  1. My builder said the Datsun torque values are dry values. If you lubricate then you adjust the values. I do not know where Jon is getting his info from.
  2. I have a mikuni manifold that I measured the carb end. Center to center is as follows. 90mm - 112mm - 90mm - 112mm - 90mm (Using the Ron Tyler drawing as reference) Hope this helps.
  3. Here are 3 Z photos that I shot in the 1970's. I do not think I have ever posted them before. I did give them to Carl Beck a while back. They are photos of the sole remaining #3 BRE car from that time period. The track is Blackhawk Farms Raceway. Now for a rare look into the past!
  4. A few photos I got from Datsun when I worked at a Dealership. A couple from the Net and a couple of my own shots years ago.
  5. I was at the Runoffs in 1972 at took these Group44 pics. I was learning how to use a old school 35mm camera. This car now resides in Jacksonville, Fla.

  8. My dream is a UK Ford Cosworth V8 Formula 1 motor sitting in my 240Z engine bay with a 6 speed gearbox. Yes!

  10. Dr. Hunt, I want to photo hunt a BigFoot someday. I think I want to hire you to cover my back! LOL
  11. I never knew ther were any Oryx in North America except zoos. Beautiful. Come up here to WI and help clean out the 1.6 million estimated deer please. I have to dodge them all the time while driving.
  12. You are kidding right? $8K starting bid? I would say $800 tops to start maybe lower.
  13. Beautiful car. Now get those springs cut!!
  14. SLOB in the pink bottle mfr. by CD-2 data from BITOG. Parameter: VOA Data (Manufacturer's data) Zinc: 4898 ppm (4700) Phosphorus: 4921 ppm (4300) Calcium: 4279 ppm (7800) Moly: 0 ppm (0) Vis @100C: 29.5 cSt (28) Got mine at Big Lots on sale for $1 per bottle. Going back to clear out some more off the shelf!
  15. There is one more issue that I have on mine that affects clutch operation. I noticed that the clutch pin has wear but worse is that the hole in the clutch pedal is somewhat elongated.
  16. I feel your pain. I wonder if we have the same no name illness. Doc. says all tests look OK. I feel like I have Gulf War Syndrome except that I was never in the Gulf. Closest I was is north Africa. I have been dealing with it even longer than you. Do not get as much done as I did thats for sure.
  17. I have had my clutch master fluid look like that as well with poor shifting. Plus I have seen it on other Datsuns. Seems to be common but I don't know why. The brake masters do not seem to get that dirty. Perhaps because they get more attention? Anyway I flush mine every spring now when it goes back on the road. Also got a braided line for the slave cyl. installed this year. Have not had any more problems.
  18. Glad I read this. I always wondered what the hell a DSM was.
  19. FYI. Back when I worked for a Datsun dealer the heads were only re-torqued when the customer brought the new car back for its 1,000 mile inspection. The break-in oil was changed at that time also.
  20. Are you using cheapo dino oil for ring break in? You should be.
  21. As a follow up to my comments, I removed the holly fuel pressure regulator. I took the guage off it and put a hose fitting on the guage. I wanted to see what I was getting at the furthest carb.,so I removed the hose at carb and inserted and clamped the guage on it. When I turned the pump on I get exactly 3-1/4 psi. Interesting because the pump says 4 - 5 psi. So on mine the regulator is in the tool box as it is not needed. It seems that the holly fpr and guage set up is not reliable for accurate readings. At least on mine. Your best bet is to actually check psi at carbs!
  22. Sounds like the valvetrain area to me. You need to pull that valve cover and look again at cam and rocker arms. I really think it might be the timing chain. Something must have broken in the front cover.
  23. That Kirkham Cobra that Chelle posted belongs to former Datsun SCCA racer and national champion Morris Clement. The aluminum bodies I believe are made in Poland by former aircraft craftsman. Morris used to have a gutted out green 240Z he would bring to to Blackhawk Farms Raceway in South Beloit, IL. Six of us 240 drivers from WI would drive down to BFR to run aganist the IL Z group. Morris was always the one to beat but we never could. We had a lot of fun in those days.
