  1. A FYI note. When Racer Brown ground my cam it was made to be used with the Chevy Luv rocker arms only. He talked me into it at the time but I no longer remember the details. I thought he reground my own cam but Jon M says he did not do that. I cannot find my origional cam so its hard to say if it is indeed a new cam or my own. Too much time has passed. The main point is if you were to find an old RB cam, there are no markings to say it was ground for either Nissan rocker arms or Luv truck rocker arms.
  2. Gee, I never new he passed away. Although I guess it was between 25 and 30 years ago I talked to him. madkaw, I see yours is a SS-55-110 grind. The one I purchased is a SS-54-110. It has a .480 lift and 236deg duration. I have info on his SS-52-110 and his SS-53-110 grinds but nothing on a SS-55-110. The other number on your cam is what Racer called the cam number. I am guessing he assigned each cam that went out the door with a number. Perhaps it was the workorder number or a way to catalog the work for reference. Racer Brown himself drove a Salt Flats 240Z in class F/GT in the 70's and held that record for awhile.
  3. Yes, they are DOT legal. I have a like new pair that I took out of mine. They are the Ralley Cross version. I will be selling them. They are black and have the wraparound shoulder harness as I have a rollbar. I purchased them new. PM me if you are interested.
  4. I used a small turbo muffler called a Turbo II for a similar application. Its about 2/3 the size of a regular Turbo muffler. Nice size for a small car. Plenty quiet for a 2.3 engine. I purchased it at local Fleet Farm for $19.95. I thought it was a Thrush but do not see it listed. Did they get bought out buy someone?
  5. I have had to cut all 3 different brands of aftermarket lowering springs that I have put on my 72. Just to get the car to sit correctly as none of them lowered the car enough for my liking. They were just barely lower than stock when installed and the front sat too high. Another method of cutting I used last time was I put a cutting abrasive disc on my Dremel tool. It worked great and was faster than the hacksaw. Just a tip if you do not have the larger power cutting tools.
  6. Ditto... What Mike Kelley said. Steve. USAF veteran. And I would do it again.
  7. If you want an origional color and the best value, I would go with the origional dark green the car came from the factory with. It is my favorite color of the origionals. And 240's this color are rare. Because of that fact I guess you could say its not a popular color. But its the correct color.
  8. I worked at a Datsun Dealership. Back in 1978 we sold these factory covers for $160 a pair. Was considered expensive at the time.
  9. Just a thought. For a while I ran a Smiths voltmeter by taking the guts out of my clock housing and installing the voltmeter. It was a Triumph voltmeter that I already had. I think it may have been 2-1/16 inch. I then put the clock housing back in its hole. It looked great.
  10. Jon. I took these two photos in June of this year. This is a EP 240Z from Colorado. It has a jack point on the roll cage as you can see. I do not see a hole in the door from this picture and I cannot remember if it did. It would seem that it did.
  11. I had the same problem also on my 240. Finally pulled the radiator and took it to a radiator shop. They did flow test and said it was 65% pluged up. In my case it had to be recored. My symptom was same, ok in town but temp guage would go way up on highway at any speed over 55mph.
  12. 30 cents a bottle? Right. If drinking water becomes scarce, you will lucky to buy it for $3.00 a bottle if you can find it at all. Just consider the population of that area of NC. Think about this. Each of the 165,000 men and women in Iraq drinks approx. 5 bottles per day according to a recent report I just read. That is 825,000 bottles of water per DAY. Probably 10 C130's flights per day worth. What is the population of that part of NC? 5 million? Think about it. How would you even get that much drinking water to where it needs to be?
  13. Should be no problem. I ran 225/60-14 on the rear and 215/60-14 on the front of my 240. The wheels were 6 1/2 inch wide. USAF Veteran
  14. I was wondering does this kit allow the use of the stock upper rubber insulator mount? If not do any of the otherkits use the stoct mount for street use?
  15. Yep. That happened to me last summer on a weekend afternoon when I took the Z out. I noticed a minivan in my rearview mirror weaving through traffic quickly. It finally got next to me and it was some guy with a big smile giving a thumbs up. Made my day and gave a wave back. I thought on the way home maybe I,ll keep her for awhile yet.
  16. I took these this past July. L&M Lola CanAm Car Rare Plymouth CanAm
  17. First I would get underneath and adjust the clutch free play. For oils I put the GM/Pennzoil Syncromesh oil in mine. It shifts like butter and have driven it all summer that way. I am having second thoughts now because it is a very thin oil. Like ATF. I think I am going to change it out to MT90 or Swepco. It goes back into storage soon so I may do this in the Spring when I take it out again.
  18. Sorry about your bad luck. I had a friend co-drive my Z at an area autocross. It was a large park lot at a technacal school. He lost it and hit a curb at an angle with the front end. I ended up with a bent wheel, bent control arm, bent t/c rod and a tweaked frame rail. I had to pay a shop to straighten the frame rail. They did an excellent job but was very expensive. Since then no one has co-driven my car. This was 25 years ago and the factory frame rails were still available but installation would have been still even more expensive. I have never seen a rear strut break. That was some hit. The wheel never broke? Hard to imagine. I did notice the strut seems to have a lot of corrosion in the spot of the break for some reason. I think fixing it is a better idea than buying a $1000 replacement. A $1000 Z car is like a box of choclates. You never know what you are going to get. I think you are going to have to get more tire on that beast too!
  19. I am not a real fan of Miatas but this Hybrid sounds sooo good and must be a blast to drive. Its not very often you hear a V8 that is in tune IMO. With gobs of cu in. and torque some just think their V8 run good.
  20. 4 SU's on an inline 6 cyl. that is. This was at the vintage races I was at. I had to photo this as I have never seen one of these before. 3 SU's yes but 4? Enjoy.
  21. My next lawn tractor. Kohler powered.
  22. I took these yesterday at the track. Both with V8's. One is a 2 wheeler and one is a 3 wheeler. How to kill yourself easier. Ha!
  23. So I am at the track this weekend and took this photo because i remembered this thread. It has a 3 cyl kubota diesel engine generator that feeds a 300 amp welder. This guy is out of Florida and travels to events for onsite welding. This is a truck bed welder that he put on wheels and is driven by a golf cart electric motor.
  24. By the way, I was in Wallyworldmart today and was looking thru an old cars for sale magazine. Cannot remember the name now. There was a finished V/R GTO roadster kit put on a 73 240 chassis for sale. It had a phone with a 909 area code listed. I figure you GTO guys know the car. You seem to have a handle on where and who owns most of them.
