the next week or so (its that time thing again!), as then start mocking up my intercooler, piping and oil cooler (more pics on that when done). I spent alot of time and money on details little things that are sometimes overlooked such as: 1) All the ceramic coating on the pistons, head, conbustion chambers 2) Making a mount to support the SFP manifold and heavy turbo to prevent avoid cracking and warping 3) Studding the entire manifold 4) Cleanliness and attention to detail - polish, paint, plate or powercoat, I even bought all new hardware including a brand new dipstick from Nissan...LOL! Well here are the pics gang: Regards - Yasin
  3. Pretty cool. If you go to any track here in the U.S or Canada - Limerock, Buttonwillow, Mosport there will be S30s thats sound like this and have the same power levels. A rare car for Europe though. Yasin
  4. John - Fantastic and crazily inspiring....you have been one of the force drivers to get off my rump and get my L28ET build finished....I got some pics coming today for you! Yasin
  5. Sadly that is typical of a Canadian Z that has not been maintained. The condition is not surprising. Someone spent some $$$ on it at some point in its life. If someone wanted a long term project and was very handy with body work and a welder - I say go for it! These cars are pretty rare in Canada now. Where excatly is this car located? Regrds - Yasin BTW: Dat280Z amazing restoration on your 280Z! Great website too.
  6. Glad you found the culprit...20thou is alot of warpage..so something must happened in its previous life. I say port it! Ported L heads = Big Powa! Good luck and hope you get it back and on and running again soon. Regards - Yasin
  7. That's just it....play on words...parody to the full extent...wink. Yasin
  8. Any pics you can share...sounds pretty serious with the "choice" parts. What was your former user name? Yasin
  9. There are quite a few JDm Engine Importers in Texas and California...why buy from someone in Montreal, shipping to you would be VERY high, plus importation taxes, duties and assoc. fees from Canada to the U.S The only way to buy a used JDM engine is to be there, inspect it and most times they can hook a battery and starter up to it, crank it and do a quick compression test for you. I did this a few years ago, I got a beautiful engine from Japan, and even before I installed it, I went a little further and put new Crank bearings on it. Piece of mind is worth it! Regards - Yasin
  10. Daniel - I will look it up, I still have the bag on my workbench somewhere and will post it. Regards - Yasin
  11. Bo - Did you have your engine rebuilt before you did your Wolf EFI conversion? A warped head would only be caused by experiencing high Cyl. Head Temps? It would be interesting to see what your machinist has to say...Did you try running a feller gauge on the head with the head resting on a piece of glass or perfectly flat plate steel? Sorry to hear...sucks! Regards - Yasin
  12. I would be willing to buy two! If you are going ahead please let me know, I am very serious. Regards - Yasin slownrusty@yahoo.com
  13. Wish you had a video or pics to share...what would be wicked!! Yasin
  14. The guys has Three posts on that Audi Forum...its a stupid joke...he uses Honda references to further enhance the joke. I don't buy it. Nice try... Yasin
  15. It was cool when the girls laughed with them. Some of them were ready to rumble though..LOL Yasin
  16. I used to drive my 280ZX Turbo everyday even through the Colorado snow and ice! I did this for a few years and decided it was too nice, so I bought an AMG Benz to do that..LOL! I recently picked up a '78 280Z, which I drove everyday for a few weeks this summer. The fumes are a big problem for sure, I will definitely look into the rear tail light seals and I have few mother nature inspired holes to address on the car's underside. The car will be under construction for a while! Yasin
  17. I'm a Civil Engineer with a PE. In my last year on University I took a few Mech classes to "broaden" my degree and also because I have a good aptitude in this area. Yasin
  18. That looks great! I need to do that to my rusty Z...thanks for posting that. Yasin
  19. To say "I am humbled" is an absolute understatement...speechless.
  20. I was worried when I read "carnage" in your Title...VERY happy it was drive shaft and nothing else! Yasin
  21. Well I saved this car from the crusher this spring. I still gave the owner a few hundred for it. It was left outside in the Forest for 13years including sitting through some nasty winters. It refused to start, but it instantly registered great oil pressure. I ended-up bypassing the tank buying a new fuel pump and connecting a hose into a Jerry Can and VR-OOOM she fired up... Yasin
  22. Gang - I am looking for a 280ZX Driveshaft (B-W 5Speed). If you have a spare one laying around please PM or email me. Thanks & Regards - Yasin slownrusty@yahoo.com
  23. +1. That UK Civic is stunning too. Yasin
  24. Plus Peter Klug is a complete utter ignorant, arrogant A-Hole!
  25. Great info! Many thanks to you Paul and Joe. Yaisn
